He still feels undervalued or even outright disliked by most other Jedi. He still feels he should have the power and stature to do as he pleases. Even in Revenge of the Sith, its not about the marriage being exposed but keeping her alive from some potential catastrophe he had in a dream.

Also if Anakin was going to be a Jedi, freeing Shmi would mean nothing because he can't see her again. Even a noble like Dooku, heir to an entire planet could not see his family again.

It's full retard that the jedi didn't send someone [ay for her freedom anytime in the years after, during which the clone war isn't on yet, the order is confident in training Anakin, and Padme is an important senator. Its was probably a negligible cost to the jedu and would have removed an important threat to the sanity of Anakin.
