I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason exclusive upgrades exist in 4make is because the original had it despite that guy that worked on village, 4make, and requiem fucking hated putting them in.
That fucker hates the idea of a starter weapon being useful to the end or serving a specific niche. When "exclusive upgrades" were added to village with the DLC, they were borderline worthless debug cheats you had to activate in the menu like slapping health regeneration on the LEMI, or making the weapons you were going to use anyway because of the dogshit weapon balancing even stronger.
