If you're getting into baseball, what are the best games you should play and why? I've heard of Backyard Baseball, what it is like?
>>
>>736271637
Mario Superstar Baseball is the best baseball video game. Backyard Baseball is okay, too, I guess.
>>
mlb the show if you have a console
>>
Backyard Baseball is wacky zany baseball that will still give you a general idea of how baseball works. There's really no reason to go back and play older sim games since you have no connection to the era. MLB The Show is pretty much all you have now and it's there if you really want something but I wouldn't recommend it.

If you really want to get into baseball just watch games, preferably with other people that know ball, ask questions. If you want to go to a game in person try minor leagues first and save a bunch of money. Plus it's still a good experience.
>>
>>736271637
Wii Sports is kino. Unfortunately, there isn't a motion control baseball game that's equivalent on the Switch.
>>
>>736272904
How are minor leagues better than just going to a MLB game?
>>
>>736272904
>minor leagues
Major league games can be fun for the spectacle and nice stadiums, but if you actually just want to watch a baseball game up close and don't care about the celebrities, minor leagues are fuckin great. You can usually get decent tickets where you're right up next to things for like 20 bucks with a single-game ticket, compared to majors where that price puts you up in the nosebleeds where you can't see a damn thing and you're just there for the vibe.
>>
>>736273194
Far more affordable and there's more teams so the odds are that you live closer to one of them anyway.
>>
MLB Slugfest 2004
MVP Baseball 2005
Baseball Stars 2
Super Baseball 2020
MLB Power Pros 2008
only MVP 2005 is the sim one, all the other ones are pure arcade fun
>>
>>736271718
it's weird that they've never touched Mario Baseball again

Why would it be bad
>>
>>736271637
Super Mega Baseball is kind of hideous but it plays really well.
>>
is there unironically even a modern audience for baseball anymore? I though it was only popular with the Japs and turbo-unc white Americans
>>
>>736273856
I guess south Americans kinda like it too. That's about it, though.
>>
>>736273005
Seriously what the fuck was Switch Sports.....
All I wanted was Wii Sports + Resort 2 with idk, maybe a Camelot style RPG campaign or some shit.....
>>
>>736273856
>turbo-unc white Americans
What does this even mean?

When is the SVPERIOR GVME getting a video game?
>>
>>736273856
It’s really popular in Mexico for some reason, and the Caribbean countries are big on it too. Korea and Taiwan love it and the aussies have a small league for it too
>>
>>736273974
Banana ball is a great watch 1 time
I have no idea how anyone watches more than like 3 games tops, the gimmick wears off fast
>>
>>736271637
just go to an actual baseball game, get drunk, and pick a fight with someone
>>
>>736273974
I feel like that'd be if NFL Blitz was a baseball game. Kino.
>>
>>736273856
it's doing okay actually. older white people like it, spics like it, asians like it. other than the ghost runner shit it's had some good rule changes in the last few years.
basketball is the sport that's looking fucked right now
>>
>>736273856
Baseball is getting a resurgence in US popularity right now due to recent rule changes.

>>
>>736273713
Nothing is guaranteed anon.
Also there hasn't been a good Backyard Sports game since what, 2001?
>>
>>736273194
The live baseball experience is simply about a day at the ballpark. A beer, a hot dog, sitting in the sunshine.
>>
>>736273947
Switch Sports is fucking great. Sure, I miss boxing and baseball but what’s there is better polished and more fun than either Wii sports game.
>>
>>736274234
>basketball is the sport that's looking fucked right now
What happened with basketball?
>>
I want a cozy game where I can listen to baseball on the radio as I pass the time at my store counter
>>
>>736274362
and it is in fact more comfy at your local minor league team's park. Simple as.
>>
>>736274271
qrd?
>>
>>736274394
metagame became foulbaiting and shooting 3s, refs whistle if anyone gets touched, half the league has given up and is throwing games for draft picks at any given time, gambling is incredibly intrusive and players/managers are actively manipulating the game for prop bets
>>
>>736274384
I respectfully disagree but go off, bro. I didn't know people actually gave a shit about switch sports
>>
>>736274483
Pitch clocks, DH for both leagues, and. A dogshit extras rule where a runner starts on second at the start of their inning
>>
>>736274606
>a runner starts on second at the start of their inning
lol what the fuck
>>
>>736274436
Couldn’t agree more. The epitome of comfy.
>>
>>736274606
>inning starts with a runner on second
I haven't seriously watched baseball in years....are you fucking with me?
>>
>>736274793
it's for extra innings only and not in playoff games
but it's still stupid
>>
>>736274483
what >>736274606 said, but you can also challenge balls and strikes now.
Basically the MLB has been doing whatever they can to make the game faster and higher scoring, kind of like how fighting games are being casualized so that they become more appealing for spectators.

Given how the Switch's Mario sports games ended up, it might be a blessing in disguise that Mario Baseball got skipped. Couldn't be as bad as the way Strikers got sanitized, but why bother when it'll only be kinda good at best?
>>736273856
I'm not big on sports, but if I had to attend something and I got to pick the sport, my first choice would be a baseball game.

Really? Not football or basketball or hockey?
>>
>>736274869
ABS is actually great, ripping on umps for their shit calls makes the game even more fun to watch
>>

I play El Tombo.

Yeah. It clicks with me in a way most other sports just don't do. I don't outright dislike any of those sports you mentioned, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch them. I might watch a game of whatever's on a public TV, but I'm not going home and bringing it up on my own.
>basketball
Alright.
>football
Can be good if the mood is right.
>hockey
Eh.
Tennis is okay, I guess. I think soccer is pretty neat since you can basically see anyone from anywhere, something about that is just novel to me.
Maybe it's the 'tism, maybe I'm just boring, but either way baseball is still my go-to if I'm ever in a situation where I have to engage with a sport. I just like it.
>>
>>736274349
The team behind it clearly has a lot of love and passion for the series, so there's a good chance it could be great. But as you say, nothing is guaranteed.
It also looks like they're going off the 1997 stat lineups for the characters. I preferred the 2001 ones, but I digress.
>>
>>736273194
Minor league games have mistakes happen frequently, so when the the dude cracks a ball that in a MLB game would be an out(bad) 99% of the time, it instead is interesting and tense to watch because some goofy shit could happen which is exciting. also game prices are lower, its usually a smaller cozier venue, and a team having a "good" player in minors matters more because that dude is like noticeably better than the other players vs MLB where they're just like a lil better at one thing.

overall baseball fuckin rules but minor league has more drama and tension while MLB is just raw watching good people be really good at things
