You unlock every expansion at once and can technically play whichever one seems interesting, but doing so will totally break the story and make no sense. Its dishonest and just ends up feeling kind of broken and lazy.

I get where you're coming from though, I've been playing fairly casually for about half a year and mainly just do story and some raiding. I don't want to skip story or spend much time in WvW though, so I don't have access to things like Spear or the cross spec weapons. I'm in early EoD at the moment, but haven't really played much recently.

>>736019135I think the point of GW2 is that you don't have to interact with the grinding if you just want to do the challenging boss fights. Legendary gear is identical to Ascended stat-wise, and you very quickly build a set of Ascended gear when you start getting into raids and strikes just from the boss currency. It's the kind of MMO that you can play around 5 hours a week and make good progress on boss encounters, even if you haven't played in years.
