genuine questionhow can you tell when to fight and when to run and is it possible to soft-lock yourself with those respawning crimson head zombie things if you kill too many and take too long on the game and those mega shits spawn? I am awful at these kinda games idk if i can manage..
Yeah, it's a nightmare without a guide.
>>736260440The best strategy is to only kill the bosses. Most enemies can just be ran past.
Focus on burning the zombies around the save room
>>736260440get a general layout of the mansion, find what rooms you'll be traveling through a lot, and clear them out so you have a safe passageway. To start, find a safe room with an item box and make sure you have a clear path there from the main hall. If a zombie can be easily juked without much effort, you can probably leave him be. If there's a zombie that you can't reliably maneuver around, kill it
>>736260440Assess the room's threat/usefulness levelIf it's a dead end room you're unlikely to come back to, runIf it's a potential high-traffic room you'll be using repeatedly, clear it out and burn the corpsesIt's impossible to softlock yourself, but you can make things difficult if you are wasteful with ammo and saves
>>736261278>>736261156>>736261013>>736261030shit im most paranoid is the dumbass crimson head system, what even is the point of that, i guess its to make it so u have to burn the zombies so the game isn't too easy
>>736260440You can’t Everyone who says otherwise is a fucking liar and has either beaten the game 500 times or used a guideYou learn the layout and enemy locations after your first run, but it’s impossible to predict certain things on a blind first playthrough Just suck it up and accept that your first run will be messy, or cave and use a guide You shouldn’t ever soft lock yourself, I don’t think that’s actualy possible because the whole game can be beaten with only your knife
>>736261358>what even is the point of thatto make the game harder as you progress and get better>>736261156>If there's a zombie that you can't reliably maneuver around, kill itthis is all that really matters, keep saving on new slots if you are really worried about softlocking
you can't really tell unless you know it's going to be a high traffic roomsay the bathroom where the zombie flops out of the tub, you can leave himoutside of the save room with the wonky door? kill em
>>736261358Firstly it was to give returning fans familiar with the original something new to shit their pants about and it workedSecondly it's another cool risk/reward aspect which the game is full of, it makes you weigh up whether killing an enemy is worth it for the peace of mind you'll temporarily getOf course, once you're good at the game and can fly through it any zombies you kill won't have time to reanimate
I play on easy mode and kill everything.
Simply kill whats in your way and avoid what you can avoid. The game isn't that stingy on ammo, you'll have plenty.
>>736260440>>736260919It’s not that hard, and no you don’t need a guide. The game literally tells you if you’ve found everything in a room.In terms of crimson heads it’s not that big of a deal just avoid zombies that you can avoid, and burn zombies when you can, mostly the ones that are in hallways around safe rooms.I went into the game for the first time worried about the crimson heads and ammo, and i ended up only needing to deal with a few, and had enough ammo to arm a small nation. And if you are that much of a scared ass pussy, play as Jill and select one of the easy modes.
>>736261814jill is easier? i was gonna play as her anyway cause of her swaying fat asson normal though
>>736261894Jill has more inventory, lockpick, and a grenade launcher.Chris's only real benefit is that he has a lighter at all times, and slightly more health (which doesn’t really matter)
>>736261894Yes, she has two additional inventory slots and Barry's presence in the mansion lets you obtain the Shotgun earlier than Chris plus she gets the grenade launcher. The trade off is she takes fewer hits than Chris so if you find yourself constantly dying then it might be worth starting over as Chris.
>>736260440Kill the ones that are hard to avoid, it's that easy>>736260919It's really not that hard.
>>736260440There's no rule to it, it's a judgement call. If you have a wide berth and can easily avoid them, you might as well. If they're in a part of the mansion you travel through frequently, you might want to for convenience. I dointt you could softlock yourself. Even if you turned every possible zombie into a crimson head, you could theoretically evade them all still, though that's not necessary. You'd still have enough bullets to kill a lot of them over again and secure safe routes.
>>736260440use the map to figure out where your most traveled routes are going to be and focus on keeping those clear
thanks for all the tips guys, i'll keep this thread in mindbtw, is original RE1 easier than the remake just because of no crimson heads? provided u don't use modern controls on the remake I guess, it would make it easier i think vs tank, even wtih crimson heads, might be wrong tho
>>736263870RE1 is considerably easier. I played it during the pandemic for the first time and was ready to have a bad time because everywhere I went, people would say how outdated and janky it is. Finished it in one afternoon.
>>736260440FUCK JILL VALENTINE
>>736263870The original is easier, though I think director’s cut changed some things besides the music?I think the difficulty ranking of classic RE for the first playthrough would be>3 > 1R > 1 > 2and I never played Code Veronica or 0. 1R has a mode where every enemy becomes invisible and that’s the basically hardest thing in all the games in general.
>>736266086Only the dualshock version changed the music
>>736266086why is 3 harder than 2? nemesis?
>>736266227Yes plus the puzzles and enemies are randomized
>>736266447I wonder how people dealt w the puzzles in this game back before the internetLike does the manual have tips or solutions? If not or u didn't have it what then, just stuck till u find a way by word of mouth or go online somewhere to check?
>>7362662273 speeds up and beefs up the baseline zombies, has more aggressive enemies in general that ask a bit more of the new dodge mechanic that can be rather finicky at the best of times, asks you to micromanage gunpowder a lot which can be a bitch for inventory management, randomizes certain enemy spawns, items and certain puzzle solutions per playthrough so you can't reliably master every step of a run consistently, and was generally built like a game for those who played 1 and 2 already. And that's before getting into Nemesis, who you can avoid most of the game if you know what you're doing, but fighting him for the upgrade parts is damn hard since he's a sprinting Tyrant with a rocket launcher in certain segments, and all the hell that entails for classic RE.
>>736266584fair enoughI've beaten re2 remake, but don't think it was very hard at all, looking to get into the classic games now, I think I've heard 0 is the hardest
>>736266570I used a pen and paper to go through some of them, or ask a friend of mine who was into the same games as me
>>736261358>what even is the point of thatMore pointless tedium in a remake chock full of pointless tedium.
>>7362668820 is hard because of bullshit, really. Horribly unfair enemy spawns designed to jump you with cheap damage or bad auto-aim targeting, no item box so you have to trade everything between the two characters really awkwardly and cumbersome-like, which also means what ammunition and healing they have for six slots each on top of key items, and then Rebecca is made of absolute tissue paper where even basic enemies can kill her the fastest of all RE protagonists in terms of raw HP values on a standard difficulty. And if you're not careful with AI follow/act commands, the AI is not afraid to exhaust every single bullet as fast as possible on nearby threats. It's all really just bad design rather than true challenge, and unlike most of the bitchy complaining about some other games in the series or some schizos being werid about the classics in general, generally everyone but a limited few outliers agree 0 is badly designed.
This game is easy. Im not saying that to big dick around like im some "real gamer" or something. Id never be able to finish Demons Souls, but its an easy game and you dont need to worry. On normal you can kill everything twice over. The only difficult tank control games are 0 and Code Veronica, I wouldn't blame you for using a guide for those.>>736260919I legitimately had more problems with Resident Evil Requiem.
>>736267902Remake is hard as fuck on real survival mode, you should try it.
Christ, the average gamer is so fucking dumb.
>when to fightZombie near safe rooms, zombie in a room with 2 or more zombies, zombies when you have kerosrne with you, hunters>when to runSlow zombies, wide rooms with one zombie, clutch feinting zombies>is it possible to soft-lock yourself with those respawning crimson headNo because you can easily kill them with 3 shots of your shotgun, unless you ran out of ammo in which case you are playing bad
>>736268413What's dumb is how badly you want my cock
>>736260440It's simple>Clear a path for the second floor, both east and west wings, from those paths you can safely explore the rest of the mansion, there are some rooms you only need to visit once, so clearing those is pointless, so just take w/e you need, the run out, try to dodge, but taking a hit or spending a defensive item is valid>How am I supposed to know these things on a first playthru? You aren't supposed to, surviving while carefully managing resources while not knowing what to expect ahead is when RE is at its best, it creates such an amazing tense atmosphere
These are the tips I've been looking for. Wasn't sure how to best tackle this game legit. Played on the Cube years ago, but with a ton of cheats
>>736260440The rooms you constantly run back and forth in are the rooms you'll want to kill the zombies. Rooms out of your way that you barely go to just save those zombies so you keep ammo and possibly reduce the chance of a Crimson Head if you ever happen to go back looking for something. There's main hallways I would go through to use the storage box so those zombies I'd kill, either by headshot or burn the body.
>>736260440knife the zombies whenever you can to save ammo
The first headshot after you acquire the shotgun is a guaranteed crit. You can save it for a zombie outside a save room or something you want to permanently remove.
>>736260440>do you have a lot of ammo?>can you safely kill the zombie?if you answered yes then kill it. you're not going to softlock yourself, just run if you can't kill it.
>>736260440You're really overthinking things if you're an adult panicking over this game.If you see a way to run around an enemy, run around it. If you feel like you wasted too many resources, reload the last save, get back to that point in a fraction of the time, and save with far more resources. You can then do whatever until your next save, decide if you could do it more efficiently, and repeat.Unless you suffer from a severe mental disorder, you are not going to soft lock your game.
>>736260919You don't play videogames. RE was never hard the game showers you with supplies>>736266570I'm not one to rag on anyone but this is bad. The games are very straight forward it gives you a map and shows what rooms you haven't been to. I played these games back in 2020 without a guide, videogames aren't for you if you need a guide. Videogames are designed around casuals
>>736260440It's lame how the game stops being survival horror when you leave the mansion the first time. I had like 20 of every ammo type with Jill when the game ended
>>736260440Just kill everythingThere is far more than enough ammo to kill every enemy in the game
>>736260440Brother it's survival, making the decision of clearing but having less resources later, assessing the current and potential later risks is core part of the game. It increases tension. If you would know beforehand what danger awaits it defeats the purpose of the whole game.Wild that this has to be explained.
>>736263870The shotgun got beefed up ins remake. But I believe og Hunters are a thing of the past. Kids will never know the three grenade round can't be stunned version.
>>736260440>how can you tell when to fight and when to runbacktrack routes: cleardeadends: run
>>736260440When you see a zombie or obstacle in your way, check your resources>Ammo>Herbs/health>Defense items>other thingsAnd decide which is better to spend.Yes, health is a resource and sometimes it's better to take the bite and save ammo.Softlocks can't really happen. When you encounter a boss, you can usually run away and gear up for it. The one exception I can think of is the Crimson Head in the coffin but a note warns you to expect a fight.
