Gears fizzled because there was no real room for continuation. E-Day and fighting colonists are all you could really do after 3, and instead of going straight for the prequels they reinvented the locust to justify more games with characters that didn't really mesh with 1-3.Halo on the other hand had vast potential after the trilogy, there's so much you can do with that universe but instead they turned it into god knows what that people absolutely did not ask for, so while Halo is still more relevant than GoW, I think Halo flopped harder.
