What went so right?

pAYDAY 3 is better
>>736244425It's a flashy skinner box where the time and effort to get the reward (payday loot) was easily exploitable. PD1 and PD3 never reached the same level of popularity mainly because their heists were longer more curated levels as opposed to speed running Ukranian Job or 4 stores ad nauseam.
>>736244425Didn't PD2 also have a shitty launch and it took years of patches for the game to reach a good state? How did they get away with it back then, when everybody gave up on PD3 within a few months, including the devs? Was 3 really that much worse?

>>736245268I think it was mainly the game going on sale for dirt cheap like 5-7.50$ every sale so it was easy to pick up. granted, there was still a ton of dlc's but i think at the time, you didnt really need them to do the hardest difficulties
>>736244950This is precisely why I prefer PD1. Can't speak to PD3 as I don't support 500 DLC Jewery.
>>736245268Not exactly. The systems in Payday2 worked from the outset, the main complaint was a lack of content initially. This was curbed by overkill giving out the first dlc for free, and then the next slurry of dlcs being pretty fairly priced and coupled with big discounts on the main game.It helped that they were adding heists every month for 4 months, then took a 2 month break and did it again. So within a year of payday2's release they added 7 heists. Many multiday. Then for year 2 they added 10 more heists, not counting the "new" old heists but gimmicky or infinite duration or holiday events etc. They were also mostly complicated or multiday heists.Payday 3 has been out for 2 1/2 years and they've added 11 heists. 7 of which are new, 4 of which are remakes of payday 2 heists, and all of them are single day heists. They're also VERY expensive comparatively.
>>736245268>>736247460To piggyback off this, Payday2 updates also added additional progression mechanics like the hideout, infamay, things to do with your money, mask challenges lots of weapons blah blah blah. Most payday3 heists add a gun or maybe two and completely redo a game mechanic every 6 months. They've redone armor/health twice now, and finally added perk decks.I have noticed a recurring trend whenever companies are known for 1 game or 1 series and that's when they release a sequel to their OWN GAME they somehow lose a shitload of the mechanics or features and then spend about two years adding them all back. (payday, neon abyss, slay the spire, helldivers, civilization) Or they fall into the exact same development pitfalls and design mistakes that they made with the last game or series. (division, vermintide/darktide, monster hunter wilds, killing floor 3)
>>736244425Nothing.>flop at launch>had to offer free dlc and heavy discounts to get anyone to play it>modders soon found out the game engine was 50 years old and easy to exploit>all future dlc was now free>3rdies latched onto it as it played ok on the Pentium 3 in the favela communal crack den and everything was free with the unlocker mod PD1 was a much better game, PD3 has far superior gameplay. Both those games lack content though and PD3 isnt cracked...yet
