It can do complex sentences pretty reliably now, but anything requiring context or good old japanese not using gendered pronouns makes it shit its pants. It should be more obvious to the translator than the reader. Because obviously translators should have read all of the dialogue before translating. And should be referring to future lines stuff so they don't contradict themselves. Additionally translation requires you analyze the text more closely, so a translator should pick-up on things readers who skim wouldn't. One of the things with the A.I translation, is that a lot of people are going line by line. Which is better than garbage translations by morons, but I wonder how it would do against real professional translations. By people actually familiar with the work, it themes, and are able maintain consistency and tone.
