This game desperately needed real time with pause. What ever retard made the real time without pause is a mentally retarded reject.
Can't u just press escape to pause.
>>736131732No. All you can do is switch from real time to turn based with the space bar. The problem is that everytime you do it in the middle of combat the game give the enemy a free turn to fuck you up. My biggest problem with real time is that it's hard to click on fast moving sprites while there's nothing pure choas going on. Personally, I think real time with pause gets far too much hate. I love slowing things down and directing my characters orders in the middle of a choatic fight.
>>736131546Maybe it just needed better combat. I don't think real time with pause would've made everyone look forward to the next combat encounter any more then Arcanum fans do. Then again there's you so yeah I agree. It should have had that so at least a couple people could've been happy while everyone else just continued to agree playing Arcanum for the combat is silly and spamming Harm as quickly as possible just to get it over with.
>>736131546Yeah they didn't quite have everything figured out in 2001.
>>736132192I don't think combat is THAT bad like planescape torment but it's a bit rough at points. The foundation and mechanics are there for a good combat system but of course like most of the late 90s early 2000s CRPGs made by trokia or black isle it was painfully rushed at points. It's so depressing because despite their flaws I love these games. I don't think there's a more abused minority in gaming than CRPG fans. They have to contend with the normies who want more skyrim or AAA loot tower ubislop shit. At least we got once last good resurgence in the early 2010s with indie CRPGs.
>>736132550Literally every single Arcanum mechanic is in bg3 and all you did is cry about it. Face it, you don't like games at all and just obsess over badly executed ideas and superficial aesthetics
>>736132871I didn't know BG3 had a tech-magick mechanic, as well as fate points.
Kill all gnomes
test
>>736132550I think Arcanum's combat is a lot worse than that in Torment. Torment's mechanics aren't really that bad, it just has really weak encounter design for the most part. Arcanum's combat is kind of a mess in general.>>736132192Yeah, adding puase to the real-time combat option would've helped, but not enough to be a game-changer. There's already a turn-based option.
>>736132871You clearly have never played Arcanum so why talk out of your ass about stuff you don't even know
>>736134261Now that I think about it, I've been noticing a lot of strange things about gnomes and their servants...
I'm lowkey kinda shitting myself that my whole BG2 party is going to kill each other... I'm doing Aerie, the Barb, Hexxet, Dorn, and Victonia at the moment and already they're butting heads. I tried to recruit the paladin guy not long ago and he immediately picked a fight with Dorn and died. I'm also kinda desperate to find a decent tank. Dorn and the Barbarian are both surprisingly squishy and I found out that I can't do my shield or stoneskin on party members
>>736131546it's a turn based game, like fallout. the real time mode was added last moment because the publishers wanted it
Arcanum is such an ugly game... Why are the portraits all fugly Victorian dudes or homely girls? Even the Elves aren't that cute. Would it be bad to play the game as a half ork? I kinda want to go a tech build instead of magic but I haven't looked up the party members you get
>>736136514I actually think Arcanum has the best character portraits in all CRPGs.If you want ugly portraits, look at BG1 and 2
CRPG portraits all looked like shitty AI way before AI was even a thing
>>736136338Man, this is kind of why I like CRPGs where you make your own characters rather than dealing with a bunch of psychos who could potentially blow up into a fight at any moment for no reason. While I do think BG2 is great and ambitious for what it did with companions, I find that it's approach is also super obnoxious in my experience. Companions would constantly interrupt me after a super hard boss fight or large battles that I would finally beat and they start bitching at each other before I could save my game and then I accidently picked the wrong dialog option because I'm in a hurry to check what loot I earned from the fight. BG2 is constantly shoving all it's companion related content down your throat and it's so annoying. I was trying to recruit Jan Jansen during one playthrough and you have to do his time quest and then you have to go to a bar where Jaheria gets cursed by some faggot as soon as you enter so you get another timed quest shoved down your throat while you are already dealing one at the moment. BG2 just can't stop trying to show off it's companion related stuff in the most annoying unorganic way. It's so fucking annoying and part of the reason why I like BG1 more. My party loved stopping and talking about a bunch of shit during the worst moments usually whenever I'm focused on resting before a big fight and sometimes (at least from what I remember, during the large fights) and then break into a fight because of some small stupid problem (fucking Jaheria and Aerie were the worse about this shit) or one of your companions will give you their whole backstory in the middle of a fucking difficult fight
>>736136338>using enhanced edition content companions
>>736136514Yeah you could probably make most builds work. I'm currently playing as a half orc gun slinging tech crafter and it's pretty good. Just remember to get the first rank of molotov cocktails in the explosive tree and get a point in the throwing skill. It makes the game a lot easier for tech builds. If you're going the gunslinger route then make sure you get gunsmithing because finding high tier guns in the wild require meta game knowledge. Also maybe think about getting rank 3 of electricity so you can craft a device that can automatically spot traps at the cost of battery charges (assuming your tech aptitude is high enough) before you get to the black mountain clan mines because that place is miserable without it
i booted it up then got mauled by dogs or someshit never went back this game is aids
>>736137632I don't think there's a build in the world that couldn't get past the first area lol. You literally get a companion that can do a lot of the fighting for the early game areas
>>736137696possibly but i got jacked by like 4 of them at once and i dont remember my hits being that devastating to them
>>736137696>I don't think there's a build in the world that couldn't get past the first area lol.Bro, melee half-ogre
>>736137696possibly but i got jacked by 4 of them at once and i dont remember my hits being that devastating to them
>>736137367Having a huge murderous Ork fucker on my team is more appealing than the twinkish fuckboys from the og versions. The only guys I actually like the designs of are the Barbarian and Yoshio. The rest just feel fucking gay to bring along. The game needs more female party members. It's an RPG after all.
>>736137306Yeah... I had a lot of them whining about their quests for no good reason. Did they really think that reminding us for the umpteenth time that Aerie wants to see her uncle or that there's a village that needs rescued? Let me go at my own pace or at least tone down the number of incidents. It also sucks that I have to go out of my way to be a dick to people or else half my party will leave because of my reputation. Sorry if I don't get the appeal of being a murderhomo
>>736138331I think in Arcanum, some have their own personal quests that are timed. If you don't want them you can simply recruit non-speaking characters.
>>736132871Yeah but bg3s fandom is bad And yes that's important
>>736136842top right leaves in my head rent free
>>736136514Just mod in your own avatar
>>736131965hold down shift and your character will be held in place so you cam spam left click without moving
Arcanum is one of the few old crpg's where I genuinely wouldn't mind a modern 3d reimagination if done by the right studio mind you, and I'm not sure the right studio even exists anymore
>>736143302Arcanum feels very primitive mechanically, it came out after BG, but you can't even give sepatated commands to your companions and micro their positioning. But it also had some crazy ambitious elements, like the open and seamless overwold and the whole NPC reactivity, most of the resources and dev time must have went there.
>>736132871When did they let you out of the asylum?
Just pretend you are playing Diablo with a better story.
>>736142604what is the source for this one?
>>736131546I read the 200 page manual for this and played the first screen or so. I took the harm spell so the combat was trivial so far.The manual was full of very cringey 90's fantasy racism, does the game itself have all that as well?
>>736144238it's the main theme
>>736131546kill [[[gnomes]]]
>>736142985I never understood guns that used more than one bullet per attack. at first I thought it was like burst mode in fallout, but it clearly only does one hit.
>>736144238>I read the 200 page manual for thisdid you make the banana bread?
what in the uncslop is this
>>736144238Yes, but did you try the banana bread recipe?
>>736144238What do you mean, it's literally the best part
>>736143429Why do you already have that armor on Virgil at the BMC? You're not even supposed to get that armor until you try to master shooting.
>>736131546>uncslop people tricked themselves into thinking was good actually sucksWow!
