What happened here?>characters are slightly worse>plot is slightly less interesting>puzzles are a tad less worse>location is a bit less memorable>story is slightly less engaging>mechanics are slightly less reasonableIt feels like they went form a solid game with 999 and took every aspect of it down in quality a little bit.Like it's not awful but everything just screams "the concepts we had laying around after the last game".
>>736280542>puzzles are a tad less worseI meant "a tad worse".
>>736280542>Characters are significantly better>Plot is much more interesting>Puzzles are infinitely better, it's not even comparable>Location is less memorable but individual rooms are much more memorable>Story starts out slower but gets a lot more engaging eventuallyFTFY.Not sure whether you are talking about gameplay mechanics or story mechanics; VLR definitely wins on the game side (flowchart vs. having to do the exact same puzzles half a dozen times); on the story side, both are about equally unreasonable but at least VLR is upfront about it.
The best puzzle game ever made. Yeah, 999 has a better story but it was way too easy. VLR is midwit filter kino.
>>736280542Oh man, just wait until the 3rd game
>>736280542>puzzles are a tad less worseI don't think you've played either game if you say this. 999 puzzles are the most basic shit, VLR's are a massive improvement.
The only real core issue with it is that the map overlay doesn't have labels and you can't look at it unless Sigma is moving around, meaning you never really internalize where every facility is meaning you feel less connection to the location. If they'd just put some labels on the rooms on the map a lot of the issue people had with the setting would probably go away.
>>736280542999's story, twists and characters were indeed amazing, but most locations are meh and most puzzles were braindead easy (aside from that one fuckin place where you gotta do the whole calculation thing on that one machine in the cargo room , fuck THAT one in particular).I still overall enjoyed VLR more than 999, it felt less tedious and less repetitive too. What sucks ass is that Sigma doesnt actually have a voice at all (then again i can see why it's part of the twist). Both VLR and 999 are masterpieces tho. We dont talk about the 3rd shitty ass game.
this series has one of the worst fanbases I've ever seen
>>736281387shittiest post awardlmao. VLR fucking SUCKED
>>736280542I got really annoyed at how spiteful the cast all is with you. They'd deliberately hold you back from escaping cause you're not a nice person whilst they allow the scumbag characters to run off free.
The third entry gives at least some good laughter.I seriously don't understand what VLR fans expected the series to end with, considering how absolutely retarded VLR got by the end. It was already comical by then.
>>736281387I prefer 999's slightly crazy plot than VLR, which has a lot of crazy plot twists near the end. I do prefer the puzzles though, hard mode is a good inclusion. No real opinion on which game has the better characters except that Clover, my favorite 999 character, doesn't really feel like the same person in VLR.
>>736284372As much as I love VLR, I am firmly of the opinion that it did Clover insanely dirty. What happened to her was borderline bimboification fetish shit, it was like she had undergone a lobotomy between games. I wasn't too bothered by it since she wasn't one of my favorites in 999, but I could fully accept if any Cloverfag hated VLR on principle just based on how she behaves in that game.
>>736280542the writing is weaker but the way the flowchart was integrated into the story is fucking amazing.Sigma and Phi are also a fun duo
>>736280542VLR was kinoZTD ruins the story in restrospect and makes the entire struggle of the characters feel pointless
>>736280542i liked it more, routes were cooler, seeing niggas escape or commit suicide made me go like ayo wtf happened, no such thing in 999 aside from the axe fiasco
