Last of Us Online cancelled just 24 hours before reveal.>They had worked on it for 7 years
believe in bungie.
>>736241024and that's a good thing
Nothing of value was lost.
>>736241024why would they still reveal it then? the fuck?seriously though fuck anyone except the VAs who worked on this franchise
Bungie saved the world from another Concord and I'm meant to be mad?
>>736241024ngl, if you focus only on the fights and shootouts, the game is actually decent enough to have a MMO
>>736241024>[game] was developed for 7-8 yearsTime and time again. This is completely unsustainable. Your games are gonna cost 300 million if you have that kind of a budget. They have to scale back budgets to something more reasonable.
>>736241254Never they have to live in most expensive cities and have a massive staffs that sits there doing nothing all day.
Why waste that much time on AAA games without even being 100% sure it will hit?Money apparently isn't an issue, but time is an opportunity cost. Can't they keep releasing multiple relatively different cheap games of different genres trying to hit the jackpot?Genshin required $100 million for its initial production cost (including marketing costs, which were pretty high), yes. But it just happened to luck out. There are similar stories with other games: they just had dumb luck.
>>736241635Companies like Sony, Microsoft, Valve, and others have external sources of revenue and can afford losing a few billions. They also get outsider investment since these live-service games make billions if they are successful. There was also a mad-grab rush towards them starting after 2016, and these games took 7-8 years to come out or get cancelled, so we only started hearing about them after 2022 onwards. If they are a success they make a billion a year, so 200 million up front seems like a bargain. Investors like huge returns. It's kind of gambling.
Last of Us Factions was legitimately good though and I was looking forward to it being turned into a full game. People shitting on it probably never even tried the multiplayer part of the first game because they thought it was just a generic tacked on multiplayer.I feel robbed.
How the fuck do you even take 8 years making a L4D clone you already have all the assets for?
damn, no crussy huh?
>>736241214>except the VAswhat the fuck? are you part of that western VA circlejerk?
sad. I loved factions
>>736242687L4D clone? Were they going a new route where a group plays as infected or something? Factions was always humans vs humans
>>736242820They just haven't done anything bad enough for me to wish death upon them. Most of them just did the gig not knowing what The Last of Us was.
>>736242918and the guy modelling the environmental plants? hes fully to blame?no, frankly, fuck them all
>>736241024Something woke went broke?Say it ain't so!The only surprise here is that they actually canceled it instead of unleashing their woke garbage into the world. That's a surprisingly classy move, you can tell that somebody non-jewish made that decision.
>>736241024One more Concord rejected.
>>736241214>fuck anyone except the VAs who worked on this franchiseno, them too. Replace them with AI, then send them out to tend crops forever.
>>736241248Yes, because you were denied the ability to enjoy it releasing and flopping.
>>736241254One way to save money is to pay voice actors what they're worth (nothing) by using AI. You can also significantly cut down on staff by using AI, get rid of diversity consultants (they actually get you LESS sales), and stop worrying about useless details like shrinking horse scrotum.
>>736242918"I was just following orders" didn't work for the Nazi's and it wont work now.
>>736243308they just recorded voice lines. that's hardly comparable.
>>736243364so did the programmers, the modellers, etcthey just wrote the code, they just made the modelsand frankly from what we've had to see of VAfags, they are the ones who deserve it the mostfuck them all, let them all learn to plumb
>>736243474everyone else knew what they were getting into
>>736241254>KCD2 a game with outstanding graphical fidelity costed 50~60 million to make in eastern EU>E33 costed under 50 million to make in france>But somehow everything made in the US has its budget skyrocket from day 0At some point will they learn the problem lies within the borders the studios are located?Like, nigga, you can't just play pretend to have 1k people earning over 75k/y and correlate wages 1:1 with the final budget and just never learn that the american continent is just too expensive to do business within, even canada is too expensive, and latinos are just too lazy and will take advantage of the withey.
>>736241024How bad could it have been that the company that thought Concord was a good idea canned it at the last minute?Or was it a masterwork, so good Sony knew it would make every other multiplayer they released look bad by comparison?
>>736241254>90% of that budget goes to code monkeys cut them out and your budged drops under 100 mill easy, can't wait for the day they get replaced
>>736241254>could costbut most doesn't
>>736244384wrong, art is the thing which eats the budget
>>736241024FUCKING LMAO
>>736245356How?? Most games don't have that much art, they reuse the same assets over and over.
>>736244318some heeb just decided he didn't want to blow more money on that particular propaganda
>>736241254>They have to scale back budgets to something more reasonable. That's going to happen but it's going to be due to AI and people will (rightfully) bitch about that instead.
>>7362410247 years in the joint.
>>736241024>Last of Us Online cancelled just 24 hours before reveal.Reminds me of a another live service that was about to release.
>>736246046Didn't Druckmann want it to come out more than anything else?
>they saw the trailer and knew it was shit unfortunate, maybe devs should consider making mini documentaries once a year to show project progress so this doesn't happen
>>736241024
>>736241024So Sony went balls deep with Concord and Marathon and left this to die why? Didn't want to compete with themselves? Lmfao
>>736246662Honestly I think they're so delusional that it their thinking was "don't want to have TOO MANY good games out or they'll just be competing with each other for players"
>>736243308I was just following orders isnt what you would say if you were a nazi in today's political climate. You'd strut around town wearing your iron cross
>>736241024God damn, imagine working on a single game for almost 1/7th of your entire CAREER, going home thinking 'Yeah, it's finally there. We're going to show the world tomorrow and then launch in a year,' then coming back into the office tomorrow morning to be greeted with 'Oh, we cancelled it'I don't know how people work in gamedev. Maybe nobody actually gives a shit and it's just a paycheck, so they don't care what happens.
>>736244018Ding ding ding
>>736242880I want to believe they planned such a mode. moving and looting with enemy waves. introduce some variety.
>>736241024Nu devs suck so hard it's unreal. But it all makes sense when you put together that it is people working in positions they do not have the qualifications for due to unrelated factors, who have no real interest in the medium they are working on or actively see it and its audience as beneath them, who then get to coast along for over half a decade on a well-paid job with all the accommodations of a modern game studio, before they somehow get rehired onto the next big AAA project due to unrelated factors and having worked on an AAA project for over half a decade, even if it was a massive flop that no one played and burned a budget in multiple hundred millions.
>>736244018Just relocate to Missisipi. America is not expensive, California is.You can also cut 800 of those people and have a better quality product.
>>736241024wild, factions was the only good part of tlou1
>>736247820there's no talent in Mississippi
>>736241254imagine spending 300 millions to make a woke turd with a disgusting main character that repels any buyer
>>736248258Because they move to California because that's where all the "jobs" are. It's a vicious cycle that pulls in talent, chews them up and spits them out because every AAA studio is some sort of unholy amalgam of corporate business politics culture. Line gotta go up for the next fiscal quarter? Fire everyone! Experience and institutional knowledge? What's that?
>>736248258You hire them and they come... that's how it works. People move to california to work, not because they love the local joggers and crime and non existing standard of living.
>>736249071No game studio is going to get the kind of government money you need to build the infrastructure to attract tech talent in a shithole like Mississippi. And even if you could somehow get that funding and wait the ten years for that shit to get built out, you're raising the wages they'd expect by improving the place you want to work in. Stop being retarded.
>>736249491What infrastructure do you even need to make a game? Fast internet and cheap electricity? You don't have to make a AAA game.
>>736251886Yes, fast internet and cheap electricity, but if you want to try to attract employees, you need stuff like amenities, it needs to be safe, the tax situation needs to be favorable, and so on. Nobody is going to move to the fucking bayou without some really compelling reasons.
>>736248258Covid proved you don't actually have to come into an office for most game dev work. The only reason people were forced to come back to the office was because middle managers were fuming because they realized their jobs are worthless and needed to justify them.
>>736243308Goycattle-kun...
>>736252265It doesn't have to be Missisipi, I was joking. But it could be.Why wouldn't you want to move to a cheap place? LA or whatever you are in cali is far worse, it's not safe at all and taxes are skyhigh.
>>736252265I dunno about amenities, but the area is safe and has low taxes.
>>736243827The guys hired to code physics probably knew far less about the plot and themes than the VAs who got to read the script for the game.
>>736241635Money siphoning most likely
>>736252672>Why don't they move somewhere elseThey are.
>>736252672I don't think most companies are based in LA itself, but instead in the expensive smaller cities nearby like Glendale, San Mateo, and whatever else. Safety varies, yeah.>>736252710You're not convincing a spoiled knowledge worker to move to the armpit of the US and take a pay cut if there's no amenities and the only offer is 'your money will go further.'
>>736253328>Seattle/BellevueYou're not saving any money up here by moving, and only the big tech companies get the buddy buddy tax credits. And the cost of living is absolutely fucked.t. Seattleanon
