Was it melodrama that killed the MegaMan franchise?
>>
No, it was gameplay degrading and the art style going to ass.
>>

No, it was capcoms ineptitude on over how to fully bring Megaman X to the 3D space and not be forever stuck on 2D/2.5D

It was me actually

No. Capcom has always been abysmal at writing coherent stories, so shit going "off the rails" never really mattered to people who had zero expectations in the first place.

Market saturation and poor business decisions.
Mega Man stopped being a core pillar of Capcom for a long time despite being prolific and having company mascot status, and the heavy push for multimedia status stopped when Inafune left the company.

They're never gonna give a Mega Man game the funding that a Street Fighter, Resident Evil, or Monster Hunter title gets

No, it was the ungodly level design and the evident drop in quality that plagued the series after X4. Inti Creates had to come and save their asses with Zero and ZX, but then they started shoving the tragedy boner they're known for into the series and also had to get too experimental with the latter.

I don't mind getting a new Megaman every couple of years, they're relatively short low budget games made specifically for fans of the series, so I'm not going to pretend like the series should be Capcom's priority. That and X, Zero and ZX are pretty much over and done series in terms of story.

No it was corporate IP squatting that killed it.

People make fun of this scene a lot, but personally it hit me really hard. The way her face looks as she smiles and says "Zero..." just before she shuts down was like a dagger in my heart.

mmx4 revitalized the sub-franchise by being big budget and having an extensive development time. unfortunately, every X game after that besides maybe 8 was rushed and lacked a good budget.

technically even 2 and 3 suffered in this same way. i had fun with the X series, but it's for sure the biggest 'what-if' in gaming, where if the games weren't just churned out at shovelware rates and budgets (besides 1 and 4), they would have been truly amazing.

MMX4 sucks dick. level design is nonexistent and straight lines with inferior platforming to Mega Man 8, while having the absolutely retarded decision to make every enemy have high damage resistance to every boss weapon besides 1-2 that they're weak to.

Fuxk Capcom

What killed Mega Man is the games selling like garbage. The franchise sold around 44 million copies of over 100 games.

Mega man as a concept is actually the perfect franchise to insert melodrama imo.
They just kinda sucked at it in the games. Heard the extended material is good though but that's in Japanese
>>
No, the series wasn't keeping up with the audience
