PS1 game is pretty good

Several
War of the Worlds video games exist, ranging from retro strategy to modern survival, based on the H.G. Wells novel or Jeff Wayne musical. Key titles include the 2011 2D side-scrolling action game, the 1999 RTS/combat game, and upcoming indie horror projects. Key upcoming titles include a new, ambitious open-world survival game by Flip Switch Games and the action/adventure title The War of the Worlds: Siberia.
Here is a breakdown of War of the Worlds video game titles:

The War of the Worlds (2011): A single-player, 2D side-scrolling action-adventure game developed by Other Ocean Interactive for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds (1999): A third-person, vehicular combat game for PS1, which featured driving and shooting in an adaptation of the musical.
Gray Skies: A War of the Worlds Story (2020): A stealth-based adventure game that received largely mixed to negative reviews.
War of the Worlds (Upcoming - Flip Switch Games): A hardcore open-world horror survival game for PC, focusing on scavenging and escaping tripod invaders.
The War of the Worlds: Siberia (Upcoming): A narrative-driven action-adventure game set in an alternate 19th-century Russia.

The book unironically feels like the birth of Survival Horror as a genre and somehow that motherfucker described concepts like a microwave gun and powered exoskeletons in the 1890s

>you run away for a while because tripods are too OP
>they you get Game Over when AYYYYYYS croak from germs
sounds like shit concept

Thanks grok

This was literally my first PC game ever, when I was like 6 years old.
Man the memories...
>>
I vaguely remember some asymmetric multiplayer game that was vaguely like this having a trailer in the last year or so.

>>
>>736230353
what would the game be, retard? run around until you get vaporised by a heat beam or the aliens die of AIDS? what gameplay is that?
>>
>>736236237
Still better than Starfield
>>
>No Thunderchild naval simulator game

Sad.

Thunderchild jobs immediately, that's the whole point of the scene

Okay then I want a Brave New World builder.

I tried reading War of the Worlds after reading some other H.G. Wells but I had to tap out. It reads like an atlas. He can't go 2 pages without rattling off a list of English towns.

I think HL2 and the striders are kinda like these things

Despite having cool designs and a great concept album and musical based off it, the story’s only real significance is being credited as the first alien invasion story. Its been surpassed by other entries in its genre.

IN THIS HOUSE THUNDERCHILD IS A HERO!

I find it very likely at least one of the major popular series about aliens is based on the real thing, I just am not sure which one

The RTS is great, I'd love if it got a remaster or remake
My optimism would kill the monkey paw

Should I read the book? I've read The Time Machine and sort of liked it. I just thought the middle dragged on for a bit, despite how short the book was.

The RTS and PS1 game is apparently pretty good. Only unfortunately part for the RTS game is that the one on Abandonware has malware in it. Good news is there's a source port being worked on right now.
Also I wish someone would finally translate the manga adaptation already.

If you get the chance you simply *must* see the stage version with an orchestra, actors, pyrotechnics, and a giant animatronic Martian, I guarantee you'll love it.

They're on tour right now doing an 'in concert' thing, which is basically the double album but with a live band and video projection ... still enjoyable but nowhere near as bombastic as the full-on live show.
>>
>>736241990
I saw it in a theater that could barely fit the fighting machine and floating Richard Burton head in it
If I didn't have horrific tinnitus before that point I definitely got it then, but it was worth it for sure

>The musical is pretty good too
As in: Jeff Wayne's? Yeah, I love that one. All the more reason to read the book, I guess.

Hmm what game mode would work for WOTW?

Some kind of PvE-only battle royale? No fighting back, just survival only and try to survive until the martians die?
>>
>>736242268
Sony style third-person movie game. I hope it never happens. As horrible as those always are, in my eyes at least, I guess it could work, if done well.
>>
>>736237451
entire point was to buy the civilian fleet some time to get away. it only briefly looked like thunder child stood a chance.
>>
Those Gears Tactics missions where you have to stay ahead of a bombardment wave, only it's to recover supplies and Martian fighting machine pieces

The RTS is pretty good
>Play as either the Humans or the Martians
>The Martians have a significant tech advantage but are vulnerable to long range artillery and battleships, but even that is quickly going to be surpassed by flying machines and other tech, so you have to weather the storm and dig in deep as the Humans because you'll research tech too and your numbers and access to resources will help you fight back
>If you play as the Martians the humans are even more prepared for you than you had previously anticipated, you can try to rush them down but you might have to slow down and fortify your positions while spreading red weed and working your way up to telepathic fighting machines and other alien sci-fi bullshit
Just add a bit more mechanical depth and a post-war campaign where the humans live in their underground cities and use scavenged Martian tech to fight back, shit would be great

I swear this fucking album plays in every other scottish tourist shop.

https://youtu.be/kFae_ZmtFq0?t=118
Russians are making their own in the form of a The Last of Us clone. It'll probably be mediocre, but the animation quality is impressive for a Unity game, if this is authentic gameplay
>>
>>736242667
Scottish tourist shops sound exceedingly based.
>>
>>736242746
Oh shit I had forgotten all about that one. I hope it ends up decent and soulful enough.
