I feel like the original intention was the opposite. It was a genre where you just give orders and sit back, you dont have to do the work yourself. so its supposed to be comfy.
Boomer programmers really struggled with pathfinding and unit AI so you needed to micromanage your units like crazy to do anything efficiently.
>>736268835>It was a genre where you just give orders and sit back, you dont have to do the work yourself. so its supposed to be comfy.Did you play any of the campaigns in AoE 2?
>>736268835
An appeal of RTS was just growing your civilization/base.
>>736268835>Its kind of strange that RTS turned into an intensive and high skilled genreHow is rushing high skilled?
What other RTS scratch that comfy itch that AoE2 did?
My annoyance with modern RTS is how they completely ignore realistic weapon ranges
>>736269521Anno 1602.
>>736269521>>736268835For me its Majesty. More about that laid back style. Also Rise of Nations.
>>736268909I did. But man, they're a lot harder than I remembered now that I don't use pause commands.Like, god damn, the second Joan scenario, the first real game after the tutorial and no-build scenario and it's a 1v3. Hell of a way to start the campaigns.Attila campaign is comfy in comparison.
>>736268835>It was a genre where you just give orders and sit backthis was literally never the case in AoE2 or even AoE1
>>736269310hi, I'm one of those weirdos that only plays single playerI just like structured campaign missions with unique maps and objectives. "random map go kill the other guy" isn't very fun for me. and I suck at aggression
>>736269405sim city fans getting confused about the genre theyre playing be like
Why does no one ever speak about AoE3?
>>736268835Another relaxing genre ruined by Blizzard you say?
>>736269524>graphics will never get better than this
The thing with genres like RTS is that the appeal to normalfags, especially in the modern era where anyone can just download time wasting garbage like Vampire Survivors for 3 dollars and play that for 100 hours, is just not there. That leads to devs focusing on hardcore players, which in turn decreases the already small pool of casual players. Those casuals then turn around and bitch despite the fact that 99.99% of casuals would never play the game in question no matter how easy or approachable it is.

How do I beat Prince Kassad in Generals on hard mode? I can't even do it using the superweapons chick ;_;
>>736269743SOVL
>>736269743>blood texture>ON THE BODY
>>736269661Not worth talking about. Too streamlined. It's the only RTS I've played where I can play on the hardest difficulty while listening to video in the background. It's what happens when you can make 5 units at a time, so no need to spam barracks, and can build both food and gold farms, so no econ micro.
Fight the opponent, not the UI.
>>736268835Two decades ago when I first played AoE2, I got my ass handed to me in the tutorial stage. You actually have to think when playing this game, as in infantry aren't good for breaking down walls and that you have to accept that your soldiers will die if you send them to attack something.
>>736269661It's just worse than AoE2 in most ways.
>>736268835It was never meant to be multiplayer, and still isn't. Multiplayer causes scumbag try hard to literally break and ruin the mechanics in ways they weren't designed for in order to speedrun matches. RTS is a genre designed for campaigns and fighting bots, and to be a somewhat laid back and relaxing genre.
>>736269661I've always liked it, but mostly because I have a major soft spot for the colonial period and musket warfare. It also had some awesome TECHNOLOGY aspects for an RTS from 20 years ago, like destructible buildings and randomly. But it was never as good as AoE2 and most people don't appreciate the setting as much as I do.
>>736270473>randomlyRagdolls* Dumb autocorrect
>>736269894Zero-K would be a lot better if its balance was more stable. It's yet another game that sees constant +5/-1 changes without having time for a genuine meta to develop.
>>736268835>War>comfy
>>736271224In a world of content creators this is no longer true. They sell your game to people.

>>736268835Its the sorta genre that sweats got into co-opted then turned the game into something only enjoyed by the 1%Its why the moba genre came into existance, its just a toned down version of rts, 0 resource management or building just a handful of units being controlled.
>>736271224>casuls are /v/edditorsWe know
>>736270578I don't think this applies at all. Most people do their own thing regardless of whether there are any balance changes or not. People adapt in 1-2 matches.
>>736271123War is extremly comfy for the most part. But don't worry, you get drafted soon enough.
I play these games exactly like that.Just sit back, relax, collect resources, amass an army and attack move towards enemy base.Kino.
>>736269639You are not a weirdo for prefering singleplayer, especially post early/mid 2000's. Now every other faggot has some hack or an exploit, like FOW remover or whatever, that completely kills the fun of multiplayer. Unless you have friends that you can play with, just avoid it.
>>736272524>a handfulI don't play assfaggots, but I do know they only control one unit and it looks boring.
Korea did irreparable damage to the RTS genre>just sit in your base clicking build orders really, really fast until you can finally go out in to the map and win da map
>>736273135Compfags ruin every genre this is universal
>>736273135>>just sit in your baseAlready wrong
>>736273135You could have stopped it.
Play BAR now
>>736273319This is retarded cope, if this was true then why do RTS with single player focus sell three copies as well?>>736269727 is right
Zero-K is the purest form of RTS. Play Zero-K instead of BAR.
>>736272562How old are you?
>>736273372All the most popular RTS games right now are singleplayer focused
>>736273510What does "popular" mean hereIf they're "popular" then why are spergs still complaining about the genre being niche?
>>736273567>Shitskin doesn't understand english
>>736273567Warcraft 3 is the most popular RTS of all time and no gave a shit about the multiplayer unless it was custom games
>>736273648I'm asking can you get that popularity NOW by making a strong singleplayer focused RTS. From my understanding it seems like you can't. Therefor, the issue has to do with the fundamental gameplay itself.
>>736268909>>736269602Joan campaign isn't THAT hard is it?I never touch the multiplayer because that skillset is something that never interested me, and I found the campaigns about as easy as any in old RTS games.
>>736273714>What is Total War?Fuck you're retarded
>>736273650>plebbit
>>736273841Why do you fags keep bitching about RTS being niche then?
>>736274072>Retarded shitskin doesn't understand contextIf you're the strongest guy in your neighborhood why are you complaining that there are stronger guys in your country amirite?
>>736274117Millions of copies sold isnt niche
>>736273332>Supreme Commander without any of the aestheticMight as well replace the visuals with coordinates. How can you faggots enjoy this shit? There's minimalist and then there's BAR.
>>736268835StarCraft is literally a title describing a game that doesn’t take skill. A “craft” is like a “trade” or a job. And a star is something you wish on. So, it’s like a way to say you wish it was a job. So that’s compelling evidence that you’re wrong, and the RTS genre stopped being played because they added too many gay units plus kept making more expansions even though everyone’s poor as fuck because you have to actually grow shit in dirt to make it into something. Not all of us got dirt, if I try growing my own ps5 somebody is going to steal my dirt because I can’t defend it. They got all the guns.
>>736268835Comptrannies killed it. I always play it like some sort of medieval sim city with the ocasional skirmish.
>>736274381>my PS5
>>736274381It’s really just a might is right scenario. If I had more guns, I could take some dirt and grow a field filled with ps5s. But they got the guns and grow their own ps5s and then try to sell it to me. And they claim we all get more this way. It’s a huge joke, they only say that because they got the dirt for now. And they’re holding onto it for dear life, but sooner or later that dirts gonna come my way.
>>736269580Majesty is very fun. Also about the only one of these kind of games I've really enjoyed. Normally I prefer stuff like Caesar 3 or HoMM3.
i wish they'd buff handcannoneers
>>73627226799.9999% of hardcore players are not good enough. It's not a wall of cope, it's self reflection. If you don't like it, fine, but that's reality. He's correct, players are mostly casuals and if you want to SELL a game because you're running a BUSINESS then you need to understand that making yet another online hardcore focused RTS is retarded and a waste of time. Nobody cares how many matches you win or how high your APM is. Sure if you get on stage somebody out there might raise an eyebrow but unless you win, and win consistently, that attention isn't going to last longer than a few minutes.
>>736272267>There literally is a cash prize if you're good enough. There aren't enough tournaments for that cash price to not average around minimal wage and that's when you're consistently in top3, this is the main reason a lot of "pros" turned into content creators or phased out into normal jobs, the juice isn't worth the squeeze.
People who keep arguing about singleplayer vs multiplayer have internalized enshitification. RTS games didn’t have to pick which one to focus on, because they just used to have both. You could have your awesome singleplayer and robust multiplayer in one game. But then western AAA games didn’t have dev abandoned PC gaming in the late 00s and everything that couldn’t be streamlined to work on a Playstation or Xbox the way shooters were got axed. StarCraft 2 was the last big RTS success story because it was the last RTS with a budget.
What am I in for
>>736272267>I get paid to play?I'm not sure how anyone who isn't a child can't do the math and realize that the amount of time you need to invest in any of these things puts it at or below any job you could have even assuming you always win / achieve optimal success
