Fellow Americans, we’re seeing something absolutely incredible — really tremendous — happening with Linux on Steam. People are talking about it everywhere. The numbers are up, and they’re going up fast. Huge gains. Some of the biggest anyone has ever seen. Perhaps the biggest ever. They said it couldn’t be done, but under my administration Linux is doing fantastic. It’s winning in a way nobody ever expected, and is being respected like never before, and believe me, it’s only going to get better. Linux is going to win so big, that geeks are going to get bored of winning. Calling them 'geeks' - that's called trolling - we do a little trolling. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

EA will try to add kernel anti-cheat to Linux, realize it's batshit insane because Linux isn't a hybrid kernel like on Windows, settle for making it run in user space in Proton, and flood their own games with cheating slavs/chinks using Linux VMs to ruin games.

This is huge cope. The biggest hurdle for user adoption is breaking the habit by making the initial jump and having to learn all an entirely new way of interfacing with the machine, and people being averse 5o making the switch because of that. The stats are showing now that vonsumers are finding the negatives of windows far too great for them not to make the switch based on that initial discomfort.

This more or less already happened with another anti-cheat, I think it was EAC. Basically, cheaters playing on Windows would spoof a Linux environment to receive a more lenient/weaker version of the anti-cheat. Instead of plugging up the hole, they just discontinued the usage of the Linux version instead.

Steams own data.
Also it shouldn't be a surprise cause Indians literally cannot buy 99% of the stuff that is on Steam due to India financial laws cockblocking them.
Steam doesn't accept indian bank bullshit so you need a foreign card/account to get anything which most people simply do not bother with. And consoles simply do not get sold in India by the big players - you have maybe one or two stores in the bigger cities but those charge extreme markups so no one is buying a PS5 or Switch either.

The biggest cope is thinking that people making the switch will just happily stay there forever. My friend was the biggest arch linux shill until he got a job and realized that spending 2 hours everyday documenting his fixes for rudimentary things like alt tabbing screens while in a game, HDR, audio drivers for multiple audio sources etc. was just not worth it. He literally had to choose between having a dim but stable screen using X11 or a bright screen that teared up everytime he played a fullscreen game using Wayland. Linux is fucking pathetic if you want something that just werks.

Also, just wait till you have 100,000 pajeets hop on linux and then completely shit all over the open source code and flood the current active community devs with shitty pull requests. If you think your distro's update flow is slow just wait till you have an army of poop munchers bloating your code, sending 5000 push requests every day and completely overflowing everyone else with their GPT code.

Nope. That's windows. Linux has plenty of distros that justwerk. Fedora is probably the best generalist, Mint is great if you don't game or only play old games, Nobara is just Fedora but with all gaming related stuff already set up for you. There's also distros that need more work, like Arch or Gentoo, but those aren't all there is.

DXVK was literally written by a Nier autist who wanted to play Automata on Linux.
Valve saw the potential and backed him. That's how proton came to be.

It was completely made by a single fosstard schizo. So you're wrong.

And that will happen as an inevitable result of Linux gaining marketshare. Once it hits 15-20%, it'll be too big to ignore and Linux PCs will start being sold. This will also fix the other major issue, which is software support. Once Linux is big enough, shareholders will start asking Adobe, Microsoft, etc why they're leaving millions of users and dollars on the table and they'll have no choice but to port Photoshop and Office to Linux.

Valve did what corporations do best when they are actually working as intended, they threw money at key individuals to make shit happen. Majority of fosstards are literal liability to linux as system, those who are not are on direct valve paycheck. Which is exactly how you get linux up to snuff, you kick all the attached axewound programmer socks leeches and invest in few key people that can get shit done.
>>
>>736217717
>i cant see big game companies making games for linux because of dynamic linking shit and endless distro configurations.
Valve already did the work for you. If you want to release a native Linux version of your game on Steam, you don't need to care about specific distros, you build it for the Steam Linux Runtime which is installed on top of your distro.
The actual reason native Linux ports are a pain in the ass is because they're a lot of extra work and knowledge for a niche player base and most PC game devs are accustomed to working with DirectX, which is why a lot of native ports run worse than Proton.

In my trade you wouldn't get anywhere with Windows.

yeah thats the problem, also another thing that accelerated all this was also valkun, and one big schtick of proton is that it converts directX calls to valkun, native ones probably wouldn't be able to make use of all the optimizations and shit, setting back a lot of progress, so its all kind of just dependent on windows it seems,
the only way people would be free from windows would be that everyone decide to lock gamedev to fixed windows versions lets say win10 don't use future directX versions and not use kernel anticheats haha

Still not correct.
The OS version list in OP does not include deck users, thats 5% of desktop installed linux only, otherwise the deck would appear in that listing as its the highest single share of linux over Arch. Deck is only listed when you filter down to Linux Only versions.

You’re misreading the chart, genius.

The top-level OS list only shows the highest overall *platform* shares. Linux is bundled as one bucket there because it’s like ~5% total. They don’t break it into Arch/SteamOS/Ubuntu unless you filter to Linux-only.

When you switch to the Linux tab, Holo 64 shows up because now you’re looking at sub-distros *inside* that 5%. That doesn’t mean Deck users were “excluded,” it means they’re already counted under the main Linux percentage.

If Deck actually had enough share to break into the global top OS list, it would show next to Win10/11. It doesn’t. That’s the point.

Learn how filters work before you start theorycrafting about secret missing Deck users.

What do you mean?
Most software for music/image/video or any kind of production whatsoever and manipulation is not available on linux and it doesn't just work through WINE. There's plenty of software (paid, that is) that has no replacement on linux other than something basic. All you have as an alternative to software like capture one pro/lightroom and a bunch of decent other programs for instance, is Darktable, because everything else replacing these editors is simplistic, slow, worthless. The only thing you'll get is "well it's volunteer unpaid work". Well I like the option to give money to someone to make something I want to use instead of coping and wasting my time.

For example 5.33%(Linux total) * 1.67%(Ubuntu 25.10 on the Linux page) = 0.089% but the percentage for Ubuntu 25.10 on the front page is 0.06%. Same thing with Arch at least and probably the rest. I'm too retarded to figure out how the math works but it seems like the 25% from the Deck isn't being counted.
