Give me some of your knowledge /v/I've been thinking of getting either a PSP or a Nintendo DS, unfortunately the Vita and the 3DS are being sold for a ridiculous price, so I won't buy neither of those.Considering what can be played on both consoles, which one do you guys consider the superior choice ? The PSP or the DS ?
>>736264106Emulating whatever you want to play. It's not like you want to play anything though. You're just some retard getting the itch to CONSOOM.
>>736264106For as much as I liked the PSP, I think the DS is the better option here.
PSP if you plan to hack it.A perfectly good 3001 can emulate everything up to the PSX, using sony's built-in emulator. Meaning that you have an extra gen available on the palm of your hands compared to the DS plus all the good PSP games.
>>736264106well PSP means most of the PS1 library, thats pretty hard to beatcounterpoint: the DS has TWEWYget both if you can
>>736264106Not much reason to get either unless you've nostalgia for the hardware itself and lost your originals over the years.I guess if I had to choose I'd go for ds, because of the double screen. Psp had much more functionality back in the day when everyone didn't have phones that did everything that you can imagine
>>736264189I want to have a portable console you acephalous monkey, otherwise I would use my pc to emulate stuff.
>>736264106Both are going to be expensive when tiktok decides to buy those next. Might as well buy both while you still can.
>>736264392Do you have a better idea for a portable console ? I just want something compact to play games, and I have some doubts about these "portable pcs" with emulators
>>736264959how compact are we talking about?the steam deck is great but it sure aint a pocket carry
>>736264959No, sorry. Not really into that market of things
>>736265070The more compact the better, I like the steam deck but I already have my own pc, so I don't see a reason to buy a big device like the deck.I would like to get something close to the size of the Vita.
>>736264390>the DS has TWEWYThis is one of those games I simply do not see the appeal of at all. I assume everyone likes it for things that aren't the gameplay, because playing it was pure torture.
>>736264349PSP suffers on some SNES titles
>>736264106get the psp to play psx/ps1 gamesget vita if you want persona/doushin machine
>>736266047I despise Persona games (with the exception of Persona 2), so I won't even think of getting the Vita anymore
>>736266635fair enough, get the hardware asap before zoomer/alphas take over muh retro!
>>736266967I am a zoomer anon....Forgive me
>>736266635remember the vita lets you play all those vanillaware games plus having monhun with an extra joystick is always a plus
Ds is fine but the psp has far more options with ps1 backwards compatibility and emulation
>>736264959Nigga go to the retro handheld general in /vr/, it's literally a whole ass market segment. Just pick a form factor and get one that emulates everything instead of buying an old and outdated DS/PSP that's literally way too old now.
>>736267276i mean the poser/larper tiktokkidz
>>736264106I bought a ps vita to emulate psp games and it was miserableI can't imagine a psp would feel better but emulated with a controller is immensely more enjoyable
Psp is on a similar processor to the ps1 so the games play almost like on a real ps1. You can also connect a ps3 controller to it and plug it into a TV
>>736267679I thought the Vita could play PSP games natively slightly better than the PSP itself, that's a shame.
>>736267747I only tried 2 games (nfs underground rivals and thug 2 remix) so ymmv they just felt horribly stiff on hardware and way more enjoyable with a proper controllerthat said a deck or whatever chink handheld that mimics it would probably be the best portable approach
>>736267679what are you talking aboutPSP games run fine on a vita
>>736267854not talking about performance
>>736267640Anon.....
>>736264106People play the psp? It was useless back in the day. I think I still have mine in my parents attic. How much could I get for it?
>>736264106A Steam Deck so you can play both.
>>736268067The preference is something that truly fits inside a pocket, or at least isn't huge like the Steam Deck/Switch 1 & 2
>>736264106Unless you get a great deal, you are probably better off getting a chinkheld than a psp.
>>736264106Your phone.
>>736264106get a chinkheld250 bucks gets you a handheld that plays everything up to ps2, some switch and pc games
buy whichever console you think has the better exclusives. u can also buy a chinkheld and play games from all 3 of those consoles, 3ds/ds/psp. vita emulation isn't there yet. im predisposed to psp cuz I grew up playing it so that would be my recommendation.
>>736268674Does the Vita have any good exclusives ? Because I'm looking at some chink handhelds, and they're looking quite attractive overall, so losing Vita games doesn't seen like a big loss for me
>>736268843Look up vita3k's compatability for the vita games you like. While vita3k is far from complete, it has a decent list. If you get a higher end handheld, it should be able to run vita3k.
>>736268843uncharted, killzone and wipeout. the only first party exclusives I care about. its going to be different for you so you're gonna have to look at the list of exclusives yourself. the list isn't that big so it shouldn't take that long.
>>736268661I thought chinkhelds were cockblocked in running android only, without being able to at least install Linux
>>736269604you can boot into linux and even windows, it just goes back to android if you reboot
>>736264106both are easily hackable now get the one with the games you want to play
>>736264106I would go with the Nintendo DSi XL.It has a 3D Mario game, and you can get a multicart for it.
>>736265416Forgive the zoomer video, but if you want a worse but smaller deck there's a $399 Emulation handheld that can play some Steam gameshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PgBPSloOWw
>>736264189Consooming used products is more sustainable though, you must admit.
>>736264106It's kind of like comparing apples to oranges. They're both great but do different things. The DS has a lot of fun gimmicks with the dual screens and touch screen, but the PSP is a portable powerhouse when hacked. In my opinion, I would probably go with a hacked PSP. Not only do you get PSP games, but most of the PS1 library as well. After a while you'll wish it had a second stick though. I know you said the Vita is out of the question, but when hacked, it can do everything a hacked PSP can do. It even has a PSP mode you can boot up.
>>736271346The problem is that people are selling the Vita for quite an steep price versus the PSP, so I don't see a reason to get one
>>736272015Fair enough. Most of my handhelds are hacked and I'm just a little biased towards the Vita, I love that little thing.
DS library mogs the PSP, but the PSP is much better for emulation.I would just emulate the PSP and grab a DS for the exclusives, but both are great handhelds.
>>736264106if you get a psp just understand that your battery will pop
>>736264106I would recommend the DS because certain games like The World Ends With You and 999 are best played on the DS due to how they take advantage of the handheld dual screen format. Any PSP games you want to play can be emulated on your computer without missing out on anything. I think the DS has a better library anyway, but you might have different taste in games. If you get a DSi, you can install custom firmware and load any DS or DSiWare games on it. I don't think there's custom firmware for the DS Lite but you can buy a flashcart. Some GBA flashcarts probably work too. Avoid the original fat DS. >>736265649>playing it was pure torture.git gud
>>736264429Just get a Steam Deck and emulate
>>736272771I refuse to believe anyone actually enjoys TWEWY for the gameplay, actually I know for a fact they don't.
I might be autistic but I refuse to play home console games on a portable device and vice versa. Playing PS1 on a PSP just feels wrong. But playing GBA on a DS is great.
>>736272845Is it really that bad ?
>>736273881It's the equivalent of button mashing nonsense but on your touch screen. It even has some incomprehensible DDR minigame on the top screen everyone just sets to auto and ignores. Even the developers knew this shit was stupid.
>>736264106uncless you want to play music and videos off of your portable gaming console, the dsi xl is the superior choice.
You might think a PSP or DS is a lot cheaper than a 3DS or Vita but remember you probably want it to be in good condition and some of those things have been around for over 20 years.
>>736264106Back then it was new I bought a PSP but traded it in for a DS lite because it had more games I wanted to play. Take that for what you will. The DS lite is a really nice handheld if you can get it. The normal DS is a bit chunky.
>>736274504The clamshell design of the DS should mean it will be in better condition generally as it's built in screen and button protection.
>>736274632The DS huge's touch screen is fucking garbage though and will definitely have loads of giant dead pixels unless it was replaced.
>>736274717Maybe so. I haven't seen mine in years but it all worked last time I did lol.
>>736274632Shouldn't the DS clamshell design actually make it more frail ? After opening and closing the DS multiple times, it should be a little more worn out after usage no ?
>>736275383The metal hinges actually holding the screens together were usually fine but the plastic supports for them could break so the top screen would feel loose. The DS lite was especially prone to breaking under normal use.
>>736272836>deck>portablelolMaybe if you have Jnco cargo pants from the 90's
