>Disco Elysium but DnD

Is it actually good, tho?
>>
why would I play this when I could host a game of DnD or FUDGE with my own original setting and then have every player ghost me after the first session?
>>
I don't know dawg, you tell me.
After all you are the shill.
I won't buy it but I might pirate it since I liked Disco Elysium.

It's great. I've been having the urge to play it again even though I'd rather wait a year so it isn't as fresh in my memory. Played a str and con appleboy and I've been feeling like a dex and cha dick-ass thief getting all up ins everyone's inventories

I had a good time with it. I do appreciate that it isn't afraid to just fucking kill you if you fuck around. The Cleric being an autistic savant with a muscle woman fetish is infinitely funny to me as well. However; they should have let me bang the druid. I wanted to fuck that mushroom elf into next week, and she wanted it too.
>>
>>736127956
I don't know, I only looked it into because it's extremely impressive for a one-man project. Watching a playthrough now, and it uses the exact same dialog SFX as Disco Elysium. It's a bit uncanny.
>>
>>736128105
>one-man project
I like singular vision, but it clearly not made by single person, too ambitious in scope. Also the credits tell me that.
That's fine. I'll try it later.
Too many fucking games too play, suffering from the plague of abundance right now.
>>
This game took very weird lessons from DE. For example, the out-of-place focus on politics. Playing a DnD character obsessed with politics feels bizarre.
>>
>>736128656
It's part of The Cleric's whole job. Plus DnD games often have some sort of political intrigue as a story element, so it isn't super far-fetched. Also the central plot point revolves around The Election so it's kind of hard to ignore.
>>
>>736128754
The plot could have revolved around fucking every variety of female monster brought to Jor's Realm with your trusty goblin fluffer Snell, however

>game saves every quicksaves instead of overwriting
>end up with 50+ quicksaves and autosaves
>can't even delete them quickly as each requires a confirmation
if we need to delete the saves through the dumb appdata location, devs deserve a beating
>>
>>736129784
Nigger frog.
You will be happy once your recent save get corrupted for unknown reason.
Having 100+ saves is preferable to that.

there's the quicksave, autosave, and your main save. it's already redundant
>>
>>736129784
That's what you should be doing anyways, but also sane rpgs allow you to configure how many quick- and autosaves are allowed at any given time

You clearly didn't play enough games where save scumming is mandatory.
Pic rel. But even that game was forgiving enough to not require loading a save from 2 hours ago.
>Esc
>save game
>select state
>type the name
>enter
>oh shit you failed
>load
>select state
>*loading*
Unlimited quick saves are preferable.
Storage is non-issue, we aren't using PS2 flash cards.

The game is a text-dump experience, often relying on massive lore drops and walls of text that can make the pacing feel like a grind. This is compounded by a total lack of character animations. It’s jarring to read descriptions of intense action—such as losing a limb or taking an axe to the back—while the character models remain completely static.

Furthermore, the 2D sprites feel significantly lower in quality than the 3D environments, and the soundtrack is a letdown. Even the in-game jukebox at the "Drunk Sphinx" offered little relief, featuring tracks that felt harsh and uninspired.

The narrative struggles with "Millennial writing" tropes, often leaning on memes and gender-based humor that feels coarse rather than clever. The dynamic where the player character is a bumbling buffoon while every female NPC is hyper-competent feels tired and predictable.

The game attempts to navigate modern political mirrors, but the author’s own leanings act as the "moral compass." Instead of allowing the player to decide what is right, the game frequently punishes or belittles opposing viewpoints

The writing tackles themes of indigenous cultural loss through assimilation but fails to apply that same critical lens to other topics like immigration, creating a thematic disconnect and incosistent logic.

The script frequently misuses terms like "fascism" and "nationalism," forcing characters to argue against tropes of imperialism and genocide whenever a different perspective is raised. If you disagree with an NPC (like Dexterity), you aren't met with a counter-argument you are simply dismissed as "propagandized."

Unless you are looking for a very specific, one-sided political commentary wrapped in a static visual novel, this is a difficult one to recommend.

I want to start off by reiterating that the game itself is quite good, and I would recommend it to people—but only to those who can look past the excessive political theory and arguments constantly being thrown in your face at almost every turn. It would have been far better if the developers had created a world with its own unique political beliefs based on the fantasy setting presented. Instead, it basically mirrors real-world politics with a heavy bias toward left-leaning ideals, without properly presenting these ideologies in a neutral or thoughtful way. If you lean more right or even neutral, the game tends to make you out to be a moron, whereas supporting left-leaning ideals makes you seem like a genius.

Honestly, when I bought this game, I understood it was inspired by Disco Elysium, but the politics in that game were presented in a far more comical and neutral light, showing that all parties have both good and bad aspects. Here, however, it’s just the “dirty capitalists/fascists oppressing women and anyone wanting a fair shot.” Not to mention the recycled argument about Black oppression, where the discussion about Black gang crime is simply swapped with goblins. Nearly every character you meet also attacks you with a wall of text essentially describing their political beliefs.

Another problem I had was that the game often goes out of its way to make you seem kind of pathetic even when you succeed. For example, if you get into a fight and pass a dice roll, you still take damage regardless of success or failure. Additionally, I hated the pointlessness of acquiring weapons beyond the stat bonus. Even if you have them equipped, you always fight with your fists.

In the end, I was hoping for a Disco Elysium-inspired fantasy mystery story, but instead, I just got politics… and more politics, without a fair representation of each view.
>>
game called me a chud for picking a potted plant, this is that 'what if disco elysium but you were a tea witch and you had to find a missing cat' type game
>>
>>736130702
@grok
Summarize this for me.
>>
decent game, but feels a little lacking at the end, needs DLC and the politics in the game feels a bit forced, Communism good, capitalism bad, conservatives are fascist.
>>
It's just a bit jarring to have a medieval fantasy DND like game but everyone randomly starts talking about their world's version of commies. IMO it would have been way better if they cut that out and just made it a normal fantasy game.
>>
This is the game where the wisdom stat represents communism. That should tell you everything you need to know about its political leanings.
>>
>>736130836
That's what Disco Elysium did, and everyone loved it. Like it or not this is the new meta. Allegory is dead.
>>
>Nationalism & Socialism is the key to overcoming foreign financiers
Kinda based tbqh desu
>>
I wish this game was just about adventuring and had zero political shit. The dungeon crawling choose-your-own adventure stuff was fun. The walls of political text was not.
>>
>>736130702
>If you lean more right or even neutral, the game tends to make you out to be a moron, whereas supporting left-leaning ideals makes you seem like a genius
What?
The socialist party is regarded as idealist retards by everyone else while the others are more fuck you got mine corrupt.
Certainly doesn't help that one of the biggest voices of the green is wisdom.
>>
>>736130780
>needs DLC
It needs a final act. The game is incomplete.
>>
>>736131145

Any game exactly like that?

On another note I've started playing Curse of the Golden Idol and I am-dare I say it- having a blase.

That's not like Esoteric Ebb. THAT'S NOT LIKE ESOTERIC EBB AT ALL. IT'S MORE LIKE RETURN OF THE OBRA DINN JUST WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TRYING TO PULL HERE ANONYMOUS ARE YOU ONE OF THEM LIBTARDS. THE DEMONRATS. THE DARK BRANDONS. THE COMMIES. THE PINKOS

>The game is a text-dump experience, often relying on massive lore drops and walls of text
90% of the lore is dropped in the optional "click to learn" during dialogue. If you don't care enough to read the lore just skip it.

Not mine. Mine's apolitical just so you know
>>
>>736130973
And the Intelligence stat represents taking over the government yourself as the absolute wizard king. Could the developer be a magocrat?
>>
>>736127823
I like it so far but I've been slow in finishing it. Partially because I think I may have screwed myself over putting all my points into both wisdom and intelligence instead of something more physical, and partly because I'm beginning to realize that they'll let me flirt with orcs, bugbears, and a literal sphynx, but not gobbos or tieflings.
>>
>>736127823
Yeah, it's a bit verbose without any narrative voice and the infamous text within text is a bit crazy on lore dumping the NOT!DnD setting, but it's fun, earnest, and actually tries to engage meaningfully with the writing
>>
>one of the pros for charisma is that you can charm girls

Yeah, my only nitpick so far is that I feel like every dialogue has sent me down a lore book rabbit hole of fantasy terms and places which leads to them referencing other fantasy terms and places. I know clicking on words for more info is optional, but I can't resist it.

>>736135356
>See orange text for the literal first conversation of the game
>think "Oh, neat. Lore like in Pillars"
>My orange text spawns more orange text because I have high intelligence
I appreciate how opinionated even the lore is, but there is no gentle easing here. I enjoyed reading it but it was exhausting
