To name a few:>VA work is great, but Oersted should either be silent or only have Link-style grunts during Medieval>Song names getting changed around, most notably "Playing with Psychos" but also something like "On Broken Wings">the vignette at the end have Pogo and Gori run across with their regular sprites instead of unique sprites like SFCand other assorted stuff like that. Stuff that, by and large, either will go unnoticed or be of minimal consequence, but it just rubs me the wrong way. There's the larger conversation to be had about the localization but it's been done to death, so there's no need to relitigate it.

I recommend it for being unique, it is something Square Enix will probably never make another game quite like it again. The best way to describe it is a "Arthouse Experience". Anything they make like this in the future will be more like Octopath. As a game I personally enjoyed Octopath more. Octopath 2 is the better version of the game. You don't need to play the first game for the story. There are references to it but its not important.

I never played the demake so I can't speak for any dialogue they changed or added, but in the OG, it felt like he had no real interest in Alicia during the tourney, he just wanted to win because he wanted to be the best. He could have thrown the fight to Straybow to let him get with Alicia, since Straybow actually did want her, but it comes across that Orsted didn't. I question on whether his love for Alicia is even legit at all, as it just seems like something he's forcing himself to do because he feels like he has to. I hate to use this example, but Orsted as a "RPG hero deconstruction" is kinda like that shit in Undertale, where they say "you do it because you can, and because you can, you have to/must". Like he's driven to do the shit he does because "he's the hero". He HAS to win the tournament, he HAS to kill the demon lord, he HAS to marry the princess, etc. because that's what "the hero" has to do. That's why when he kills the king, it's such a shock, because Straybow and/or Odio tricked him into doing so, and it's not something he as "the hero" would do. When he kills Odio'd-Straybow and Alicia fucking shanks herself, he's got nothing left to live for by convention. He lost his friends, his designated love interest, the world hates him and thinks of him as a villain because he got tricked and killed the king, so while he could have just gone into hiding and lived alone somewhere, much like Hash did when people were afraid of him, he again takes the path that he feels is "designated" to take. If the world thinks he's a villain, then he figures "I might as well be the villain then." Even when he uses "Saint Alicia" as an attack it's like "oh, I HAVE to dedicate this power to her, and literally idolize her because of her tragedy".It's less of a tragedy overall and just him being a dumb cunt and not thinking for himself. Same with Alicia being a dumb cunt.

But nope, Orsted chooses to be the archetype of the "classic [yes / no] hero" cliche, even though he is perfectly capable of talking. Ironically, even his decision to talk at the end is less of a "moment of awakening" and just a cliche in itself, because the fucking DQ1 hero does the exact same shit. Ironically, the DQ1 hero chooses NOT to succeed the king and rule the land, but rather says "If I'm going to be a king, I would rather venture elsewhere and establish a kingdom of my own making." He's even willing to walk away from the princess (who he doesn't even have to save if the player chooses not to) until she stops him, and then she goes with him instead of convincing him to stay after all. The fucking trope establisher himself is less of a cliche then Orsted, and that's both sad and stupid. Orsted, by proxy, is more like those who wanted to grab some of that DQ money and made similar copycat RPGs which did fall to the cliches that he himself did, because "that's what you're supposed to do".
