Tactical RPGs are clearly superior if we are talking about gameplay complexity and depth, and ARPGs are better with regards to every other category. JRPGs are fucking boring, in fact they have been boring and obsolete since Legend of Zelda was released for the NES. The entire genre is a product of laziness, everything in a JRPG is the laziest way of doing things, from the level design to the storytelling to the visuals.

I remember when there was a time where I wouldn't dream of passing up the opportunity to play a Final Fantasy. I got to a safe place in my life again to actually buy stuff and I played FF XV and just sat there playing it for a few hours before turning it off and never picking it back up again. A lot of these rpgs just miss things. To be fair, it was probably a mistake making Elden Ring the first RPG I played coming back into it, with E33 following next year. It set this ridiculously high bar that I think these other developers aren't going to be able to live up to quite yet, not before AI is integrated with creativity the way it was with E33, as opposed to being a crutch for bad managers that can't make money.
