Whys the standard for storytelling in videogames so low that basically every "good" story in videogames is just a cheap copy of a film or book?
>>
>>736199290
because the games industry is filled with wannabe film writers, and most gaymers do not have standards

I'm sure you are faggot.
>>
because the story isn't the focus of video games, naked konata. the focus is supposed to be fun.

The narrative has to contend with the player's agency which makes the writing hard

Storytelling is to put babys to sleep bro. Give me either a cool world to explore or a really fun gameplay loop. Whenever a book or film focus on presenting a story rather than a vibe i know its ment for low iqs

The correct way to use storytelling in videogames it's in games like the ones created by suda51, the incorrect way is like Kojima.

Videogames as a medium are still exploitable, but making either the story or the gameplay hard filters about 99% of the current "gamers".

It is my opinion that games should not take control away from the player for any reason except the credits and loading screens
If you want to add a story to a game you should make it work under those constraints

Essentially this>>736200041.
Video games are usually meant to entertain their audience, to be fun, to elicit a sense of enjoyment.
A book or movie? They're often meant to make you miserable or upset, or to make you think on something, rather than entertain or the like. And maybe some people want that.
Personally I think bideo games are the best form of media because of their nature as a predominantly entertainment focused medium. I've read many a long, award winning novel, and while some were good and some were not, the unfortunate trait that dominated them was boredom and an inherent sense that they were made to check off literary standards. Rarely was I surprised at anything coming out of left field in a book or movie, because that's typically considered bad form unless it's done in a way like No Country for Old Men, which sucked by the way, fuck your stupid unsatisfaction themes and intentional offscreen moments.
Video games are tailored to be enjoyable.

This is why I stick to light novels. Yes there's tropes but it's easy to tell what you're getting into without even picking up the book. You rarely have to wonder if the book will suit you.
