Played pic related and got about halfway into chapter 2 (elf village shit) and I have to say this game is pretty ass. Sure it seems cool that you can use a dragon but it controls like shit. So was it all grifters liking shit from youtube or does the game magically get better gameplay out of no where?
>>736216005>So was it all griftersWe've always known this game is pretty mid at best when it comes to the gameplay. It's a B tier game with unique story and OST. i think fans like the fact that the bad gameplay lowkey gatekeeps the game itself.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-0RZeIfT4Y
>>736216005>does the game magically get better gameplay out of no where? No.We, the people of Yoko Taro, LITERALLY warned you about the shit gameplay ... AND love it BECAUSE of it.It's a game about inhumane madness and cruelty, that is manifested through the player and his own suffering. Sounds like pretentious nonsense soup to zoomies, but that is the truth. And yes, I actually beat this game on my own some 15 years ago.
>>736216005unironically game was so shit that around chapter 5 or 6 it broke me into loving it
>>736216543Least homosexual r/drakengard user
Is the sequel any better? I'm mostly playing the Drakengard games as a prelude to the Neir games.
>>736216915you shouldn't, only relation to nier is a meme 5 minutes route you can just watch on youtube and everything else was just a radio drama which also you can listen to on youtube
>>736216915It's the same garbage gameplay, now without interesting story or characters.
>>736216005It’s supposed to be shit, that’s the meta narrative Yoko Taro was going for
>>736216005>OP thinks Drakengard fans actually like to PLAY DrakengardKek
seeing this game at Hollywood Video when I was 10 I was never so sure I'd love a game in my life. the box was cool as fuck, the name was cool as fuck, it said square enix on the boxI still don't think I've ever gotten filtered by a game so hard to this day
>>736216005>So was it all grifters liking shit from youtube or does the game magically get better gameplay out of no whereIn my experience, even the people that 'like' Drakengard will tell you the gameplay is utter dogshit. I played it last year on PS2, got all the endings and weapons, and thought it was ass.
Do you need any specific settings on pcsx2 to play the game
>>736216005PS2 game from a literally who B-studio, what did you expect? It had some cool ideas though.
>>736216915>Is the sequel any better?Gameplay wise? Kinda. But it's non-canon fanfic spinoff.NieR Replicant is the actual sequel.
>>736216005Story has some really high beats, but Its just an ass version of dynasty warriors with a twist.
>>736217283No.
>>736216543I got this game because I wanted a Dynasty Warriors game with gore. I think i saw a clip of it on some game review show on tv and instantly bought it, never finished the game.
>>736217319you mean Gestalt
>>736216005>Grifters No. Nobody has ever claimed that Drakengard 1 has good gameplay. What it has is an extremely interesting and plot and cast of characters that make putting up with the ass gameplay worth it. Even then, it's usually only a game that you come to after playing Nier Replicant and Automata and then deciding that you like the setting enough to go and experience what it's origins are. That will likely take you to Drakengard 3 and then to Drakengard 1.
>>736216915Don't touch Drakengard 2 if all you care about is the lore. It isn't in any of the Nier/Drakengard continuity and was done without Taro on board. His stage shows, Nier musicals and Orchestral Concerts featuring the Nier/Drakengard music are far more relevant to the canon than Drakengard 2
Inuart screaming in despair at dead Brocon trash Furiae while Cosmo from Fairly odd parents sings and twirls will never not be funny.
>>736217919It's not like he did any better with 3.
>>736217749No.That Microslop mandated censored localization hack does not count.
>>736218383They actually did
>>736218412Papa Nier works better for a lot more story beats though
Is it technically good design if you set out to intentionally make your game shit to play?
>>736216005Did you like the cutscene with the dragon and the pact? If you did, keep playing.
>>736218674No, it absolutely does NOT.That idiotic change completely destroys the mood and premise, and makes Nier seem like an utter retard. The whole point of the game is to have a dying world exploiting CHILDREN, molding them into cynical killing machines - the very mirror image of the things they're fighting. This and the whole timeskip no longer exist in the Gestalt version. Similarly, any mentions of romance and even sexual violence were outright deleted from the Western version.Yes, I did play the PS3 Gestalt years ago, and I did enjoy it. But it always felt "off", though I just brushed it off as the game being cheap and rushed low-budget game. Then I started doing some research, realized that it was meant to follow Ocarina Of Time's blueprints, and generally be way more grim in tone ... and I got upset.
>>736219687>keep playing this horrendous game instead of just watching a story playthrough on youtube
>>736218674Nier Replicant was literally a supposed to be a pastiche of Ocarina of TIme's coming of age narrative with a darker atmosphere. That's why you collect the Seven Sages/Sealed Verses to fight Ganondorf/the Shadowlord and save the world and why there's explicitly a forest dungeon, a haunted dungeon, a desert dungeon (with an annoying sequence related to it)That doesn't work when the protagonist is already grown up, nor does the dialogue that you would expect from a teenager sound better coming from a nearly middle-aged man or the fact that most of these places he visits shouldn't be that new to him compared to a literal 15/16 year old travelling to all these exotic places. Literally, the only thing going for Gestalt is Kaine being more aggressive in terms of her VA's performance (Weiss' performance is good in both versions, albeit the English VA is focusing on him being pompous and his Japanese VA makes him out to be a curmudgeonly old man either of which work with his personality). It's either exactly the same like it is in gameplay and general mood or objectively worse like in the most of the relationships Father Nier has or how Yonah sounds like she's 30 years old rather than a child.Gestalt isn't horrible, but it definitely isn't as good as people make it out to be. Replicant makes a lot more sense both as a game and in terms of canon since in Nier Automata, 9S is a manlet because he's based off of teenage Nier rather than (young) adult Nier because he's based off of Brother Nier's personality matrix and Commander White is a man-hating lesbian. It's a product of its time and while not absolute trash, pales in comparison to Replicant.
>>736219752Did you read summaries instead of required reading back in school?
>>736220285I say that >>736219752 as someone who played the game when it first came out.The story is really the only good thing about this, next to the amazing ost.
