Makes me wonder if they got incentivized by nvidia to kneecap the non-PT graphics or if they are just saving money on development.

Well nvidia does have a lot deeper pockets than sony so developers are obviously going to prioritize their relationship with nvidia even if it means PS5 pro owners getting screwed over just as hard as they deserve to be.

100% cutting corners, it's always about cutting corners.

Candy companies will make their candy taste like shit just so it'll cost less to make, you think they won't make video games look and run like ass just to save some money?

With pathtracing they can achieve better graphics for significantly less effort so of course a lot of studios are going to use that.

Probably a question of time before pathtracing becomes mandatory causing it to run at 240p30 on base PS5.

You can thank Nvidia for giving the incompetent japs the tools to actually get proper lighting in their games
>>
>>736024130

The next step is probably developers using AI tools from nvidia for character models to save money (something like DLSS 5).

I checked the Tides of Annihilation nvidia trailer recently and in most cases the non-RT graphics was fairly close to full pathtracing with the main exception being missing light through a window (could be fixed before the release).

Realistically i don't think nvidia would risk it paying developers to make non-RT/PT graphics worse, no need when most devs are incompetent in addition to publishers/studious wanting to save money.

>2022
>raytracing does reflections woww! who cares it performs so bad you have to upscale the game from 540p look how good it looks
>2026
>raytracing can't do reflections anymore. actually it looks like shit too, now you need to upgrade for even worse performing PATHtracing ooooh~
What actually happened. Why can't RT in new games do what it did a couple years ago
>>
>>736025179

You can obviously do reflections without RT/PT it just takes effort to get close to the same quality and a lot of developers simply don't bother anymore (to the point where some games have no reflections at all without RT).

>i-is that a spotlight with good highlights-to-shadows ratio?!?
>NANI!! I'll slop up the RTX 6099 for this!!!

>240p30
That's being extremely optimistic, at best it'd run at 240p5fps.

every single graphicsfag game has been absolutely mediocre

I just don't give enough about that stuff, my bone to pick is hair looking like either a garbled mess of pixels or a giant blur.

Thank you for taking time away from your Celeste speed runs to post this.

Millennial and zoomer devs told you they want to make games faster and prettier through automation but you didn't bullied them enough and said fine. Now you are paying the consequences of being passive like Berlin or Paris or London white citizens that did not riot again their government 11 years ago and now live through karlegi plan 2.0 irl.
>>
>>736028294

I have a RTX 3090 so i should be fine for a few more years at least (thanks to DLSS).

The bright light shining down through the windows and the staircase from above has nothing to do with global illumination - that's direct light not indirect light simulated from GI. They are straight up bullshitting in that image.

Also why would non-realitme global illumination be a PC exclusive? You can bake non realtime GI on the lightmap. It has like 0 performance cost.
>>
>>736029879

Perhaps if sony had paid them some money they would have bothered to make a good version for the PS5 pro.
>>

Requiem was a nintendo deal.
>>
To be totally honest, modern graphics just look weird and like shit to begin with, no matter how technically advanced they are. There are few exceptions like RDR2.
>>
>>736024031
Kind of the reason I stopped with pc gaming. You are getting the bill for developmental cuts. At least on console they have a base level to target and that base level is always at set cost to the consumer. A console will never go "hey, know that pretty shit you got 2 years ago? Well you cant run that anymore in new shit, but for 800+ for just the gpu, you can!"
And then 2 years later it repeats
>>
>>736031471

They don't really optimize much for consoles either besides using lower graphic settings and delivering significantly worse framerates (typically 60fps at best).

Even the 7 year old 2080ti is still better than PS5 pro thanks to DLSS and better RT hardware.
