I migrated to GOG already so I'm not worried.
>>
If Steam goes public I am unironically going to pirate my entire library to have drm free copies secure.
>>
i'd ask which dumbfuck would think it'd be a good idea to make it public
>>
Never buy another digital game again
Be warned private equity I will not tolerate a publicly traded Steam
>>
Buy a secondhand DSLR with cash, gut the body, and modify it into a .22 or .38 caliber electronically fired gun, build a huge thick suppressor and surround in the exterior of a lens, assume the guise of press, wait for a public event where lots of cameras and noise will be present, then use said camera gun to assassinate a politician or finance head and then abscond to the woods to shoot myself.
>>
>>735951972
pirating banned and cops raid your home immediately
>>
Why would they ever go public? Steam is an infinite money generator already.

Gabe's sons don't really care about steam, they'll probably just sell it to the highest bidder.

It's just as useful as Steam, and more people use it now more than ever.

I literally don't understand the fascination with Steam.

I don't think anyone gives a shit if Epic gets enshittified, people barely care about the free games given away anymore unless it's something big like GTA5 or RDR2.
>>
>>735952191
I know you're full of shit because Valve doesn't have a VP.

Everyone cares if Epic gets enshittified.

That's why everyone is celebrating the recent Apple lawsuit.

Start pirating everything again. Unless the fee is tiny and comes with perks like access to every game ever released on Steam. Sort of like a less shit Game Pass.

On PC "owning" games is a pretty meaningless concept since you can in effect already play nearly every game in existence for free. Steam is more or less exclusively paying for convenience. If that convenience goes away, I'll just pirate.

People care more about the good guys going bad than the already established bad guys going even badder or maybe good, in the case of Steam it's the only relevant digital storefront with a mostly squeaky clean reputation so that going to shit has a lot of people paranoid, GOG is a fine alternative but it isn't near as big of a titan as Steam.

>>
>>735953034
Maybe, it has a lot of potential but it's lacking a good amount of big and popular releases that Steam easily offers you with the addition of the sales.

Gabe doesn't actually run Steam anymore. I doubt his death will change anything
But yeah, if Steam decides to do something really shitty like you said, the whole gaming industry will just die. It won’t matter whether you pirate games or use a different launcher when people simply stop making PC games, just as it was back in the days before Steam.
Still, I don’t think it’ll happen

Valve is a privately held company. Things Valve has done without needing to kneel to investors
>Added lootboxes to all of their games
>Added paid skins to customize your steam profile with when this used to be free
>Added a cap on how many friends your account can have. The cap can be increased by spending more money on the Steam store.
>Generally ceased developing new games after 2010. Their most relevant games, DotA 2, CS2, and TF2, are demakes of previously free mods
>Removed the ability to launch a game without first updating them. If GTA:SA gets an update which does nothing except remove licensed music you're forced to eat shit.

No. I mean I'm not one of those retarded losers that bought games on Steam but obviously for those that wasted a lot of money there got more to worry about if steam becomes shit than epic. If Epic starts sucking then who cares. If fortnite dies who cares.

They can't do anything about the game that were already installed before the ban. If I see them enacting similar laws around the world, I'll buy an additional HDD/SSD and pirate about 2 TB worth of games.

They can and will install always-online requirement for all new PC's. You won't be able to use a computer without internet with their surveillance on it. And because current PC's are already designed with planned obsolesence tech, it's only a matter of time until your current PC expires. Moreover, they will institute a sociocultural psyop where you will be unpersoned if you don't have an internet connected device and constantly confirm your presence on social media. Because it must be done, to stope the Iranian terrorists.

Because regardless of how much the Jewish retards like to kvetch about it, piracy is good for good products that are sold to consumers competently at a fair price, because trying to apply copy right law to consumers was always basically just "you can't afford to contest this, barely any copyright/patent dispute ever reaches resolution because it is deliberately a total legal quagmire" legal blackmail memes, not the actual stated purpose of the law.
Piracy is only bad when it's perpetrated by corporations who have a vested and continued interest in not paying for software. I guess technically piracy could be bad for a bad product being sold incompetently at an exorbitant price, but well... lmao sucks to be them.

Then I'd play cracked versions. I don't really understand the purpose of this argument when literally all modern platforms now rely on digital downloads for games to be playable. The difference with PC vs nintendo/sony/microsoft is that it's an open platform and there are alternative methods of getting your games rather than relying on a single locked-down centralized service.

On steam, you can still play a copy of HL2 you bought in 2004. Can the same be said for digital downloads on consoles from this era? How's Halo 2 and its map pack DLCs doing on xbox? How about your wii virtual console games? How long until sony and microsoft pull server support for PS3 and 360? Can you even download anything on Wii U or 3DS anymore?

Nice schizoposting shill, too bad that shit won't happen because the elites know it's too much
Even nowadays the internet is just as wild as it used to be and many, MANY people are luddites. Piracy won't ever be controlled, if anything it has only grown more and more and every time Tendo or any of these greedy corpos tries to smash it it just bites them back in the ass

Not possible, and the Supreme Court in the US just affirmed that ISPs have no responsibility when it comes to copyright infringement, thus making it so they have literally no reason whatsoever to turn over your information on piracy.

I wonder when policy changes will actually go into effect. My ISP is run by a bunch of pissy cunts who shut my internet off and make me call them and grovel every time they get a letter about me torrenting something. In all my years I've never had an ISP that actually gives a shit like this, most others will just forward you the warnings and that's it. Now I'm allegedly on my last strike and these cocksuckers say they'll ban me if they catch me again.

Yeah man, all of that is possible because it's completely impossible for people to install new software on a hard drive or remove physical components from a PC.
We're not living in the fucking Half Life universe, the government is composed of people and people are really stupid and incompetent. Dystopias can and will exist, but it will be a lot more boring and poorly managed than you think. It is pretty much impossible for a 1000 year totalitarian government to exist; cracks will form no matter what. Whether the following collapse leads to anything good is a different matter, but frankly, your ideas put way too much faith in the competence of government officials.
Try not to fall for the Hollywood propaganda, letter agents are much dumber than people realize and the government is not hiding any superweapons because they'd want to show them off. The government does lie and deceive, but people typically know what's really going on because individuals leak information or people just talk about things they weren't supposed to. You're assuming that regular people aren't as competent as they are, and the government is more competent than it is. Like it or not, you think this way because you've been propagandized into doing so.

I'd probably pay whatever. Everybody has a different valuation of things. For example I have 20k hours in Dota 2, if they asked me for 50 euro a month to play the exact game I play right now (I.e. I am the only one to pay the money and the playerbase is the exact same) I'd pay it. Idk what my limit on that would be, probably above 100 euro.
