my mom keeps showing me definitely AI-generated shit that I know is fake and I try to tell her it is and in the nicest way I can that - at the minimum - half the headlines she reads on facebook are not only not real, but not even written by a human
it's easy to tell her "that was made up by a robot" when it's something she's mad about, but not when she thinks it's funny or nice
she's slowly starting to get it, I'm honestly kind of surprised it's taking her this long because she picked up on the fact that the phone listens to you and serves advertisements on facebook based on your conversations (just by being near it) and she'll point it out when we'll be talking about something and then she gets an ad about that thing later on

The best part is that Tony is way more of a degenerate and not even happy. AJ is fucked up and Tony consistently makes his life worse, but Tony seeing AJ just talking to people on the computer and being happy is what ultimately pisses him off. He's a misanthrope who enjoys the suffering of others because he's never happy about anything, and his family are not excluded from that hatred. Meadow is probably the only one who gets away from it mostly unscathed because she puts a lot of distance between herself and the rest of them as soon as possible.

buddy you're still on the fun, light-hearted part where everybody gets along
simply put, the show is a setup: you go into it thinking you're meant to root for these people (because it's a TV show) but as time goes on, you understand that you're meant to despise them, and that their suffering is entirely deserved
>>

I do not see a point in a story without a protagonist. That is something that has existed since man first told a story. A protagonistless story is pointless.
>>
>>736238062
>Tony was living the true nature of reality
Tony isn't even remotely honest with himself. He's a narcissist who acts on impulse and emotion, rather than calculated action. He is miserable 90% of the time and spends the other 10% reveling in the misery of others. If he really understood the nature of the mob, he wouldn't have gotten his entire crew killed and them got shot in the face in front of his family. He was also kind of dumb, though not as dumb as some people claim. More like not that bright + motivated strongly by rage and the perception that everybody owes him everything they have, while he owes nobody anything. Great ideal if you can actually make it work, unfortunately, that's borderline impossible.

>you're meant to despise them, and that their suffering is entirely deserved
Nah that's a midwit take. Obviously these guys are not heroic and there's a lot of reasons to dislike them, but the whole point of observing them as a fly in the room where they can't interact with or victimize you is to witness the humanity in men you actually would otherwise despise. They are despicable but you aren't meant to despise them. If the show is "meant" to do anything, other than make HBO a lot of money, it's to demonstrate that these flawed and reprehensible individuals still have very human qualities that you also probably possess. You just don't have access to organized crime and the immediate means to harm others or your community. Tony is not "evil" because that's a simplistic word, he is flawed and does bad things and, as his coma sequence reveals, he's actually a lot like most people in the world.

>>736238465
This is also what happens when you just dismiss a story as awful things happening with "evil" people. There's a hundred lenses to everything and in this case you're looking through the wrong one.
>>
>>736238493
>one fucking character
This is such a problem with these shows and it always leads to an issue. Generally what happens is that the series is forced into prequelitis. They killed off all the characters people tuned in for, so there is no going forward. Only back. This happened to Sopranos (they had to do a prequel movie because everyone died)
Imagine if Christopher lived. Maybe you could have had a spin off 10 years later since his actor isn't 80+. But nope. Now enjoy your shitty prequel.

There is a protagonist: Tony. He is also a terrible person you're meant to hate. Protagonist doesn't mean "good person", it means "main character". Here's the point: the mob fucking sucks and being a criminal is for losers. They're all a bunch of whiny manchildren with egos the size of weather balloons despite having no redeeming qualities whatsoever. You gotta understand that The Sopranos was made after decades of mob movies glorifying that lifestyle. It was inaccurate, harmful and it portrayed them in a far-too-positive light. The show doesn't glorify anything, it's more than happy to show how there is no trust, honor or glory in the mob; they're just a bunch of murderous thieves.
>>
>>736238620
>This is also what happens when you just dismiss a story as awful things happening with "evil" people. There's a hundred lenses to everything and in this case you're looking through the wrong one.
I do not believe in shades of grey or caring for bad people. If every character of the sopranos was killed by Frank Castle in season 1, I'd consider that a good ending.

Paulie is a character i'm surprised didn't get wacked, he's such a cunt
>>
>>736238778
>It's supposed to be bad

Another big issue with these series: They only offer misery in a world already full of it. Do you order water while your ship is sinking?
Also Sopranos did more to improve mafia image than any movie ever made

For a 90+ hour film it is really fucking tiring and boring. It also makes everything predictable. You know the outcome of everything from day 1.

>>
>>736238619
Paraphrasing a bit, but towards the end NY talks about doing business in NJ with whoever will work with them more favorably after Tony is dead. Paulie is the only one with the connections and skills to lead what is left of the NJ rackets, plus he wants to move up and tried kissing NY ass before. Silvio may or may not regain consciousness and even if he does, the one time he had to fill in for Tony he couldn't handle it.

Have you ever read a political or philosophical work about something you know you'll disagree with? Same principle. I think Marx is a fucking idiot, but I still read his book. You gotta take the good and the bad, that's how you actually have well-informed opinions on things. Sure, this is just a work of fiction, but there's always something to be learned from stories.

Why is this a problem? The show was about Tony becoming more and more depraved as time went on. This was reflected in the show by showing how everything went to shit to the point where there's basically nobody left by the end. All the people who surrounded Tony are gone, he's alone and surrounded by literally-whos. That was the whole symbolism of this final shot of Paulie in the finale, that everyone is gone. It's a finale, there's supposed to be finality to it. It's not intended to continue having sequel series and soft reboots, it's over.

Tony Sirico said his greatest fear was ending up all alone, so thats exactly what happened to Paulie

i don't wanna watch past the first epsidoes where his mom dies and is tormented by the revelation he always hated her.
Not because it can get sad, but because i feel like cuckoldry is about to be unleashed on the doctor lady and i don't wanna see it.

i never really liked any of the characters other than tony.

Sekiro, though he wouldn't be able to beat Isshin

I agree with this. I rewatched the series recently and I always thought it was kind of a blatant post 9-11 shift in tone, but it is way more subtle and gradual

Now there was a Shinobi. The strong, silent type.

I can't remember why he told Johnny Sack about the joke, but I do remember being pissed at how petty the reason was

Is Old Country any good? How would it stack against 2 or 1 Remake? I liked both of those.

tbqh I love the sopranos to death but I hated the character of Livia Soprano. Not in the way of "oooh this villainous character is portrayed so well I hate her", but more of me just finding her fatiguing and felt like any storyline involving her just kept spinning in circles over and over again, this repetitive one-note story beat about how hateful manipulative mother. It was interesting in the first season, but then they just kept repeating the same bullshit over and over again with no development.

Livia's actress dying was honestly the best thing that could've happened, apparently Chase had a whole slew of other scenarios involving her. Thank god that didn't happen.

>Whatever happened there? I'll tell you what fucking happened. The made a cynical amalgamation of borrowed mechanics without any innovation what so ever.

Paulie thought he was gaining favor with big carmine via john, only to find out that carmine didn't know what the fuck he was and john was just playing him for intel

>A wise decision, on both your parts. Now what I'd love to see is a truce. Wipe the slate clean. The Markarth incident. The White-Gold Concordat. Balgruuf, put it all behind us...

A dispute with Ralph about money, which left him incensed and feeling like he wasn't getting a fair deal. Plus he just really fucking hated Ralph's guts iirc. Can't say I blame him, Ralph was a real piece of work

Those 2 and Omerta all came out and were all shit. Are there any mob management games that are actually good? I'd love to play one.

Something that lets him bask in conquest and domination while also not requiring a lot of reaction time or hand-eye coordination.
He’d play Civ and choose Rome a lot
