What will be the point of throwing $1000+ on a piece of hardware that can exclusively only play games? Will it be the death of consoles and people will switch to low/medium PC builds?Keep in minds that consoles are all leeching money off from you in subscriptions models, you even have to pay to access online mode in games, and you can only play games of their hardware while on PC you don't have to pay shit to play online and you can do whatever you want. On PC games are also way more discounted and more frequently.
>>736110552Even a viable low/medium PC build is in that ballpark, and games on PC are infested with high level hackers/cheaters that they simply can't get rid of. Paying for online is like paying for a Costco membership, it keeps all the freaks out unlike Walmart. Most computing needs can be done on a fairly cheap laptop/phone/tablet.PS store sales are frequent, probably as frequent as Steam at this rate and are nearly identically priced.
>>736110552>that can exclusively only play gamesNot exactly. Consoles have increasingly become multimedia hubs since the PS2 & original Xbox days. Being able to play DVDs on your PS2 was a selling point.
>>736110552>What will be the point of throwing $1000+ on a piece of hardware that can exclusively only play games?Because the other option is a PC which is the same exact thing but $1000 more expensive.
>>736110552>people will switch to low/medium PC builds?Consolenormies only play games on the living room TV and couch, they can't do that with a PC
>>736111007Doesn't literally every single TV nowadays come with built in multimedia software and you don't need any external device to watch Netflix and the likes?
>>736110552its an extinct market kept alive by corporate forced marketing. ps6/xbox 720 will be the last generation
>>736110552Are they gonna at least remodel the 5 and series x like the super slim ps3? Plenty of people are still playing the ps4 to this day and discontinuing the ps4 was a bad idea, Sony lost a lot of potential sales. I'd buy a ps5 but it's just a big hunk of shit like the OG Xbox one. I like small consoles I'd rebuy a ps4 if they made a super slim.
>>736111265Who connects their TV to the internet?
>>736110552Basically every piece of tech in my house is a computer that can browse the internet, including my phone which is on me 100% of the time. There is literally zero reason for me to set up a desk and reserve a place in my home specifically for "computing" and then to further justify it by moving all my gaming setup into that specific corner on a smaller worse display just to say that I'm gaming on a computer.
People will switch to Nintendo and mobile gamesHonestly a PS4/Xbox one still holds up to this day, we don't really need to go much past them devs just need to optimise shit. There isn't a single current gen gane out atm that you can look at and say>Yeah, good luck getting that to run on the PS4/Xbox one.Fuck man, the pro model of the xbox one is unironically pretty capable in terms of its specs compared to current low/midrange PCs 4K 60? no, 1080 30? Yeah
>>736110552emm u forgot the most important part.you can play any singleplayer game FOR FREE on PC if you're smart enough...I was planning on getting PS5 Pro for GTA 6 + for running singleplayer games on highest quality since my PC is getting old.I aint paying 1K for a console tho. I will probably get used base PS5 for 400$ or less and sell it as soon as im done with GTA 6.I better upgrade my PC, and I need less than 1K.I am glad they made everything expensive it is such a no brainer choice for me now. Thank you tariffs and orange man
>>736111265Yea, but to be honest, they're usually really slow and shitty. You're better off connecting a random computer in your house to the TV and working off of that instead. Or alternatively getting a roku or something equivalent.
>>736110552I like how you pc tards think these part prices are somhow not pushing up pc prices too
>>736110552Just get a $450 Switch 2
Nothing will ever make me want to play on a pc, got a laptop I barely turn on and been away from desktops since 2015 but recent had a Deck (got it early Dec sold it by late Feb). The closest console like experience is far from it, too many issues to deal with but if that’s your thing more power to ya.

>>736110552The only point will be for retards to be parted with their money. Sony will most likely try to push some sort of "new technology" slop like that ssd that was supposed to be the fastest thing ever last time. The retards will eat it all up.

Consoles occupy an awkward niche where they're too enthusiast for streaming/mobile but too casual for PC. Casual console players will move towards mobile/streaming where they just use their general multimedia devices to game while the hardcore console players will move towards PC devices like the Steam machine.Ironically, Microsoft ended up being right with where gaming was headed with the Xbox One, they just sold it terribly and before the world was ready
>>736110552there’s room for a new competitor. Nintendo fell for the power meme too with the switch 2. no one is stopping any manufacturer from making a low end Wii-like, DS-like device you know. a $200 console cannot exist in 2026? nonsense. look at evercade. gaming doesn’t also have to be restricted to the Tv and controller format. hint hint manufacturers.
>>736121000>Ironically, Microsoft ended up being right with where gaming was headed with the Xbox One, they just sold it terribly and before the world was readyThey were so right they lost billions and almost killed their gaming brand.
>>736121015The only $200 console that'll exist in the modern era is some shitty Ouya-tier glorified Android TV box that plays phone games.
>>736120994What are you smoking? You don't replace your working console with a slim model, that's for youtubers farming "content." Slim models are for people who waited for a price drop, slims usually costing less to manufacture so provide the vehicle for Sony to drop the price and reel in more customers who wouldn't bite before. The Pros never sell in large numbers. There's a reason the PS4 Pro was never remodelled and never came in limited edition colors when the base model did, because they were still selling the original batches right up until it was discontinued. The PS5 pro sold even worse.
>>736121015>Nintendo fell for the power meme too with the switch 2Not entirely, they're still behind so it still sustainable for them unless a big extrenal factor hits.
>>736121000Microsoft was right but they didn't have enough soft power to get away with pushing it all at once. They took the hit and let Sony slowly worm their way into the same position without any backlash.
>>736117013>and people using hardware like cronus to cheatI would argue that cheating with a Cronus is the worst and most insidious form of cheating. If somebody locks onto my head from several hundred meters doing a 360, I know that person is dogshit at the game and I can leave without thinking about it too much. But if somebody uses a Cronus to control recoil exceptionally well, is that person, from my perspective, cheating? Or is he just that good? You know not knowing 100% whether or not someone cheats is sinister in a way.
>>736121000>Ironically, Microsoft ended up being right with where gaming was headed with the Xbox One, they just sold it terribly and before the world was readyThe only thing they were right about was that the majority of americans and a sizable chunk of Europe were ready and willing to go all digital. If the bone had been focussed on just that they'd have been fine. It was the weird "publishers will set the sharing terms" and always online bullshit that ruined them. There was no need for that and no clear path to increased profitability. Some idiot sold them a pup and they failed to identify it as a total waste of time. Sony never adopted the stupid parts of the bone, they just followed the money to a disgustingly digital future of subscriptions and limited ownership. They sensibly left all the crazy on the table.

Sure you can get a cheaper computer with more functionality but the graphics won't be as good.... maybe....Sony in the situation it's in hurts my heart. You know how many sleepovers I spent playing PS1 with friends? How many late nights playing ps2 games all weekend? I'm not sure the Jew in me is willing to pay $800 for a PS6 day one. My limit is probably $700. If, somehow, the PS6 launches a home console version at $600, that's an immediate purchase.
>>736122852Sony isn't going to do you guys any favors now that they're confident Xbox is dead and the PS5 convinced them that their install base are willing to be gouged a lot more than they initially thought. >>736124384It is funny because PC gaming is absolutely grossly overestimated due to people online being noisy about it. PC gaming in part isn't the biggest because good computers to play games with would typically be worth a lot more than a console. The people in the high spending markets that support gaming have had consistent access to consoles and bought them because of it, PC gaming being bloated in part from all the countries that don't get consoles who buy PCs out of necessity. This pricing is going to remove the incentive that the masses in high spending countries had to buy gaming hardware that allows them to spend money on games. But this price is still viewed as absurd for entertainment (outside of luxury bullshit and themeparks). So the masses in the countries that supported gaming just are going to drop it and PR is going to be nuked by waves of complaints about a hobby being unaffordable. The countries that have higher PC gaming rates over consoles that won't be affected by the death of consoles tend to pirate games or play very few of them. It is sort of a jumble of words, but in short, they are just going to kill the entire AAAA gaming industry because of Internet memes. So many people fail to the internet still in modern day. It is insane watching billions of dollars be wasted in such stupid ways.
>>736117581Your imagination.
>>736124356Why bother? its your money to waste poorfag
>>736124697Because I think the PS5 Pro will sell terribly at that price point. At least, I hope it does. There is a price point where consumers will simply stop consuming. For example, the fast food industry raised prices too high, too quickly during Covid, and they've been consistently losing low income customers for years. Those customers are going elsewhere and despite a renewed push for better value options by fast food companies, they're not coming back.At $900, I see the PS5 Pro selling exclusively to the $250k+ a year households. Console consumers are already becoming dominated by high income households, but the PS5 Pro will be out of reach for even most of those homes. As a result, sales of the PS5 Pro will tank. That rejection will result in a steep price cut. After reflecting on "consumer dissatisfaction", Sony will drop the price of the PS5 Pro as the PS6 launch nears, and after GTA 6's launch as come and gone, clearing out whatever remaining stock they have left. This will also influence the PS6's price point as Sony will have over a year of data showing consumers will not buy at $900. Of course, if the $900 PS5 Pro continues to sell as well as when it was $750, well, then fuck.

>>736126265>Your logic is flawed because we already have this scenario. We don't already have this scenario because the price hike doesn't take effect yet. The prices aren't yet $600/$650/$900.>The base PS5 slim is the same price as what the base PS5 was at launch and the just priced the pro even higher. They haven't budged either. PS5 Slim launched at $450. It's now $500 for the next 2 days. That's not $900. >So why would they now when the ps6 arrives? Because the PS5 Pro ends up selling poorly at $900. >This shit has already priced out lower income familes, they're long forgotten. They usually come into the market with the release of the slim and a price drop, but it never came this genThat's true. Yet sales of the PS5 have sold well. It's selling almost as well as the PS4 did, despite zero nominal price cuts and many price hikes. At this same point in the PS4's life cycle, there were a few price cuts and the PS5 is still selling almost as good as the PS4. So, consumers still bought the PS5 despite price hikes and the $750 PS5 Pro. And I think they'll continue to buy PS5s at $600.BUT, and this is the crux of my argument, at $900, I think the PS5 Pro's sales will tank relative to how it sold at $750 and that'll show that customers will not buy a console at that price point. Unless Sony wants the PS6 to launch with dismal sales numbers, they'll adjust the PS6's price to fit more in line with consumer budgets. https://www.vgchartz.com/article/467095/ps5-vs-ps4-sales-comparison-january-2026/
>>736126821PS5 Pro isn't necessarily selling poorly, as it's keeping up with PS4 Pro pace in USA despite being much more.
>>736128384The PS5 Pro HAS been selling in line with the PS4 Pro...at the $750 price point. We'll see how it does once the price is $900.

>>736110552>and are nearly identically pricedNo.
>>736128518Which will be a good measure of just how much demand they can induce at a $900 price point. The launch of GTA 6 will be the biggest entertainment launch in history and if Sony can't hit their PS5 Pro sales targets with GTA 6, it'll be a clear message that consumers simply won't buy in at that price point.
>>736110552>>736110992>and games on PC are infested with high level hackers/cheaters that they simply can't get rid of. Paying for online is like paying for a Costco membership, it keeps all the freaks out unlike Walmart.LOL

>>736110552Nintendo will never release a $1000 console. Looks like owning a Nintendo console and a toaster tier PC will be the future of gaming. All games will target low specs. Gaming is unironically saved.
>>736129654They're not going to fuck with your personal shit though if you're on console, also you can turn crossplay off to keep the hackers on the other side of the globe from god knows where from even getting close. They can straight up take control of your PC though and fuck with your personal shit. On top of aimbotting, wallhacks, etc.
>>736129658If you had any common sense you'd know that it meant multiplayer stuff, but you don't because you're an obtuse faggot.
>>736128862>>736129964literally the only games I can think of where this is an issue is with the older COD games which also have the same problems on consoles + you can just used cilents like plutonium which fixes it
>>736130097>*you can just use cilentsfug I'm going to bed
>>736130097Newer and even updated games have issues quite a bit though. You can probably find an RCE problem pretty recently for any big game on PC. I'd just rather not risk my hardware honestly. Some of those CODs are almost straight up malware on PC meanwhile on console they are perfectly fine.
>>736129582>12 year oldIs she bratty?
>>736129654
>>736116379>Most likely just a very extended generation overlapOver a third of all PSN activity is still from PS4s todayIt took almost five years for the "people who logged into their PS5 today" number to finally exceed the "people who logged into their PS4 today"
>>736110552Personally I don't care. With the Switch 2 essentially just being the Switch again but a little bit stronger and little bit bigger, I'm fine with not having any console at all this generation. I have a PC and everyone else has their phone or laptop. Nobody really plays the Switch we have anyway and nobody here is asking for a PlayStation or an Xbox either.

>>736110992>year of our lord Todd Howard of 2026>playing MP games which have patents design to make people spend more moneyI only play coop. Haven't found any issue since 2013 when I gave up on competitive MP. Having said that I believe consoles were good for normalfags and people who only play sports games. I used to recommend XSS for every poorfag who asked me about buying something to play games. I can't recommend anything now.
>>736110552sony wasn't fucking around when they said thisyou WILL be monetized
>>736110552>What will be the point of throwing $1000+ on a piece of hardware that can exclusively only play games? To avoid spending $3000 on a PC that can play the newest games.>>736110992The problem with low/mid range builds is what might be good enough this year won't be good enough next year when devs start optimizing for RDNA5.
These price discussions have made me aware that many people want to play on PC but they elect to play on console as some form "poorfag cope" or something. And thats wild to me. "At that price just get a PC." "Woah, you'd be dumb not to get a PC!". "Basedknee and Nigtenshit driving people to Steam!!".Like how in the minority am I if I game on a console because I like it, it is something I elect to do. Simple, to the point, won't do anything weird or have issues on the livingroom TV. I'm not gaming on my PS5 Pro because its a "subsidized product for poorfags" or whatever I'm doing it because I want to. Has this always been the case? No intrinsic love for the console form itself?
>>736110552>32gb ram 240>2tb nvme 300,->mobo 250,->psu 100,->good case 100,-There ya go, 1k >midrange cpu 250,->low end modern gpu 400,-1500,- for a shit pc and this is assuming you already had a pc, since if you didnt, you dont have a desk, a monitor,mk and desk chairIf you are really new to pc, you'll be looking at at least 2.5k to have a low to mid end build. This wont play any new shit in 2 years
>>736110552the next xbox will be medium/high prebeuilt. it will cost $1500 but if you want to build a pc with the same gaming performance in the release year it's gonna set you back $2500also online will be free since its a pc
>>736128943Too big to fail I'm afraid.
>>736141325This is something that is hard to grasp for lots of people here. So what if we like playing games on PS5? PC gaming sucks kind of.
>>736117581Going outside and playing tag or something
>>736122776Sony is still on the top, too much that it's become more anti consumer than ever, we need Xbox to sell for Sony to retract their bullshit
>>736110552Why are console manufacturers so stupid? Every single year they complain about how they are going bankrupt because games are too expensive to make, every year they talk about how children don't buy consoles anymore because they can't afford them and every year they make it all worse by chasing graphical fidelity that their audience doesn't even want. The best selling games look like shit.I'm now convinced they do this because they are scared that they can't compete with indie games, they need graphical fidelity to sell anything, even if their only audience is retarded top 5 % millenials who only play mobie game. even this doesn't make sense because their money comes for idiots paying to use their own Internet and platform holder fees, both would go up if they had cheaper consoles with worse hardware.
>>736141325This is almost impossible to understand because PC gaming is so fucking simple it's already almost indistinguishable from console gaming yet everything is free. Steam big picture is just a console.
>>736124518Given a decent PC and a console for the same price, the PC is definitely the better deal.
>>736144224for $500 you are gioing to be gaming on an integrated gpu. enjoy 720p 25fps

>>736145269you can get used consoles for a whole cheaper retard
>>736145393Those consoles cannot do what a computer can: run all sorts of programs, including various storefronts with their countless giveaways, and emulators for almost every past console or computer ever made.
Hybrid consoles are the future. Nintendo won
>>736145692>and emulators for almost every past console or computer ever made.you can do this on xbox already, and with hte next generation xbox u will be able to do the other 2 things u listed as well
>>736145698For portable gaming, I'd rather get some chink 'pocket emulator' system that's way cheaper.
>>736145827Whatever, I can do it all right now, with the machine I already have and cost a lot less.
Sony just sold their TV business but they're looking to the future of spatial reality displays and they're going to market it along side PS6 cause gaming is currently the only content and gaming was the catalyst for DVD and HDTV. It will eventually replace traditional displays and revolutionize cinema and entertainment but it could take another 20 years and they're afraid of another 3D TV flop
>>736145698Why are people buying Ps5s then?
>>736110552The only reason console market worked in first place is because people were too stupid to realize they could've bought a pc
>>736146982There was a time when they made sense. Check these PC prices from '96, and remeber a PlayStation cost just $200 then.
>>736146982They're too stupid to operate a PC, which won't change with the price increase
>>736110552Any value proposition consoles had has been eroded away>hardware too expensive>pay additional fees to use your own internet to play online>no disc drive unless you pay extra so you're stuck with rip off store pricing>dynamic store pricing being brought in so you might pay more for a game or DLC because an algorithm said you're an easy mark>first party controllers are cheap shit sold at a big markup>big games releases are so few and far between there's not even anything for console warriors to latch on toPeople are tuning out. Mainstream gaming is boring as fuck and overpriced in current year

>>736147831A PC that could play Everquest cost almost as much as a used car.3D graphics though, homeslice. Worth it.
They have to die, but don't need to die. All of this could've been prevented.
>>736110552>What will be the point of throwing $1000+ on a piece of hardware that can exclusively only play games? That's not going to be the case with the next xbox, it's a PC with a console UX toggle that has Steam and full windows. PS6 they'll have to lean back into exclusivity because even if they eat a loss and sell it at 699 it's not really worth it without strong support.
>>736121015>there’s room for a new competitor.LMAO. How long have you been playing games? There is no more room. Three is the maximum number. Add to that, all the devs are overtuning and underoptimizing their games. So releasing a cheaper, underpowered one will be a death sentence. It goes like thisPowerful hardware + high price>no one will trust this new console enough to buy en massePowerful, but cheap>no experienced company left big enough to eat the lossesUnderpowered and cheap:>"lol the graphics look shit! it barely runs ___">"we can't showcase our newesr FC28 in this thing"Underpowered and expensive>don't even think about it
>>736121890>always online bullshit that ruined themThey're not going fully digital without Always Online. Once the majority are digital only, the DRM begins. All these companies are just sitting, waiting, salivating for it to finally happen.
>>736118158Plex my friend. I only watch pirated stuff on my ps5
>>736122776Difference is gamers weren't addicts, enslaved by the mentally ill fanboy and social media methamphetamine prison. If a console was bad in that day, most people Noped out. Look at what happened to Sega and Nintendo. It's too late for that now. The world and the way people act are completely different. They are consuming addicts with no standards, no scruples, no dignity, as long as they can go online and be congratulated for buying the new thing. It's over, braaaah.
>>736128804whats this shit do anyway
>>736122852>getting conned into FOMOYeah, that's not Jewish, anon. If there's a "Jew" in that scenario, it's Sony. You're just the mark.
>>736123312>Depends how consumers respond to the new $600/$650/$900 price points.Sony learned all they need to do is to pull the same stunt again next year.
