I'm reading Higurashi atm for the first time and I'm like done with the prologue for ep 8 so I'm almost done. Am I alone in thinking that the second half of Ep 7 is kind of shit. I feel like Eps 3, 5 and 6 were by far the best ones. I imagine since its the big reveal ep a lot of people enjoy it but I found the idea of a main villain to suck a lot honestly. The start of Ep 8 has helped a bit to make her less comically evil I guess, but it still feels like a stretch even if I like the contrast between her and Rika and their willingness to fight for the reality they want.

But that's a problem Ryukishi has in general, Higurashi is plagued with a lot of scenes that are outright unnecessary or tonally dissonant (the comedy shit is too over the top in places), and Umineko is plagued by scenes that while necessary drag on too long and lose their impact.Most of my ep 7 specific issues come from the fact that Takano has been pretty obviously evil since the ep 3 car ride but then when the big reveal happens she is just made so comically evil its hard to take seriously.
