I finished playing Cultic and my only takeaway is this game is really one of those "Unity Shooters"(I'm not forcing a meme, I just hate the term "boomer shooter" - it's fucking gay and pretentious). Anyway, it's one of those "Unity Shooters" that while I appreciate the effort with regards to the level design and some of the sound effects design, I just couldn't get into this game after a while (although I set out to finish it regardless of how I felt) because this game has such a color palette of "dried blood" brown, that it got annoying at times when the game put you in dark environments. Other than that, this game was okay. Would I recommend this? Yes but with the precaution of "it's not a 'Blood' homage as much as it is a RE4 fanboy that made a new game, but if they had the license, this would've been an RE4 tribute FPS game done in Unity."
>>736272301Based take, but I still think that the style it's dripping in is unmistakably a love letter to blood. The TNT, cultists in robes, gunplay and demons, yes RE4 has most of those things too.But what makes Cultic such a good homage is that it's not a clone, it's a new and different game. It's not afraid to be it's own thing at the cost of some mistakes, like the fucking dark moments, but the game tries to make up for that with the lighter and muzzle flash. It's not wrong for Cultic to give nods to other games in the process either.I put it in the same category as Dusk, albeit less silly.
>>736274412>>736272301Its incredibly good.
>>736274412The developer cited RE4 as the main inspiration and then everything else came along later.I would like to see the developer make this game over with a brand new game engine - made original whole cloth - or made with a fork of the BUILD engine. This game is too good to be using Unity. I should mention a bug that I encountered in this game: if you turn down the music and sound fx volume all the way to 0%, you can still hear some sound fx kick in for swinging doors and drafts in hallways. It's very jarring when listening to something else and you have your headphones.
is it released in its entirety yet?I have a pet peeve with games being released per episode and not knowing wether or not it's gonna be finished. If the game is complete(tm) i'll give it a whirl.Anyone enjoyed Incision? I was surprised how complete that felt.

>>736276879Oh it's finished alright. The thing that you have to keep in mind that the whole episodic DLC scheme was merely a way to do two things: do the whole episodic release scheme as was done with Doom and Duke Nukem but also allow for people to buy the portions of the game that was more or less flexible. I know that there's this pet peeve now due to DLC and micro transactions to insist on having "a complete game" to be released. So because I'm old and have played the older shooters that this game tries to emulate in every way, namely BUILD engine based games, I understood the whole "Episode 1 is out!" followed with the whole "Episode 2 is coming out and this one is going to be a doozy of a closer!" Go check it out on Steam, it's fun.https://store.steampowered.com/app/3918090/CULTIC_Chapter_Two/
>>736277223i was a little too young around that time but I knowit's just hard to keep track of all the games coming out and in development to know when something is actually done and things can fly completely under my radar, the other extreme is much like you're watching a series and it's really good and then they never finished it.Much like this game, I just assume most boomershooters have three episodes in the complete game. But now apparently it's just two. Grind my gears lmao.
>>736276973What is this? Some kind of weird porno photoshopping or what?I wanted to add one other disclaimer to >>736276879What you have to do is keep in mind that there is a stark feeling to the game between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. Do not get cocky with the difficulty scheme and try to have at least one weapon maxed out and really - and I mean this because this is important - look for weapon parts upgrades in the hidden spots of a map. In chapter 2 it will come in handy. Also keep in mind that there are some jump scares that you'll see coming for a mile (if you're used to scary video games you'll see this very far away). So Chapter 2 is more on being the "FPS survival horror" game that Cultic proports to setting off to being than in Chapter 1 where it was just coming off as your typical "spooky Unity engine game."
