I prefer the original game's portrayal of the supernatural and otherworldly as ancient and primordial instead of the second's attempt to ape David Lynch without understanding it worked because it contrasted the natural world the small town is encompassed by.

Only ever played the first one, and not only was it filled with artificial trial & error difficulty to pad the runtime, it also just wasn't fun even after I figured out how to play it "correctly". It's just one of those posturing games. You know, those games that aren't actually any good by most metrics, and which most people bounce off of for very legitimate reasons, but that faggots on the internet joylessly grind their way through only to pretend afterwards that they love it, and this somehow makes them superior.
