Honest opinion of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door?
>>736269192I think it's a decent length game that has a lot of fun moments and just the right amount of difficulty
>>736269192Good game
Good game, too much backtracking.Next question.
Fun game. Has a few problem sections but still a good time.>>736269282It's way too easy. I recommend some gameshark codes to tweak the difficulty. I can't remember exactly what I ran but I think it was like 1.5x enemy HP and 2x enemy damage, or something like that. Also this mod to uncensor the script is great https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3092/
>>73626919210/10, Purchased a $99 new gamecube back in the day just to play it.If you want to play it today, just emulate the gamecube version, the new shiny remaster is godawful.
>>736269192Amazing! I think of it as a gold standard RPG, although nowadays I play stuff more like Trails and Octopath Traveler.
>>736269267Sex-hating, puritanical social conservatives were right about everything and Vivian being made into a biological female in the original game's localization was the right move. Portraying a crossdresser as an attractive, passing woman is not appropriate for children regardless of whatever culture/country they're from and is a direct slippery slope into transgenderism.
Good but its foundation is weak. You play it for the adventure, the dialogue, whatever new setpiece is coming up next, but the gameplay itself is just mid combat and walking around.
Goombella is made for kissing and hugging and marriage
Less of a 'grand' adventure than Paper Mario 1. There's more backtracking than I remember but it's still quite a good game.
>>736269192"Whoa! That's a lot of back tracking with some bad level design."
>>736269467Crossdressing men who are confident and comfortable in their own bodies, without drugs or lying to themself that they're actually woman are the antidote to transgenderism, not propaganda for it. Almost all the people who fell for transgenderism would rather have become Vivian than the mutilated freaks they are now, but that path was never shown to them, it was hidden both by puritan conservatives and rabid queer activists.Rather than making Vivian a biological female, the ideal way to improve the message of his character would be to show him as more accepting of his masculine side, maybe even giving him a scene out of costume to highlight that enjoying crossdressing doesn't make him any less of a man.
>>736269192Good game, but I really wish super guard just mitigated 2 points of damage instead of outright nulling it. Its the same problem that E33 has in that if you git gud at the timing, it breaks the point of it being a turn based game and you dont have to build. I like bug fable's higher mitigation better
>>736270569I really like that game, are they working on a sequel or successor?
>>736270718They said they want to make another game before considering a sequel but it has been years of radio silence
>>736270832As it should be with any good indie dev I suppose, but I am curious.
It's a really good teen's game, but sadly it's too simple and easy for adults to find it challenging. The remake just looks and sounds a little worse, despite higher resolution. Are there any good mods for TTYD? Bonus points if they're harder.
>>736269192Good game, shame they ended the series instead of making a sequel
>>736269192It used to be my favorite, but the fans have kinda driven discourse into the ground.
>>736270901You could try self imposed challenges, pre hooktail 100 trials should work for you.
>>736270424It's a fetish, anon. The fetish, the act of crossdressing, is not a part of your identity that you learn to accept like your height or face. It's easy for crossdressers to feel like cute traps when they're young but as they get older, they will look creepy and ridiculous and in no way resemble Vivian even if they stayed in shape and took no drugs. Crossdressing is an inherently weird, disordered form of behavior that calls into question a man's happiness and mental health because if he truly was confident and comfortable in his body, he'd wear clothes that were designed to accentuate his masculine form.
>>736271473I don't disagree. It is a fetish, Vivian is not normal, and the things he does may make others uncomfortable, but characters like that are not bad, especially not in a game made for teens. He fits right in with characters like Flurrie or the pianta parlor boos. Especially in a game made for teens, I don't think games should shy away from weird content, especially since most people are weird in one way or another. >AgingThe same could be said for a lot of fashion. Should we stop putting bikinis in video games because women will eventually crest the hill? >Crossdressing is an inherently weird, disordered form of behavior that calls into question a man's happiness and mental health because if he truly was confident and comfortable in his body, he'd wear clothes that were designed to accentuate his masculine form.I actually agree, which is why I think modern men's fashion is such a travesty. The right girly clothes actually do a far better job of accentuating a masculine form than normal casual wear, especially for men with the right body type for it.
>>736269192Honestly my favorite RPG ever. It's has a fun charming world, great combat, and a great story. I still can't believe they refuse to give us another proper Paper Mario game.
>>736269192I like it.I think the remake is the best nu-Paper Mario has ever looked but I don't really care for remakes in general so I haven't played it. And I never will because Vivian is my one of my favorite partners in the game, second only to Bobbery.
>>736272628Same boat. We can never hate localizers enough.
>>736272285>He fits right in with characters like Flurrie or the pianta parlor boos.Flurrie is a perfectly healthy woman, embodies positive traits like being motherly, and her "nudity" is not treated as something positive or even acknowledged so that no impressionable kid can come away even humoring the prospect of public indecency. The boos also fall into a similar category where their simplistic and nonsexual designs and the thing it references are all done in a way that is clearly a joke. It looks funny and cute to children who are hopefully unfamiliar with the reference and late teens/adults will find it hilarious. Vivian is given human-like qualities which makes you relate to her, explicitly introduces the topic of crossdressing, and it is treated as nonchalantly at worst and positively at best by showing that you can look cute and that anyone who criticizes you is a mean bigot.
Really solid game, but much shorter than I remember it being. I feel like I spent a week on the Glitz Pit chapter as a kid but when I replayed it I was almost shocked at how quickly it was over.
>>736273067That's probably because when you were a kid you dedicated five hours to beating up RAAAAAWK HAAAAAAWK over and over in order to make the most of that kickass theme song.
>>736269192I played it when I was 15 or so and thought it was incredible, one of the best games ever made. I played the remake 20 years later and I thought it was a great game, didn't like it as much as when I was a teenager, but that's to be expected. I'll probably never play it again. I like that the battles are more like little tactical puzzles and not as much about stats.
>>736272842>Wailing and inconsolable over a piece of jewelry>Forcibly kisses strangers who clearly don't want it.I wasn't talking about the nudity.>Vivian is given human-like qualities which makes you relate to her, explicitly introduces the topic of crossdressing, and it is treated as nonchalantly at worst and positively at best by showing that you can look cute and that anyone who criticizes you is a mean bigot.Again, I mostly agree. Having a crossdressing character in the main cast of a game, and not commenting on what is healthy crossdressing vs unhealthy crossdressing is why I find Vivian a weaker character than Naoto or original Bridget. What makes the difference between a character with negative crossdressing vs a character with positive crossdressing is how much they accept themself. A character who crossdresses to run away from something they ought to confront is one that should be called out by the story.Vivian doesn't really fall on either side. He never acknowledges himself as a boy, is harshly hurt by it when called out by his sisters but is okay when mario and his friends do it. Generally I think it airs towards positive crossdressing since he's only hurt by people directly bullying him about it and nobody treats him like he's actually a girl including the menus, but the ambiguity is a wasted opportunity and is exactly what allowed him to be redefined as a full blown tranny in total self denial in the remake. I return to my original point that they should've made him more openly confident about being a boy, or given him a moment in the story where he grows to choose to accepting himself for being a boy in ways he didn't before. But I think everyone would like it if all of the partners got more scenes and depth. RPGs should always have personal side quests for party members.
>>736269192It's overrated, but still alright. The music, story and battle system are highlights, but overall the game is weaker than the original Paper Mario. The level design is particularly weak, too many areas are designed like hallways and it makes backtracking tedious.
