I mostly played underworld II without realising it was an ultima game and VII but only after I stopped being terrified of the Guardian because he would fucking pop my speakers every time he spoke and I was 7. But I was also scared shitless of doom so take that for what it is.

I think part of it is he never really did much to cultivate or foster a public image like say, Garriot craved and did.
