>"survival horror">gives you an overpowered melee weapon early on so you'll never have to struggle with resources or enemies
That's why most horror games that aren't Resident Evil are dogshit, they're so obsessed with being oh spoopy that they forgot to make it an actual fun game you want to play
UNCSlop
because "survival horror" is and has always been a dogshit genre titleresident evil coined the phrase even though it should more accurately be called "action horror" and silent hill is just "horror" or "psychological horror" if you want to be fruitytaking damage from enemies and needing healing items is not some unique thing, and if that counts as "survival" then most fucking games are a "survival FPS" or a "survival RPG" or whateverBut people cling to survival horror to seem cool, even though again in practice it doesn't fit and most of the "classic" examples are actually designed first and foremost as speedrun obstacle courses where your goal is to beat the game fast enough to unlock a super weapon you probably won't even use
Silent Hill 1 is so piss easy there's nothing even slightly spooky about it. You're just tearing through the enemies with the metal pipe like they're nothing.
>>736123970Play it on hard and see if you can save enough ammo for the Incubus at the end, bitch
>>736125696Just use the pipe, it makes all regular enemies go down like they're nothing. Saving ammo is easy as shit.
>>736123970I miss just started this posting
1 and 2 are really good games in spite of their low difficulty
>>736125832They're good experiences overall, but the core gameplay is kinda mediocre.
>>736123970Who said Silent Hill is a survival horror game? Konami themselves called it "horror adventure"
>>736123970>>"survival horror"You mean the cynical marketing spin that Capcom used because they were ashamed to be making an adventure game? You could argue that all genres are ultimately just marketing, but survival horror is one of the most blatant. It's deeply embarrassing to see people who think their opinions matter using it unironically.
>>736125832The opening of 1 is actually tense for a new player, who's just learning the controls and is faced with fast dogs and flying guys. There's a reason the conventional wisdom since the NES is to introduce flying enemies in Level 3 or later.Sure, it becomes trivial as you go, but all good games do imo.
>>736125321>he can't visualize an apple
>>736123970The hammer or the pipe? I figure most zoomoids would cling to the handgun and never go for melee but oldheads would do the opposite.
>>736126558Capcom came up with the term survival horror themselves and put it on the RE1 packagingThat's why no other horror games used the term
>>736129161the hammer is absurdly op because it pushes enemies away when it connects so you can just hold down the attack button and they can never hit you. but it's fun to use regardless. the unlockable katana is an even better version of it
>>736124062SH1 is a massive improvement from RE1 in every way, and RE1 is pisseasy with absolutely braindead combat and puzzles.
silent hill is story and atmosphere focusedhorror doesn't mean you have trouble killing enemies lol
>>736129432>SH1 is a massive improvement from RE1 in every waysaid nobody ever
Zombies ate my Neighbors is true survival horror
>>736124062The SH games are fun to replay, at least once for every ending and once on hard, plus there's NG+ with secret weapons.
>>736129371And the DIno Crisis packaging says "keycard horror" but that didn't catch on.
>>736129371As far as I can gather, Survival Horror isn't a real genre, but rather a marketing buzzphrase meant to describe Resident Evil (the first one) specifically, but gaymers who don't know what words mean started using it to describe any scary game and started criticizing them based on criteria the games weren't even intending to live up to.
>>736123970Based Harry laying pipe to everything That faggot cuck from 2 could NEVER
>>736131045>Literally gets the pipe along with an extended poke attack that laughs in the face of every enemy's rangeErm, James is zased sweaty
