What would it take to finally beat Street Fighter?
It would have to be some out-of-nowhere Zoomer game. Like a project based on a popular Roblox map. Or some indie hybrid like pic related. I don't see any legacy IPs resurging, because the best results you can hope for is Strive levels of popularity which doesn't come close to toppling Street Fighter (and really only got popular because early SF5 was such a blunder).

Fighting games are in terminal decline and the only way to save them is keeping the status quo going, while monetizing the shrinking playerbase even further. We're approaching gacha levels of monetization but once we surpass it and go even further, the genre will once and for all be saved.

Im convinced sf6 must feel really good at low level play and that that's its secret to success. All the stuff people often tag as issues that are unfun with the game essentially don't matter to the legion in Platinum, nobody is getting throwlooped in Plat, combos aren't optimized and really long, the oppressive level 2s aren't doing their thing, perfect parrys aren't happening. The lack of changes doesn't matter either because a balance change like increasing the whiff recovery of JP cr. mp won't matter at that level, even if there is a patch they'd never knowAt that level it must feel good to play and improve cause combos are fairly easy so people feel like they can learn and actually do them and they have really obvious stuff to focus on to improve, like simply anti airing more, and the way ranked points are means that you'll slowly progress even if you don't actually get better which will make the person feel like their work is paying off

>>736132190sf6 was my first traditional fighting game and you got it mostly spot on. i played deejay and my gameplan was basically just cr.mk into throw or cr.mk again 50/50 and s.mp s.mp into throw and then start the throw crmk 50/50 again because i didnt know how to do any combos outside of target combos even after trying to practice some for a few hours(all the ones people recommended online felt unintuitive as fuck). got a decent amount of fun in until i reached gold and my friend who got me the game started to rage when we played (he has played sf on and off since ~2010 and is unironically a bronze ryu in 6)
