Star Citizen is not a scam

best April Fool joke today
>>
Is Squadron 42 out yet? They said it was supposed to release Q4 2016 and never mentioned it again
>>
>>736176463
>>736175498
How did it happen that Star Citizen became an mmo in the first place?
I might be wrong, but I thought it was marketed initially as single player game.
In any case, they STILL didn't release singleplayer campaign? What a fucking shitty scam.
>>
>>736176463
Initial release was 2014. 12 years overdue, for an on-the-rails COD campaign.
>>
>>736176463
they just need more time, trust the plan
>>
>>736177128
The MMO is supposed to come out in 2028. With base-building and clan war fare and shit. Meanwhile, they are still trying to make standard UI and menus work. They are struggling to make ladders and elevators not kill their players. The game is a fucking joke.
>>
Better than Elite Dangerous.
New server mashing is really cool shit. Same it will never be used in any games because industry is shit.
>>
>>736176463
No you see, the mmo is big in scope and delays can happen but this single player game also needs a decade and millions extra because uuhhhhh
>>
>>736177671
Those are literally basic game dev tasks lmao.
>>
>>736176463
>CODslop with expensive actors in the year 2026
MMO sandbox > shit > Squadron 42

Sure...
>mmo sanbox
no thanks
>>
>>736177865
CIG literally base their entire UX/UI on the Marvel Iron Man movies. It has too look cool, like Tony Stark's visor. Usability is not even on the radar for these retards. It's fucking horrid, the worst shit I've ever seen
>>
>>736176463
that shit is never coming out, it was just an ego project that let Roberts larp as a hollywood director which was his only goal with it
>>
Stinger solo pilot meta.
>>
You guys liking the Aurora Mk II? The Aurora was the first ship they evert sold, back in 2012. Now, 14 years later, they realised it absolute fucking shit. It can't do shit. It sucks.

So what do they do? Remake the Aurora? No! They make the Aurora Mk II.

If you bought the original Aurora, 14 years ago, do you get a free upgrade to the new Mk II?

NO!! That'll be $45, thank you very much.
Also, the Mk II is just a straight up rip-off of the dragon-fly helicopter from the latest Dune movie.
Absolutely shameless.

The entire game looks like Mr. Concept Art
>>
>>736177128
Basically a few years ago, at this point more than 10, they made a poll asking the backers if they wanted a limited galaxy with a few planets or keep the original "endless" and real space simulation promise and keep on the development as long as necessary
The latter overwhelming won and now here we are
>>
>>736178986
"Overwhelmingly" is over selling it. Only like 5% of backers at the time where active on that forum. A few percent of those 5% actually answered the poll.
>>
>>736179262
I mean amongst the people who voted, even if they were less than 5% of those active on the forum that was enough to doom the whole thing
>>
>>736178754
It's starting to look like cheap AI slop by now. Grey space stations, knock-off Master Chief space armor and assault rifles, soupy Green sky boxes with space dust to convey movement. It looks like shit, honestly. Cheap, sloppy shit.
>>
>>736175498
What's funny is that with the money they had and all this time, they could have put themselves through uni, developed the needed skills and actually made the game.

The funniest part is this dynamic server meshing is made out like it's the hard part when in reality it's easy as fuck. If you can't comprehend how it'd work you know literally nothing about networking.
The hard part is masking ships, asteroids and so on popping in as you change over server region, which is so much easier to achieve in a space game where it's all really independent 3D basises.

Star Citizen not being finished is proof enough that it's a scam, nevermind all the other shit.
>>
>>736175498
While it isnt a scam it also will not be anything close to what was pitched, it will be dumbed down zoomer fps slop with gay color schemes and minimal space content.
>>
>>736179902
Seems more like a cult.
>>
>>736180585
Almost every scam has retards acting cultist over it. Even The Day Before had retards defending it.
It's just part of the scam, sunk cost fallacy and not wanting to feel tricked forces some people into a cult like defence because every critique they feel personally attacked by for insulting their intelligence in not knowing and for money they can't get back.

Rockstar learn from the goat
This game shows how insane Star wars dads are

It will never be what I backed for originally well over a decade ago now.
Oh well, life goes on.v

Modern computing is not a limitation for a distributed server system. Amazon's AWS has done this for years. MMOs have had thousand player servers for years.

They are game developers who don't know how to game dev. They need a computer science expert to help with this stuff.
>>
>>736179902
It seems that most of their issues come from trying to have so many objects be interactable and also tracking them moving at super high speeds with an engine that was never ever designed for it while constantly piling more systems on top of it.
Hence why they slowed everything down as they add more shit.
>>
>>736179902
>you can just learn everything
Then why haven't you?
>>
>>736175498
how is this allowed?
>>
>>736183507
>Modern computing is not a limitation for a distributed server system. Amazon's AWS has done this for years. MMOs have had thousand player servers for years.
No. Star Citizen use fancy tech because it is full sim with physics simulation and persistent shit. It's not the same server meshing MMOs like EVE online use. EVE is pushing the limits of what you can do now without SC server meshing. Other MMOs can't really handle thousand players on the screen fighting each other without lag fest or layer slop.

Dwarf fortress was already hard to program and he wants to do that on a much larger scale.

They definitely have some people that know what they're doing but with the money they have, they could have become the person to actually make it happen rather than a liar.

>>736183675
This is a physics problem and while it's a problem, this is again a networking problem.
Their netcode should be bundling everything as a single object to send to other players. My computer doesn't need to know that a door on your ship is open when I'm 2km away for example. But even still, bad netcode can be brute forced so either their netcode is just awful or they should swap physics engine into something more reliable. There's plenty of free ones, I'm sure they can buy better ones.

>>736183803
I have learnt stuff but that's not my point retard. The point is after a decade and almost a billion in funding, not getting uni educated to make a game you're in over your head on, is a chocie.

>>736184016
You don't know what you're talking about, at all. Star Citizen server meshing isn't anything special, being physics based doesn't make it anymore complicated for the networking part. Their tech isn't fancy, it's trivial technology nobody uses because nobody designing a game actually needs it, they just hype it up as a big task to you people because it justifies why they're not finished.
>>
>>736187639
Physics tech it's self is over rated. Nvidia PhysX which was purely visual was great tech.

Everything in games is supposed to be a simplified simulation of the real thing. Trying to simulate physics instead of simulating the world you want to make is a huge mistake. Why program 3000 interactive physics based dirt balls when you can make 1 that looks good enough, pre programmed, and copy paste?
