did you know that most routers reach end-of-service after only five years? many are still being used without critical security updates.

anon, is your router's firmware up-to-date?

Stick with Broadcom chipsets and you'll make it.

Do noobs really?

Welcome to the official website of the FreshTomato firmware project, a system based on Linux
Stopped right there. If you're running linsux, why not just run exposed and broadcast all your account information?

i didn't say buy a new one, i'm just pointing out the bullshit of planned obsolescence

$1,000 cellphones are the same. security updates stop after a number of years
>>
>>736223471
It's because support costs resources. You can't split your developers across too many products. Even free shit like linux has EOL thresholds.

My ISP will send a new one whenever
Its unironcially a good router
We on fiber and get great speeds in my neck of the woods
>>
Yeah and it locked me out after updating it. I at least set it up first. Can't be arsed to factory reset it again. Seems to be a known issue with others having the same issue.
>>
>Doesn't work with my PS5 so I have to constantly fuck around with network settings to get it working
>All settings have to be managed through a fucking phone app instead of a webpage hosted on it
>The configuration is terrible and makes simple tasks like port forwarding take 15 minutes
>Sometimes can't even set up port forwarding for a device because the device isn't added to some arbitrary list
Unfortunately, paying for this piece of shit every month is the only way they'll let me have the highest bandwidth tier and no bandwidth cap.

you already lost

You literally can set it to bridge mode and use your own firewall. Do you, perchance, know what a file is?

It's not quite troublesome enough that I want to spend the money on a new high-end router (plus either a mesh set or another high-end one or two for extenders/APs). I have three Xfinity extenders set up around the house because they basically give them to me for free when I ask for one.

>>736225110
But you're complaining about the actual features of the built in NAT, when you could avoid that by setting up your own like a civilized human.
>>
That's my ISP's problem and so far they have always upgraded mine every 3 years.
>>
>>736221876
I think asuswrt-merlin dropped support for my ac66u b1 because Asus dropped support so I went back to >>736221582 The interface and feature set is just so much better.

Some ISPs are actually pushing out routers that can't be put in bridge mode. It's pretty grim. E.g. Bell Canada's fibre modems.

Someday, I'll upgrade to a 2.5gb router and hub.

Sounds like you're the cuck who can't figure out OpenBSD.

>>736220976
That's why I bought a Flint 2; it runs OpenWrt and will do so for decades.
Also, the main reason I got it was that it was the best raw performance for the buck, and now I can run bufferbloat prevention, preserving my latency all the time.

You can build a firewall that's a lot lower power draw, or even buy a cheap minipc: https://a.co/d/04AlouDB
