I think it's time we apologize to Civ 6.
We were too harsh on this game.

civ6 is better than civ5
civ5 has the much better soundtrack and visual style tho

The art style is debatable, although a cartoony art style like Civ 6 is more likely to age well
Civ 4 leaders were also kind of cartoony and it aged well too
The same cannot be said about 5, the leaders there look too low-detail by today's standards, because of that semi-realistic approach
As for soundtrack I prefer 6 because of how each Civ has its own track that evolves trough eras
Also Civ 6's theme is a whole load better and grandiose than 5's, which was putting me to sleep after a while
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQYN2P3E06s
But it's not surprising, considering it was made by Christopher Tin who also made Baba Yetu in 4, dude just knows how to tell a story about humankind through music.

Funniest mechanic they ever included in those games.

>Civ 6's theme is a whole load better and grandiose than 5's,
It's good but brave new world theme was better to me
And overall the soundtrack in civ5 is so much nicer. Not just the leader themes but everything:

beautiful.

5babs just want a game that plays itself with barely any strategy
They'll keep using the same solved, 100% win "strategy" everytime because the game is fundamentally shallow and underdesigned.
So when Civ 6 comes out and asks its players to think about cities development for instance, naturally they just threw a tamper tantrum

personally i like the game a lot but i see why others dont

theyll be fine, every civ launch is met with "this is shit im sticking to [previous game]". not usually this bad, but its typical for a new game to be outperformed by its predecessors out the gate. itll get some updates and sooner or later everyone will decide that actually 7 is the definitive civ game. and then 8 itll come out and everyone will decry it as shit for not being like 7.

theres a big update coming in the next month or two i think that lets you play as one civ the whole way through which will propbably be popular with people
>>
>>736160236
It flopped so bad they're turning it into an actual Civ game where you are not forced to play Harriet Tubman, Female Caliph of the Abbasid Empire
But sadly the damage is already done, the game will always be rotten at its core because of this stupid ass decision to rip off the game that failed doing the same thing with the swapping civ shit

Lol, even jewtubers like potatomfaggot whose livelihood depende on Civ being a succesful game, absolutely hate Cvi 7 and dropped it.
At this point it seems Civ as a franchise will cease to exist. But indie devs will pick up the pieces and give us true innovation. Like that Uncivilised game that has fully realistic diplomacy using natural language and LLMs.

Except Civ 5 and 6 weren't heavily flawed at launch
They only suffered from being barebones, which expansions fixed
This was the contract.
They now released an actual dogshit base game, meaning they will have to waste time and money unfucking all the shit they did first, before even considering expanding the game with DLCs

Downloaded 6 after a year today to play a few games. It's sooooo slow. Production and building improvements takes forever and it's not fun. V is better, but seriously play the Civ 4 mod History Rewritten and you'll never want to play either again. That shit is like crack.
>>
>>736158753
They completely sapped away the very essence of Civ games with 7.
Civ games are supposed to be anachronistic, ahistorical sandboxes where you develop an empire from cavemen to spaceships in any way you see fit, at least up until normal difficulties.
The whole premise of those games is to have, for instance, samurais fighting roman legions in a rainforest
Or having the zulus developing into a modern superpower and nuking london
Now you can't really do that freely because you can only play a handful of civs per era
This civ swapping shit also means there is little to no snowballing (literally half the fun of these games even if it can be unfair or broken), as each of the three eras have you starting in a boring status quo
Plus the swapping doesn't follow any kind of historical logic, aside from a few exceptions
Should have called this game "Leaders" instead of "Civilization"

There's simply no point in purchasing a Civ game until the 2 expansions that fix the game release and you can get the complete experience for a significant discount.

It doesn't, it takes one turn, and you shouldn't improve every fucking tile, just focus on the best ones you can work with the current citizen number you have

And this is why you hear so much complaining about Civ 6 mechanics
Civ 5 is so fucking barebones, it was the first Civ game of a whole load of mouthbreathers in result
Anyone that played a Civ game before 5 realizes there is nothing wrong with 6, it took 5's formula and iterated on it

the city planning aspect adds a ton of depth and skill expression if youre primarily interested in the strategy of the game over the immersion/roleplay aspect
so does civ switching in 7

>over the immersion/roleplay aspect
The whole Timeline and Historic Moment mechanics have literally more immersion/roleplay to them than anything in 5
Also the fact that natural landmarks in 6 like rivers, lakes, deserts, continents and such get attributed a name that's displayed on the map
Or even the random natural disasters
