Most of this game is just watching animations and reading textboxes, I don't get it.
>>
>>736265807
No, seriously. I think half this game's budget went to animating dance moves.

Still, I enjoyed it.

I do get filtered by games that don't have interesting gameplay.

This is a glorified point and click adventure game. Aka a visual novel with some gameplay. Like 999, Ace Attorney, Danganronpa. It's perhaps my favorite genre of games. Visual novels are too slow and boring, but games too focused on gameplay are too repetitive. This is the perfect balance.

And I don't get why someone wouldn't "get the point". The point is to enjoy a stellar 10/10 story. Which is what Ghost Trick delivers, perhaps moreso than any other game in the genre. Did you play until the end? Did you at least play until the guy in prison shows his painting? I think this is the moment the switch flips for most people.
>>
>>736266178
I "played" it for like an hour and was bored out of my mind.
>>
>>736266270
It's a VN, that's the thing, the puzzles are scripted
>>
>>736266270
Why are you bored? Don't you want to solve the mystery? Find how Sissel died? How to save everyone?

This game is an extremely competent mystery story. You can trust that the solution to its mysteries is mindblowing.

If you can't feel entertained by a mystery despite knowing that you're in the good hands of a very competent author, well, then the genre is clearly not for you. You need to be invested while playing this. Don't get me wrong it is absolutely a casual game, you don't need to tryhard to enjoy it, but you also can't just turn off your brain and play it without caring about the characters.
>>
>>736265807
Let me guess, you've never read a mystery novel?
>>
Ok, seriously, what are you "I don't like reading" fags definition of fun?
Do you even have fun at all with something?
Or is your definition of fun just posting shit and getting (you)'s?
>>
>>736266442
>Why are you bored?
Because for every minute of gameplay there's 15+ minutes of textboxes and animations. It's crazy that seemingly everyone but me is just okay with sitting there idle most of the time while playing a game.
>>
>>736266665
>anon plays a hybrid between puzzle-adventure and visual novel
>gets angry that the game has lots of dialogue
many such cases

get filtered fag
>>
>>736266848
Again I've seen so many people say it's one of their favorite games of all time, when most of the game is not even playing.
>>
>>736266926
Because the story is mindblowing good. Maybe you should think more of it as a book that is occasionally interactive than a game. If you let the lack of gameplay get on the way of your enjoyment you'll be missing on one of the greatest stories ever told.
>>
@736266926
its because you need a basic degree of literacy to understand how gameplay and story tie together. if reading hurts your brain then it wasnt made for you

Just to complement on other anons part of what makes this game genius is that it later on deconstructs its own gameplay and breaks the fourth wall through it. I won't say further because it'd involve spoilers, but this game does not neglect gameplay, it just prioritizes quality over quantity.

>>
>>736267130
Its not really 4th wall breaking but I do think its genius how crucial parts of the mystery are hidden in the gameplay segments of the game and relate to how the player interacts with the ghost world mechanics.
>>
>>736267267
I went into this game with an open mind because I heard it was one of the best.

How can you call yourself open minded when you dont even pay attention to the text in the game? Youre like me when I was younger. I thought all cutscenes were "filler" and skipped them when I could but when I grew up and became more patient I found out that paying attention to the story makes the whole experience of playing the game way more fun. Ghost Trick was a commercial flop because it filters people that just want instant gratification from their games instead of putting in the effort to invest themselves into the game on a deeper level. Real masterpieces require effort on the part of the audience to be fully enjoyed.

It is one of the best, but if you're a low attention span fag who can't into reading then I don't know what to tell you. The storytelling is a huge part of why it's so great.

>I went into this game with an open mind
No you haven't. If you went in with an open mind you wouldn't be complaining about story in a story-driven game.
>>
>>736267607
It's not so much the amount of text, it's the pacing of it. Most of the game the "player" is literally just sitting there making no impact on the game itself.
>>
>>736268221
Ghost Trick is brilliantly paced with how it steadily it feeds the player new clues to the central mystery. The story never meanders and keeps moving at a great pace which keeps the player interested.
>Most of the game the "player" is literally just sitting there making no impact on the game itself.
Ghost Trick is not a CRPG. You just seem to be bored because youre too impatient to read the good dialogue instead of doing the bing bing wahoo.

>bought the Steam release because I feel bad for contributing to the game's failure back during launch by pirating it
>worse controls than the DS version
I guess it's to be expected for a port of game that originally had touch controls and 2 (two) screens. The portability also added a lot to the game's original appeal.
>>
>>736268591
If the gameplay is so tertiary to the experience, why not just look up a longplay? Why even play the game?

Because figuring out the puzzles yourself is fun?
>>
>>736265807
it's not for you
it's meant to be enjoyed by a different type of person
>>
>>736268997
Sometimes it's nice to use your brain Anon. Instead of passively consuming media to whittle away the limited time you have on earth.
>>
Because solving the puzzles yourself and watching a longplay are completely different? Besides, theres optional dialogue and clues to the mystery that you can only pick up on by playing the game yourself.
When you read the dialogue and watch the cutscenes, its still from the perspective of a player. You do it from the perspective of a passive viewer because you think that the story isnt part of the game somehow. What youre doing is like getting bored at tabletop RPGs because the dungeonmaster is telling a story and setting up the scenario but you think the only thing that matters is rolling the dice like a retard.
>>
>>736265807
I’m just glad I wasn’t spoiled by the time I played it
>>
>>736269574
>Because solving the puzzles yourself and watching a longplay are completely different?
The puzzles are such a minor aspect of the game I fail to see how.
>>
>>736269109
very true, I fucking hate it
>>
>>736269675
Maybe because youre a retard? You cant progress the story or gather new info without solving the puzzles. Calling it a minor aspect is wrong by every definition. Solving a puzzle yourself and watching someone else show you the solution are also completely different, unless you mean to confess that you looked up a walkthrough while playing.
>>
>>736269947
>Calling it a minor aspect is wrong by every definition.
Actually interacting with the game has to be less than 10% of the runtime. It's objectively a minor aspect.
>>
>>736267391
its actually just trial and error the game. the main character is a hecking cat twist in any other game would be called retarded storytelling
>>
>>736269990
This could be a true statement if they were optional. They arent. If you ignored the puzzles you couldnt finish the game. Youre being objectively retarded.
>>
>>736270119
Optional or not, something that comprises very little of the actual time spent playing is objectively a minor aspect.
>>
>>736265807
>gun and ball gamers
>>
>>736270162
You mean crossing the finish line is a minor aspect of the race? You mean scoring goals is a minor aspect of soccer?
>>
>>736270401
Yes, there's a lot more that goes into those sports than those exact moments.
>>
>>736270474
Oh dear. I think you might really be a little slow in the head. Try to think very hard about what those other things that go into those sports are focused on.
>>
>>736270937
"Playing" Ghost Trick is like if Soccer consisted of walking up to the goal slowly and freely kicking the ball in every 30 minutes.
>>
>>736271043
If you look up a walkthrough, sure? Otherwise you have to figure out the solution yourself which is where the challenge lies. Theyre not exactly free.
>>
>plays a vn puzzle game
>complains about the time spent on storytelling
go play zachtronics or baba is you, they're more up your alley
>>
This game was worth playing just for The Last Desperate Struggle.
>>
>>736265807
It's a fun little easy puzzle game tied to a VN. If you don't want either of those, skip it.
