I thought it was fun if you're a Mario fan. It's not like it's an amazing film. Power-ups appear as needed like deus ex machinas, it's a lot of references, and not enough is really established to make it work as a self-contained film. But it's totally enjoyable if you like Mario and are familiar with his games.Sonic 3 was the better movie, because even though that's also not really self-contained, it at least has more going with the narrative it introduces. Lower lows, but higher highs.
