Why did it flop?
>>736216489I was just really mid and given the 8 year build up people expected more. Nintendo shouldn't announce games years in advance.
>>736216489It's the best MP game yet
Prime games don't traditionally sell well
>>736216489Released far too late for people to care.
>>736216489Because it was a game without a proper focus. The new aspects were shallow, underdevelopped and in many cases outright undesirable. Then of course there's the horrid level design. The maps were braindead corridors where you never had to stop and decide which door would you explore first. The desert wasnt even so bad compared to how terribly simple the actual zones were.
>>736216489It sucks and games cost almost $100 now. If a game is not great people aren't going to buy it.
>>736216489Metroid games are relatively niche, at least compared to other more popular Nintendo franchises, so this, alongside the fact that the game was mid (largely due to so much of its game design elements feeling like they came from the early 2000s without any improvements whatsoever), obviously didn't lead to strong sales or even a strong presence in general.
i bought a s2 for bananza. it was good but braindead easy. i didn't even bother with prime 4.
Nintendo, potentially just Tanabe, does not understand what makes Metroid appealing. There's a reason they keep outsourcing the games to different studios. Texas. Spain. Singapore with the Bandai situation. They don't "get it," and I'd argue maybe never have gotten it. Metroid Fusion was FAR more linear than Super Metroid. Super may very well have just been a fluke that spawned an entire genre.>>736216798>Metroid games are relatively nicheOnly because Nintendo doesn't understand them. Metroidvania games are an incredibly popular, almost downright oversaturated genre at this point.
>>736216489game is mid reddit-marvelslop and yet it sold very poorly
>>736216489its on the switch 2 and the reddit guy
>>736216489The Metroid "Fanbase" does not play the games.
It's a Japanese game that accidentally exposes how dead the Western industry is. The Retro Studios that made the original trilogy is long gone and the idiots currently wearing its corpse are a bunch of clueless faggots who wanted to make a Marvel game.
>>736217205fuck you nigger I bought dread
Trying to sell it on ebay. Donkey Kong went in 5 minutes. No one wants this lol it's cheaper than every other losting.
>>736216857>Metroidvania games are an incredibly popular, almost downright oversaturated genre at this point.true. as i said above i bought a S2 for bonanza. my second game is Nine Sols.
>>736217205Dread was good though. Not great, but good.
Samus' sandy pubes
>>736216489because prime was never actually good and only liked because gamecube cultists never shut the fuck up
>>736216857It's kind of weird how Nintendo now loves to give players a lot of freedom to explore and find things out by themselves, but Metroid, the one franchise where it could benefit the most from this philosophy, has yet to take advantage of it and they're still holding the players hand so they don't get lost and bored.
>>736216489one look at the trailer was enough
>>736216489The Prime games are a spinoff series. Prime 4 sold 3 times less than a real, canon, mainline title like Metroid 5. That's pretty ok for filler.
>>736216489made by Americans they just can't make good games
it's actually embarrassing how they fumbled it. A bloated, linear corridor shooter pretending to be Prime 1. Looks decent for a Switch game but on Switch 2 it's just "cleaner" with better lighting and less pop-in. Samus's model is fine, planets look pretty, but everything has that sterile, last-gen sheen. No real next-gen leap, just upscaled Prime 3 with extra bloom and HDR. They keep calling it "Beyond" like it's some epic evolution but it's literally Corruption 2.0 with a new planet called Viewros or whatever.Gameplay loop is the real killer. Exploration feels padded as fuck—backtracking through the same biomes for "new" upgrades that are just reskinned versions of the old ones. Boss fights are either bullet sponges or quicktime-tier. The new Sylux rival stuff is barely there, story is some generic "lost on alien planet, find way home, ancient race blah blah" garbage with zero memorable twists. Scans are back but half the logs are missable one-time crap that punishes you for not OCD-exploring every corner.Controls on Switch 2 are whatever—dual stick works but motion aiming still feels tacked on, and the mouse mode is a novelty you'll use twice before going back to normal because it breaks the flow. Length is solid 12-15 hours for story, more for 100%, but it drags hard in the middle with fetch quest bullshit.$70 for the Switch 2 edition? Lmao get fucked. This is peak Nintendo milking: delay it forever, slap a new coat of paint and an "enhanced" label, charge extra for the upgrade pack if you bought the base version. Real Prime fans know the series peaked with the first two—everything after has been declining, and this "Beyond" is just confirmation the soul is gone. Retro phoned it in while chasing that sweet casual money with amiibo tie-ins and easy mode handholding. If you want actual good Metroid Prime, go emulate the GC trilogy or play the remasters. This Switch 2 version is pure nostalgia bait for people who think "big number = good game." Filtered. Sage.
>>736219916>They keep calling it "Beyond" like it's some epic evolution but it's literally Corruption 2.0 with a new planet called Viewros or whatever. This game might have been interesting if combat had a Phazon mode like Prime 3. But it's obvious that even something like that wouldn't have saved it. Worst boss battles in the whole franchise. There's maybe one or two decent ones in there.
>>736216489It’s a bad game. Americans can’t design a game that doesn’t have a barren open world and a Jar Jar Binks tier comic relief character. Unfortunately that’s extremely incompatible with Metroid.
>>736216489it's mid Jim, also garbage marvel sidekick
>>736216489they scrapped the game and sloppily made a new one
>>736216489galactic federation NPCsno-one likes the galactic federation
>>736216798>feeling like they came from the early 2000sThis would be a compliment, games were better in the early 2000s than they are now.The game sucks, because it has more in common with a late 2000s or early 2010s FPS campaign than it does with a Metroid game.
Because it personally offended me by not making Sylux cool enough. Everything that displeases me inevitably fails.
