Well, how is Rise after all these years?

Monster Hunter thread, thinking about this or going through all the TU of Wilds since I haven't touched it since launch

fun

Rise is still the best 5th gen game desu.

Classic MH fan here. I think its fun. It is, however, THE GAME where the relationship between hunter and monster could not be anymore skewed if they tried, and it takes until the very end of endgame for you to really feel like you're challenged (and this does not matter, as the new skills given, especially for GS, are hilariously broken). But its fun. There's a lot of movement to it that feels like a solid foundation for what I think could have been. It is aesthetically closer to older Monster Hunter than World is (and I do not care that anybody thinks otherwise, I like my MH having fucking color and beautiful NPCs).

I think its worth owning. Especially for that price. I hope you enjoy it but just know its too easy for its own good.
>>
I like Rise quite a bit. Wirebugs are fun.
>>
>>736246697
Might as well do the Wilds Title Updates first, then hit up Rise
>>
I'm kinda curious about something. Between the new games, which has arguably the best soundtrack because I think Rise clears this easily, right?
>>
rise lets you be spiderman and has blast dash so it is the best monster hunter
no I don't care what you think

Theme of Seliana is one of my favorite pieces of music of all time. World in general has a great soundtrack, as does Wilds. Wilds has the Diva songs, which are all fucking incredible. I think Rise has the benefit of just having a fuck ton of popular monsters, therefore a fuck ton of popular tracks. Rise also has additional remix albums that are great. Overall, I'd say Rise, then Wilds, then World.

Hate that it takes 40 minutes to beat something with LBG in endgame
>>
>>736246697
i really dislike the elder dragon fight with the platforms from the base game
>>
>>736248101
I needed a new GPU because Iceborne wasn't running well on my 1080 (yes I know, laugh) but I have a 3080 now. I should return to it and see if I can go all the way to fatalis. I heard it addressed everything that people didn't like about base so I'm curious to see how true that is.
>>
>>736247689
I'm not a fan of the added vocals to the monster themes that Rise did but I still like it more than the neutered returning monster themes that make up a majority of World or the boring movie-esque shlock tracks for Wilds.

Chameleos probably has the best remixed track and as for original tracks I'd give it to a hub theme. Either Seliana or the special Elgado somber hub theme

I'm kinda mad at how good Outlanders looks.
>>
>>736246697
Way better than on release, but as >>736247505 said it's pretty easy aside from certain endgame/event stuff for HR and MR respectively. Still very fun though since it offers more gameplay options than any other game in the series and almost all of those options are meaningful for more than just purposefully gimping yourself like many of the ones in GU were. Worth playing for sure, but I'd still like to see them build on it and make something that has some more bite to it all throughout like the older games do.

Rise is a garbage MH because of how easy it is, but its fun
>>
>>736249670
I think Rise is more fun in the early to mid game while the endgame is a bit too much for me, whereas wilds fucking sucks in the early to mid game but turns into a fun action/combat game in the late 8-10 star quests

Based. I think Rise is a bit too spastic gameplay wise for me, but I also liked it way more than World or Wilds, especially visually.
>>
>>736250287
I think most reasonable people sit right here.
That said it's easier for me to accept the yoOOOoooOoOOOoOOOOOOO! bugs and aesthetic for a kooky spinoff than wilds pretending focus mode and wound exploiting is standard series progression.

Good:
Custom movesets
Plentiful and obvious reward chasing
Centered around one cozy village and it's inhabitants
Solo and MP quests split for ease of multiplayer without jumping through hoops
Deep side systems like buddy training

Bad:
Wirebug traversal and wallrunning are too over the top, often feels like Naruto or spiderman instead of monhun
Maps feel cluttered with random glowy bullshit everywhere
4 player hunts are incoherent particle fx spam
>>
>>736246697
>Enigma
>>
>>736250639
You should be able to just pick it up where you left off, it's not like there's some grand story that you'll be lost in the middle of. Spend some time in the training room if you need to re-familiarize yourself with controls and stuff. It's better on PC aside from switch having native gyro support though
>>
>>736246697
I know people like to say World jumped the shark but it's Rise that was it for me. I played the fucking ps2 with a keyboard on my lap hunting lao shen lung so don't even try me with oldfag tests
>>
>>736250715
>Wirebug traversal and wallrunning are too over the top, often feels like Naruto or spiderman instead of monhun
Traversal was never actually fun in previous monster hunters, so it not being monster hunter isn't necessarily a downside
>Maps feel cluttered with random glowy bullshit everywhere
moddable
>4 player hunts are incoherent particle fx spam
moddable
>>
>>736251717
MH is not Mario so traversal wasn't ever really supposed to be "fun". The combat was fun. and I would argue that 4u's climbing was still pretty fun without totally breaking immersion like wirebugs do
>>
>>736252108
Why can't it be fun though, it's not like getting to the monster is a large portion of the game anyway
Especially with how the monster is always marked and there are camps everywhere
>>
>>736247505
I can agree that the early to mid game is generally easier (though I think this doesn't matter for a long time fan since they'd find any of the games easy), but I don't think you could really debate that the late game and ultra endgame stuff isn't up there with the deviants even with the bullshit you can pull as a player. Like even Amatsu who isn't that bad is at least harder than all the boosted event quest elder dragons and such from previous games, or at least I think so.

For that price it's worth trying.
The game is way too fucking easy until you get to the sunbreak content. And then it's just end game content, but broken up into more pieces so it's more grinding.
Also the sieges are boring as fuck. If I remember right you are forced to do 2 or 3 to progress the story and the rest is optional. Still awful.

>>736252449
>Also the rampages are boring as fuck
To me this always feels like such a forced complaint when boring sieges are monhun tradition and present in every game. You will never convince me that people actually enjoy fighting sieges like Lao Shan Lung outside of the visual spectacle and the satisfaction of it being over when the quest complete notification pops up.
>>
>>736252770
It's some seethe residue from when rampages were considered the "endgame", despite not having been the case for like half a decade
>>
Ok, which one is better in Sunbreak, LBG or HBG???
>>
>>736252920
Yes
>>
>>736252770
Considering how many posters cried that the Lagiacrus fight in Wilds didn’t have its pointless underwater combat component return in the original way, I’d definitely agree that Rampage hate feels forced. You still get to use your regular hunting kit during a Rampage. It’s hardly the worst kind of gimmick battle in the series.
>>
>>736252920
I honestly don't see either of them in endgame hunts
The HBG users are nearly guaranteed to cart
Bows I see more of
>>
>>736252913
And it's only been the case for like a few months on PC and a year on switch if you got it right at release, but some fags felt compelled to keep grinding it so much they were sick of it and are still seething about it.
You don't actually need to play that many rampages and in moderation it's just a funny break when you zoom around shoot turrets and go apeshit when the gong hits.
>>
>>736253109
>The HBG users are nearly guaranteed to cart
That's literally everyone who plays online. I'm astounded at how bad 5th gen hunters are.
>>

WHY DO THEY KEEP TRYING TO REINVENT IT? WHY DO THEY NOT JUST KEEP IT SPLIT? WHY DO THEY THINK PEOPLE LIKED THIS IN WORLD?

>>736247505 and >>736250715 lay it out right.
With that said, I should add that I think Sunbreak has the worst endgame they've done so far. Don't get me wrong, every single endgame gimmick they've implemented was fucking retarded but anomaly quests are the worst, just play normal g-rank. Don't expect Wilds' expansion being any better on that regard because the base game is already like that.
Fuck charm tables, fuck quest leveling, fuck wystones, fuck deviants, fuck wounding, fuck re-rolling weapons, fuck re-rolling upgrades, fuck qurio, FUCK DINOSAURS
>>
>>736250715
Wirebug traversal was fun though and gave a new dimension to both map traversal and combat. Map design was actually somewhat clean and not cluttered because they made the combat zones more distinct and open like older MH maps while they complex passages were in between. It was really easy to see the monster move areas and just follow it directly.
>>
>>736254258
anomaly quests are easily the best but given your baseless distain for all of them you're probably too biased to have this discussion
>>
>>736246697
>Well, how is Rise after all these years?
What makes you think that years going by is going to make the game any different? It's a shitty fucking cell phone game adapted to the Switch's yesteryear hardware, then ported to everything else. It's fucking garbage. Absolute fucking garbage.
>>
>>736247505
>it takes until the very end of endgame for you to really feel like you're challenged
There is no challenge at any point whatsoever. Even the end.
>>
>>736250715
>Bad:
>Wirebug traversal and wallrunning are too over the top
bad taste
wirebugs are fun, aerial movement is fun (especially blast dash), wall running is fun
and it means that it's possible to actually take shortcuts through the maps to follow monsters without needing to track them for 5 minutes like in world and wilds. Like you can actually navigate through the map how you want, instead of being forced to follow strict paths
>>
>>736254436
I mean I kinda hint at that with the broken skills.
>>
>>736254436
The challenge of MH is not just beating the hunt, it's about playing well and getting good with both your weapon and the monster's move-set. That essences of challenge is there even in low rank hunts because even if you knock the monster down, there's nothing preventing you from just completely whiffing your combo. Of course low rank isn't punishing at all but the SB content is threatening enough and will punish your mistakes.
>>
Don't know if I'm unlucky but nobody ever joined my SOS in rise. I thought the game is just dead, but once I'm strong enough to carry shitters, I noticed SOS quests are full 99% of the time, even in the base game. What the hell? I hate solo rampage.
>>
>>736247689
Without a doubt. World's soundtrack was forgettable with some exceptions like Rotten Vale and Bazelgeuse themes, Iceborne was good but was mostly rearranged old tracks for returning monsters, and Wilds is just a wet fart with nothing memorable at all except Iceshard Cliffs and possibly the worst rearrangements they've ever done with dogshit like Rathalos' and Seregios' theme.

Is this true? I played it for 10 minutes and the starting area looked so brown and green I stopped playing. Very ugly. Guess I will give it a second chance.
>>
>>736254752
>Wilds is just a wet fart
I have yet to jump on Wilds because sadly it does run like shit on my PC but I am so fucking sick of Capcom's current era with making shit music. They were one of the pillars of the industry with Sega and SNK for music. Yes, they played it more safe than other companies by relying on legacy and nostalgia, but they were good at it.
>>
>>736255109
Jho should be a mainstay in every game and I mean that wholeheartedly
>>
>>736255326
maybe, but bazel is annoying and deviljho is always cool
>>
>>736255329
It never reaches Tri or Generations in terms of saturated colors, but yeah.

RiseBreak might be the best game forever at this rate. Wilds is shit.
Wirebugs are fun, they should be in every future game and they don’t need to change anything about them.

How's the population on PC these days? I have Rise and Sunbreak on Switch but never got into Sunbreak content due to my group splitting apart by the time it came out, so I'd be fine to probably start from scratch if I had to on PC since I have a newer system and I'd imagine it would run it more stable than the Switch version, and also picked up a Deck as well that I'd imagine would run it at least as good as a Switch?
