The devs have said a long time that they didnt expected Peak to be that popular and that they would drop updating it so yeah, people gotta accept they dont wanna work on it
>>
>>736225595
Its kinda funny how ingrained GAAS is with faggots now that they just expect it as the default.

NOOOOO IT'S BEEN ONE WEEK SINCE THE UPDATE
I NEED CONTENT
I NEED UPDATE
I NEED NEW THING
>>
>what do you mean a game isn't updated forever for free? Just like blast it with ads or something and give me give me give me!!!!!
Roblox and fortnite has been a disaster for gaming
>>
>>736225975
It's insane, you can read steam discussion pages of fully complete games and people are moaning about the game being abandoned. They fucking finished the game, what the fuck do you mean abandoned?
>>
>>736226132
I saw that on the Dredge forum recently. I had to do a double take that I didn’t accidentally open the wrong link.
>>
>>736226132
it's still a bit odd to get extremely lucky with a game and NOT support it as much as you can, it might be the only real chance you as a studio get to entertain this many players.
>>
>>736225595
Aren't these the guys who got so sensitive they censored a hat?

>>736225595
Unless there's some actual gamebreaking bug, they have no obligation to do shit to the game

File deleted.
Wow, who would have thought that the same devs who abandoned totally accurate battlegrounds would abandon another game after getting the bag?

And god forbid if someone releases an expansion that costs money. No, you HAVE to make free updates, or at the very least a handful of free updates first

You can still play it. The idea that a game needs to be constantly changed or added onto is symptom of GAAS and has nothing to do with support

You're working for free on something you probably want to put behind you now rather than using that time and energy on a new project.

They should fix their shit before abandoning it if you ask me. If they dont want to add more content i understand it takes time and resources away from other projects, but atleast fix your comercial product that is already in circulation.
>>
>>736226132
I agree, it's fucking insane to think that a completed game NEEDS updates until the end of time.
However, it's fair for games that were in Early Access because they rarely release fully finished. A lot of the ones I own were still full of placeholders and "COMING SOON" signage on full release.

They are updating it though, theyre specifically going slow and want to end big updates after this next one because they want to make other games. The success of peak has enabled them to be able to spend more time on their next, which in honestly looks kind of stupid.

They should have gone the route of a peak extended universe type of thing and make games with similar characters in different situations.

>>

>>
What the devs actually said:
>"Peak has had sooo many updates tho." "Neither us or Aggro Crab are live service studios, any update is a bonus not a right. We just made a huge update for customising runs, but full customisation is a big ask. However if there are specific suggestions we'd love to hear them. [Regarding] modding, we have a great connection with the modding community, when asking if we should add [a] workshop etc they didn't want it."
>"Last year was our busiest ever, with the PEAK release, Haste, TABS: Pocket Edition, and ROUNDS ports." "We worked on something new for this year, but in the end, it didn't work out. We've stretched ourselves too thin, and the pressure to deliver a new game every year can be a lot on such a small team."
>"Don't worry, we'll still be working on new projects, just maybe at a more reasonable pace."
What the journo portrays it as:
>Brave devs snap back at nasty ungrateful players! These hard-working people say they owe you nothing, you sniveling little worms! You think you're entitled to more content from an $8 game? Go suck an egg, says these devs! They hate you and your demands!

To be fair, some games do that shit well, like Warframe and early Dauntless.
I haven't played DRG in a while, but I remember their GaaS shit being pretty cool too (it's probably shit now, I assume.)

>>736226132
Games don't need to be hard-line """finished""" in 20XX, there's no physical distribution to worry about, it's just updating some code and hitting an upload button. It doesn't take that much effort to crank out another update to fix some bugs and balance issues for a game that needs it.
A lot of devs are just lazy and move on to the next game because they don't care about boosting their review scores or building good will with their fanbase.
I mean, games don't need to be Terraria or No Man's Sky and update for decades but there's something morally wrong with devs that just shit out a game, fix enough bugs to stop refunds, then run off to go hop on whatever the current bandwagon is.
>>
>make an update worse than what mods had already

>>
>>736225595
they should’ve made the game have better longevity without the need for updates. the maps changing slightly once per week is not good design for player retention. most of the cosmetics being rng gated for items and events that may not appear during a run is also bad design and really only gives you the motivation for a couple more playthroughs at best.

And they wonder why I don't bother to pay full price anymore.
The worth of a game comes from its state at release and the care of the developer after that and they are currently worth a maximum of 15 bucks, because neither is present in our current vidya industry.

>I haven't played DRG in a while, but I remember their GaaS shit being pretty cool too (it's probably shit now, I assume.)
they haven't changed anything. in fact, they've made it so you can go back and do any of the seasons you want, and when you activate a season it will change the missions accordingly (ie if you turn on a robot season, it will spawn more robot events, etc). and for people who don't want to deal with any of that, they also added a season 0 that just has everything normal too. it's great. people also complain about drg being "dead" because content updates have slowed while the devs are working on the new game, but like, drg has plenty of content already, it's ok for devs to do something different. forever games are a blight

If they aren't monetizing the game I don't think it's a hot take. I agree with it. Updates come at the developers' pace not the gaymers.
The only counterexample I can think of is Early Access games that have been in dev since forever like Project Zomboid (buyers expect the game to be finished in their lifetime).

i only ask that video games be clean and free of bugs when the developer moves on, all loose ends tied up and such. of course they have the right to move on to new projects, but it is such a shame to see a game left unfinished.
workshop/mod support is also nice and arguably better than a regular content update to the game, because then fans are allowed to create and play any amount of content they want for the game for as long as they want.
right now i think peak is in a good state to let go, but there are just a handful of annoying fucking shit bugs like how giving a helping hand to another scout can sometimes drain their stamina bar completely.

You're about 30% right and 100% blinded by your need to feel superior to others

We don't hate other gamers enough either. Look at how many idiots on here took the bait.
>>
>no, we don't want peak to be a billion dollar IP even though it's there for the taking
>>
>>736248956
No, this was the quote the entire article was made around btw
>"Y'all are mad at Landfall for not releasing a game, I'm mad at Landfall for their lazy dev cycle for Peak when they could be doing so much more with it considering they're ending development of it this year,"
>>
>>736225595
I understand not wanting to do free work on a $8 game, but it's a really stupid business decision to not release maps and charge a small fee for it given the game's popularity.
>>
>>736245014
they are exceedingly wealthy after the games success you cocksucking fag
>>
>>736249380
Wouldn't it be easier/more profitable to just make a new game with requested features and charge whatever? Rather than drip feeding small paid or unpaid updates.
>>
>>736249380
That dev just wants to make more vidya not keep updating the same one over and over.

I felt entitled to more content when Deep Cock Galactic.
Though it was made to be a live service with treadmill engagement mechanics to force a playerbase.
I never expected anything from Peak but I wish they chose to make it run better or added a way for it to generate climbs rather than to have manually created ones.

I fully understand why players would expect content - it's popular, its presentation is like early access, and we live in an era of live service slop being the only thing players play.

Why are game devs such massive retarded faggots?
While right, how can a person be such a colossal fucking retarded that this is your answer?
Also just make paid DLCs you absolute fucking mongoloid, your friendslop dogshit is still maintaining 30k players daily
>>
>>736226132
You have to understand that a lot of kids are growing up with live service games like Fortnite. They don't understand the concept of a game getting a few updates then being "done."
>>
>>736245014
Nigger they made a game with a budget of 2 cookies and a soda and made millions wtf are you on about
Plus what these faggots were answering to was people asking for DLCs

Since when did g*mers like games shipping as unfinished? There was outrage over Air Riders being a complete package too.

On one hand, I don't think developers absolutely need to keep updating a game if it's content complete and had some extras in there for longevity. The state of having regular PEAK clique threads on /v/ shows that even without consistent support it's going to do fine.
On the other hand, with them selling merchandise, collaborations in Fortnite, and being both companies largest game it makes no sense why they'd be so hesitant to focus on it. I also don't like how it is a live service title and requires an online connection despite the maps being local and servers being P2P. I don't have much sympathy when they're busy selling $20 Fortnite skins and acting UwU cutesy on Twitter about it.

I don't know, moron.
>>
>>736226132
I remember when Kirby Air Riders was stated up front by Sakurai that it would not get DLC, and people were still begging for it.
It's not like /v/ is immune to this either. We have constant Steam chart threads and Twitch streams numbers arguing whether or not a game is dead

Except Air Riders is blatantly unfinished with several jarring and unreasonable exclusions and is far from a “complete” package, which is why everyone seethed about it. Peak’s the same way because it crashes if you look at it wrong.
>>
>>736249380
Just add workshop support and dip. Really not that difficult.
>>
>>736247221
erm, no you cannot have that because RACIST! However, you can have this annoying racist twitter guy in the game because has a song named after our mascot.
