When will people accept the fact that something like Sonic inherently CANNOT work as a serious story? Hard to take a story about anthropomorphic animals with one-note characterisation and goofy designs tackling world ending cataclysms seriously, unless you have the mental age of an eight year old. It lacks ANY kind of self awareness that could potentially make it endearing. I just think that if you're going to have them be the centre of these huge global conflicts you can't play it entirely straight and expect anyone to not think it's fucking retarded. It doesn't do drama well, it doesn't do self parody well, it doesn't have any charm to it. Any way you try and spin the intent of the story the writing misses the mark.It went from minimal story to extreme melodrama told with a straight face, and it's unintentionally hilarious. There's a reason we have memes like "Coldsteel the Hedgehog", it's because it's so easy to make fun of because of how bad it is. I don't know how people forget that.
