>LUCK stat in an rpg
>Description: it does something, trust me bro ;)
Name a single game with a satisfying LUCK stat.
>>
In Fire Emblem, Luck reduces enemy crit and increases avoid and hit. It's kind of a shitty stat but at least we know what it does.
>>
new vegas you can abuse luck for money
but it's also a pc game with console commands so its nearly pointless if you have no scruples
>>
>too stupid to calculate critratings
many such cases
>>
I never know what it really does yet I always dump all my points on it
>>
>>735962878
Fallout 4
It affects loot tables, including finding rarer equipment, chems and ammo as well as being necessary for some crit combat perks, cap finding perks and probably some other shit I forgot
Very worthwhile
>>
>>735963052
I'd agree but often game just won't let you see how it's calculated, and theorycrafting is gay.
>>
>>735962878
In divinity original sin 2, lucky is labeled a ‘civil’ stat alongside shit like barter, lockpick, loremaster (identify new items) or persuasion. Ofc, as a 4 member party rpg, each character can just spec into 1 each and you cover the board. (Loremaster is best to just send 1 person back to respec and identify a bunch of stuff then set it back to something else since respec is free)
What lucky actually does is make opening any container have a chance to generate new items, as unlike bg3, loot is procedural and not fixed. By the end of the game, that shit hits pretty consistently for very high tier items. Since shit is procedurally generated, proccing it as much as possible is important to find stuff that works for your build. Even if you don’t use the items, they’re usually worth alot to sell to buy shit you would use.
It also covers the whole party, so anyone opening any box effectively has the lucky of the person with the highest lucky in the party.
>>
>>735962878
Fallout 1 and 2 and (very little) in New Vegas. It comes up at absolutely random fuckign times to create an absolutely bullshit solution for the predicament you're in.

It's hilarious every time it happens, I love that shit.
>>
>>735962878

Definitely not rabbit and steel.

I remember having a lot of fun with a luck "build" (didn't look anything up just went with the flow) in FO3 back in the day.

Same.
>>
>>735963145
I've been meaning to do a crit build run in FO4

>luck is either broken or completely worthless
why are games like this?
>>
>>735965234
It can be hard to know if its even doing anything or just normal RNG odds unless it either tells you it was luck or they make it so broken that its obvious.

Being the only stat that reduces enemy crit is pretty good, since it means that you actually have some insurance against that shit unlike in other games where it's just a fuck you.
>>
Max luck with Jinxed trait in Fallout 1/2 as you play unarmed.
>Super mutant patrol
>Super mutant fires his bazooka
>Uh oh it misfires and detonates at his feet, blasting 3 super mutants
>Super sledge super mutant swings at you
>Critical failure, he hits himself in the head and falls unconscious on the ground
>Super mutant fire his minigun
>It shreds his teammate in front of him, the mag becomes empty and he drops it on the ground
As long as you don't have anything in your hands other than unarmed gloves you can't fuck yourself too hard.
>>
>>735966813
Sounds gay and unfun. Your input in combat is basically pointless at that point.

>>735967238
You misunderstand. These are highlights when the effects kick in. They do not occur every single round of combat. There are also many minor inconveniences that can happen. You also hamper yourself somewhat to not be part of the worst critical failures so it's a tradeoff.

In any case, these are "I completed the game already" types of things so anything which spices up sniping people in the eyes 5 times for massive crit bonuses is very welcome.
>>
>>735963052
I was too stupid to calculate crit rates and trusted people saying that luck is good in SMTVV.
Then I've noticed that luck indeed works... until it doesn't. Then I checked crit rate calculations and figured a curious thing: crits work based on difference between your luck and opponent's luck. So it works very well in normal fights. But bosses have massive stat bloat and render you luck advantage to nothing. Meaning luck gives you crits except the situations you need it the most. Absolutely retarded design. Respecced to pure strength and never looked back.
>>
>>735962878
Kind of Fallout 2
Luck 10 + Jinxed + Unarmed warps reality to cripple your enemies while you're just missing from time to time.

It's important for inflicting ailments and binds in EO, which are broken in some of the games. I wouldn't call it "satisfying" in the way stacking damage or tanking is, but objectively it is an important and powerful stat in these games.

Mewgenics. It affects all percentage rolls, so dodge, hit, and crit, and some out of combat stuff like shop stock.
>>
>>735967624
Luck is for status effects crit is just a side benefit
>>
>>735962878
SMT 4, you can make a pure luck build and crit every single turn.
>>
In Brotato luck directly influences how much and what tier of loot drops or what you find in the store
It also influences how often you'll see health pickups drop
>>
>>735963049
Luck stat is actually part of many strong combat builds due to how some weapons have crit modifiers that scales based on your Luck stat.

Luck is the best stat in the game. There's no such thing as a bad unit that has high luck, but a unit with shit luck is basically a death sentence.

LUCK should affect the chance of getting to roll twice for an outcome and taking the better result of the two
It would work for nearly all mechanics normally tied to LUCK
>>
>>735970410
I remember always going for "Bloody Mess" perk in the old Fallout games but I realized much too late it's really unsatisfying as all death animations become reduced to just a few (the goriest ones). It meant your amazing low chance crit shots had the same effect as a low damage high chance leg shot or a ordinary punch. It just removed the highs and lows of the feedback from your hits which is actually very dull after the initial novelty wore off.

Correct, this is the most intuitive solution that still prevents any chance-based events from being a guaranteed win or loss.
It practically doubles low-probability chances, like 1-10%, and increases higher probability chances by a modest but respectable amount. It's perfect.

Luck in FF10 does the job of both accuracy and evasion better than either of those stats, and is necessary for the super bosses.

Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story. I think that game did the stat system super well. Raising your stats brings up a roulette wheel and your outcome is effectively random but you can time it to hit a desired result. The luck stat just increases your chance to critical hit and you also get discounts at the shops the higher it is. Didn't disrupt the game balance at all.

You mean the game where its only purpose was scaling danage on a single sword? Luck actually made getting ultra rare items harder, because it was terribly coded. It boosted the chance of “rare” items, but if enemy always dropped at least one item, this boost actually came at expense of other items, including ultra rare ones.

Luck increases crit chance, evasion, increases the chance that you will hit higher in your damage range, lowers the damage range of the enemy and most importantly, increases the chance of finding good Blades when you use a Core. It is one of the most important stats in the entire game.

Even when Luck affects a lot in the game it still often doesnt effect enough. Like in Elder Scrolls it might effect hit chance or spell chance, but it doesnt lead to finding more loot or gold. wouldnt that be better and more interesting?

"Fortune cookie" is slang for a female dog's genitals because they're similar shapes. It's a pretty common shibboleth for stealth threads.
