>everyone tells me that the gameplay of Drakengard is shit
>play it
>it's fun

not just the air combat but the ground combat too. It's simple but in a way a decent beat em up is where positioning is important. I'm having more fun with it than with most modern 'suck to target' action games.

I stopped playing after reaching some forest ruins because my emulator broke and I couldnt switch weapons, which pissed me off.
But at least up until that point fighting was kinda boring, it was quite easy to stunlock groups of enemies
>>
Idk if I had an early copy with broken enemy AI or something but it was literally impossible to lose when I played it. The enemies simply did not attack.
>>
You liking it doesn't make it good.
It's shallow, spammy, and feels like a turd

For the first 30min maybe
>>

It's alright at times but shit like replaying a level over and over trying to get a new sword is miserable. Drakengard is not fun enough to justify that.

was expecting something similar, like just a jankier Warriors game, but enemies are actually decently aggressive a couple levels in. You can still mow down dozens of them but they will land a few hits in if you are not careful and that shit adds up. Bunch of enemies are also blocking/counter attacking and doing ranged attacks. Also switching between dragon and ground combat makes trying to finish levels fast really fun.

not saying there isn't a level of jank that I wish wasn't there (like how you can't move the camera freely or dodge in all directions) but it's not a dealbreaker

I'm like 7 hours in and still having fun. I would argue the first 30mins were less exciting because of enemy and weapon variety and lack of dragon.

I know ending E requires stupid amount of grinding where I can see the gameplay overstaying it's welcome, but so far it had a pretty good pacing. I will probably finish it until ending D and then just get a 100% save file for ending E.

You may have shit taste OP, but I get it
I played it a couple years ago and I fucking loved it too
so we can have shit taste together

Only played 3 but I thought the gameplay was pretty good when it was running at more than 18fps, which wasn't that often.

You already made this thread.

I always thought it contributed to the game feeling more visceral with all the blood splattering on the camera
Kinda like Bloodborne now that I think about it

felt the same about Nier 1 when I played it a decade ago. the hyperbolic nature of internet discussion had me anticipating and fully ready for the most rancid, dogshit playing game possible. in the end it was a pretty standard affair for a low budget japanese production, albeit a bit mashy and mundane. I'd draw a direct comparison to the PS2 God of War games or Dante's Inferno in how it felt to play.
>>
It's pretty good.

2 also has better gameplay just pretend the story has no connection to the rest of the series.

having played both, I think Drakengard's combat is a lot better than OG Nier, mostly because Nier has a poor balance

enemies in Nier often have a ton of HP but also deal a lot of damage, making you having to slowly chip away their health (or just spam that spear dashing move endlessly). Nier also had this cool idea with the 3D bullet hell enemy attacks, but since you can just destroy most of these orbs with your attacks you rarely actually have to dodge them.
>>
I 100 percent the game.
The gameplay is shit.

Nah I’m dead serious.

I think people go into it expecting DMC depth or Musou spectacle and yeah, it’s not that. It’s stiff, the camera fights you, and Caim has like 3 facial expressions total. But there’s something weirdly satisfying about how weighty everything feels. Hits actually chunk health, you can herd mobs into corners, and when the AI starts mixing in archers + armored dudes it stops being total autopilot.

It’s jank, but it’s focused jank. The game knows it wants you mowing down armies as a lunatic on a dragon and it commits. I’d rather play that than another overdesigned character action game where half the mechanics don’t matter because you can just lock-on + dodge-cancel forever.

Call it Stockholm syndrome if you want but I'm enjoying the ride.

Drakengard's reputation for bad gameplay has outgrown the game itself. The air combat is fun and the ground combat is at minimum serviceable. I don't think enough people remember how utter dogshit games could play with how accessible good games are now.

Too bad it controls like shit and the missions are the exact opposite of fun

FACT: Drakengard 2 despite having generic JRPG music has a great OST.

2 had some great stuff in general, just a shame it was lacking in that insanity that made 1 so special.
