Will there ever be another game that captures what Dark souls 2 captured
>>736074821captured what?
>>736074903feeling that it could potentially be a good game
>>736074821Plenty of games have captured "worst of the franchise" status
>>736074903Unfair game design
>>736074821Plenty of games have captured the essence of feeling like I'm laying in a shat bed.
>>736074821I remember that, yeah it looked sick. No, that trailer and the cutscenes are unmatched. Not even Elden Ring had so much weird, incoherent, fantastical shit going on. Looks like a final fantasy game desu. Unfortunately its just not the direction things are going with Fromsoft.
>>736074903the low IQ crowd
>>736074821The giant lord boss fight is my most memorable gaming moments
>>736075289fpbp
>>736074821It would require reprogramming to accept that king's field + zelda + old school RPG was the mix that worked and not light rpg on top of a action game.
>>736074821Yeah they release mid games all the time
>>736074903Orgasms codified into one game
>>736074903shit out of my ass
>>736074821it truly boggles the mind.
>>736075543>>736075543>Not even Elden Ring had so much weird, incoherent, fantastical shit going onYeah that's called good game design, of course a dark fantasy game will use every snippet of fantasy lore and incorporate it in it's gameplay>why is there so much fantasy stuff in this dark fantasy
>>736078283>filtered by the Windmill to the skymany such cases
>>736074821No, it was like a rough gem in a burning pile of shit. We've lost the tech, the talent, the financial incentives. Imagine doing such a borderline experimental sequel in 2026. It wouldn't get past the conceptual stage. It's over. Enjoy the rollslop and your mimic summons.
>>736074821i genuinely have so many positive memories from when this releaseddisguising myself as a white phantom then backstabbing people, defending the belfry, defending my ratbros, duels on the lava bridge, pre-nerf faith builds, power-stancing gyrm greathammers because fuck youi don't care what people say, yeah the game itself is mid, but the feeling of discovery, especially in the fresh novelty of the expanded multiplayer and covenant system was second to none. you can't replicate it, people are too used to these games now and what to expectif you didn't play it at launch, your opinion on this game isn't valid - i'm sorry to say
>>736074821I made one character on dark souls 2, did everything EXCEPT the frozen outskirts because no. Pure str build using the dragon tooth club favourite bosses areSir alonneSinh slumbering dragonFume knight Ivory kingfinal verdict? It was okay.
>>736078403Ds2 itself wasn't a product of the past, it was a director taking over a failed open world after the first director left midway, too many aspects are by product of chance, two different visions clashing
>>736074821Aside from Elden ring no other souls game had the same diversity of levels, maybe Sekiro but i don't consider it a souls game, the one thing i hated in ds3 and ds1 and even demon souls is the constant spam of castles, castles and more castles
>>736079974Elden ring only had like 2 levels (3 if you count dlc)
If this came out today I would 100% believe the "story", level and map design was made by AI. Nonsensical retarded shit
>>736080086That's the point you mouth breathing retard, you play an amnesiac
>>736074903A shitty ass game
I don't really have a good reason for it but in my mind I associate the tone and world of Dark Souls 2 with Dragon's Dogma and not really the rest of the Souls series. And I don't mean this as a meme or an insult to DS2 or Dogma. There is just something about it that feels aesthetically/tonally similar between the two.
>>736080024It has 9 legacy dungeons.Stormveil, Raya Lucaria, Volcano Manor, Leyndell, Azula, Haligtree, Belurat, Shadow Keep, Enir-Ilim.And they're generally much bigger than the dungeons in the other Souls games too.Though by design a good 60% of every dungeon is optional to make replays less tedious.
>>736081534I'd also point the underground areas in Elden Ring. Unlike much of open world where you can just use Torrent to run past enemies, there's parts where it is disabled, so you actually have to deal with the enemies. And even the parts where you can use Torrent usually have you engaging with enemies, like when you light the fires in Siofra River.Yeah, it doesn't get to level of Stormveil or something, but I think those segments are pretty good, about as good or slightly better than Darkroot Garden.
>>736081534Yeah, my point was more like only 3 of those dugeons are good.
In hindsight, I think DS3 was the best souls game.Initially I thought it was a mixed bag, the gameplay was definitely better compared to the old titles, much more fluid, faster estus recovery, little stamina usage on rolls, basic things like that. But I felt that exploration wasn't as cool as in DS1 where you could descend all the way down from the ghetto to the sewers to lava land and even find weird Aztec-like temples and trees that sprout from lava deep underground.By comparison, smouldering lake felt kinda tame, with it's little lava puddles. But then I though about the cathedral of the deep, and farron keep, fucking irithyl of the boreal valley and archdragon peak. So now I'm thinking yeah, maybe it really is the best game overall.
>>736083180I like bosses in DaS3, nothing else really. Demon Prince is probably my favorite boss in souls games. DaS2 just does everything else so well. I can go in DaS2 and run any build and its fun. I generally like the more slower paced combat, but where wrong action is costly. The atmosphere and level design just give me ocarina of time vibe too.
The game might be a pile of shit but I appreciate some of the QoL changes like the more compact inventory screen, the somewhat less clunky jumping or the proper bow aiming/binoculars where a third of the screen isn't obscured by my character. The fact that Bloodborne afterwards still did that shit like DaS or even DeS is just baffling and as if no one at that studio is talking to eachother.
>>736074821Why is there a clip of Seath breaking a dragon scale in Dark Souls 1's intro?
>>736074821Therr are plenty of other rollslops, don't worry
>>736084375>rollslop>DaS2Anon...
>>736074821Well yes, Elden Ring, better know as Dark Souls 2 2.0.
>>736084432>its not rollslopI'm gonna be honest with you: I have no idea if it is. Its just that ER fanboys get pissy when they see the word.
>>736074957Crimson Desert did that very recently
>>736074903A public prolapse.
>>736083531I also preferred the slower-paced combat of DS2, where a boss like the Fume Knight was considered to be aggressive and unpredictable.DS3 started multiple annoying trends with Sister Friede and Father Ariandel, like triple-phase bosses with endless combo attacks. It's unfortunate that this become the norm in ER rather than the exception.Oddly enough my favorite boss is probably Vordt. He's not too hard to read but he can jump around a bit and keep you on your toes. He's also big enough that it's easy to see what he's gonna do. And he only gets one health bar. Just a fair and decent fight.
>>736074821have you tried Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing
>>736080086>i'm a fucking retarded schizoidYes, that comes with hating on DS2 for nonsensical reasons.
>>736074821maybe
One can only hate Shrine of Amana and similar DS2 levels because the level itself is your enemy, except this time you can't lock onto it and press two buttons until you see a health bar disappear. That's obviously bad game design. Same goes for Sen's Fortress, but at least DS1 has enough comfy backtracking to let you forget all about the few challenges that you can't track via the HUD.
DS2 was so bad I became disillusioned with video games and didn't play anything for like five years
>>736074821>Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly>>736080607The game is thrown together from repurposed and unfinished assets. The world design is so nonsensical, because it's just stitched together with corridors and elevators.>>736083180DaS3 feels like "cut content: the game", like it was missing even more content than DaS2, just in a way where it was less obvious due to the feature creep in DaS2 highlighting whatever was actually missing. On replays you just know that half of the game's content is done with by the time you get out of Undead Settlement and a good chunk of that remaining content is back where you came from in the Archives. So many areas after that point are stub areas that you can go through in 5 minutes, swamps, copypasta chalice dungeon corridors or all of the above.
I miss when enemies were slower and poise did something
>>736074821Apparently not. On my 19th or so play through and it is amazing how good this shit is. Doing a coop run. So much damn fun
DaS2 is ruined purely because all the DLC enemies have like 99% projectile resistance.
>>736074903your hitbox
>>736074821yesterday i completed a spear run in ds2, this game is so comfy
