I calmly disagree.
>>736281134Its a masterpiece.
>>736281134But how does it compare to the rest of the Xeno games?
>>736281134another game reviewing better than crimson desert
>>736282087Rent free.
>>736281893It doesn't even have simulated ballistics.
>>736282224Abstraction is just as effective
>>736281991I'd personally say it's entirely alright average playable but nothing outrageously good or bad. Compared to Xenonauts 1 the rotating camera and general mechanics of combat are better and the maps a little more varied (though still far less than the most common mod pack) On the flipside, if you care the ufopedia/lore/data entries actually feel a little weaker, at least for tech/aliens with one caveat: the side stuff like talking about how the alien-supporting humans ended up doing what they do is alright. It all feels a little less colourful though. The endgame and setpiece missions are okay. They're reasonably well constructed, they aren't particularly challenging compared to any other x-com game I can think of, though on par again with xenonauts. Alien progression feels a little stilted but honestly I think that's just part of the x-com game, if anything the newcoms are the outliers for having relatively stable progression. Custom game is nice to have, it was fun turning every single operative into an alien threat so I spend the entire early game stopping nukes. Don't play rookie even if you're a games journalist. I'm not a "you must play superhuman or you're supergay" guy but it really is too easy.Air combat is entirely unremarkable. Just some minor QoL changes from xeno 1 and nothing stands out from x-com games. As for airfighting Apocalypse was the only one to actually have in-map dogfights anyway and its like me and one other guy here who even played xcom. Overall less depth/chaos than the UFO aftermath/etc games. But better polish. Nothing standout from the old xcoms but also frankly nothing much new. Not really that related to the newcoms at all and of course jagged alliance 2 mogs on everyone even though the only aliens it involves are illegal ruining the glorious kingdom of Arculo god save queen Deiranna. 5/10 it was okay/dogshit. At least tactical shields have better progression now so they don't become dogshit so quick.
>>736281134why is this so dogshit ugly like the first gamethe original xcom had a lot of style and substance to how it looks
>>736281134Why are you shaking then?
>>736281134xenonauts > xcom gamesno need to be upset
>>736283118Amateur project vs real programmers. It's not that hard to understand.
>>736283245>talking about visuals and style>brings up programmers
>>736283118I think its pretty cool and unique.
>>736282772thanks anon, sounds playable enough and i was thinking literally 3 days ago that Xenonauts was fun, too bad #2 is in early access. i won't get my hopes up.
>>736283353Programmers used to do the art while they were building the engine. That's why they were so cohesive despite the primitive visuals.
Recommend me some XCOM like on steam anons, pretty please ? Hidden gems or not.
What is the outlook for modding on this?
>>736284101Pic related>>736284169They will release mod tools after the hotfix patches. It already has an (empty) workshop on Steam. I doubt mod community will be as dedicated as it was with the first game but who knows.
>>736284063XCOM had separate graphics designers and game designers/programmershttps://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/199362-x-com-ufo-defense/creditWith something super small scale like Doom yeah you'd have the programmers doing the art, but any bigger project, even if it was only like a dozen people, would typically have dedicated art guys.

>>736284268Filter it by platform: You'll find that Gollop was the programmer and co-designer and co-drawfag. The other programmer was his brother.
>>736284101you missed out on altas reactor
>>736284268doom had not only one, but two artistson a side note, carmack also had very little input about the gameplay, he was all about autismal programming
>>736284101It has a step learning curve but it's a refreshing approach to the genre.
>>736284474Romero was a programmer too, he made most of the tools they used for Doom.
Trying to get though the first level of long war
I just got into playing the original Xenonauts and it's fun but the UI is a bit small for my 4K monitor, any community patches that rectify this?
>>7362840162's out and done anon if it helps, just went to V1 on the 2nd. Did all its roadmap stuff at least. Sorry to use the shitty journalist meme but: as you liked xenonauts 1 I'm pretty sure you'll like 2.
>>736285412Oh shit with one exception to mention: some people despise the timer on missions which is a significant difference from 1. Some missions have a turn-limit, or start throwing reinforcement waves at you after hitting said turn limit. Not all of them. Some people despise this for forcing their tactical play into disarray or just generally disliking being stuck on a clock, some people don't mind it, but you can turn the rule to + extra turns or just +99 turns which effectively eliminates that. Sorry should have mentioned it as it's a distinct difference between 1 and 2 and only new xcom did something similar.
>>736285412>>736285497yeah it's good timing so i'll prob pick it up with expectations tempered. nice of them to let me skip that time limit if it gets obnoxious, i really didn't care for anything nu-xcom added to the formula.
>>736285236Xenonauts community edition doesn't actually add UI resolution stuff I -think- but it's pretty much the mod everyone recommends for a load of QoL stuff. I know xenophobia sized-up the UI but I'm very unfamiliar with it, that's uh, here. there might be others but its not something I've fiddled with.https://www.nexusmods.com/xenonauts/mods/4https://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/index.php?/topic/11599-what-is-xenonauts-community-edition-how-do-i-get-it/
Why did it take sixteen years to make the same game
>>736281134I'll stick with OXCE
>>736285624gotcha, worst case just pirate it and see what you think. If it helps I rattled my brain and I don't really think there's any nu-com things in there aside from that. It's like xenonauts 1 in just sort of keeping to the original formula.
I remember trying Xeno1 and dropped it cause font was too small but i liked gunshot sound effects they were satisfying, tried to watch xeno2 streams and every weapon sounds like wet fart. Do those people not realize art and sound is very important for turn based tactical games?
>>736283118As usual, /v/ermin looks at a TACTICS game and goes "BUT WOT ABOUT THEM GRAPHICS DOE"You think Nu-xcom is some "golden standard" and would shit yourself on the first mission.
>>736285979I think he means the 1992 Xcom game.
>>736285979>a comparison is made between a new game and an old game, with the old game being held in favor>WELL WHAT ABOUT OTHER NEW GAME THAT SUCKSkeep yourself safe
>>736286012Yes, I am indeed saying that he'd shit himself if he actually played OG xcom then would start shitposting how XCOM 2 is some sort of masterpiece.
>>736286032Again, you enter a thread about a TACTICS GAME to bitch about the graphics. You never actually touched OG XCOM.
If I wanted to play Nu-Xcom, I'd play Depths of Extinction.
>>736281134I don't play video games.

What's the point of having a Xenonauts 2? It looks identical to Xenonauts 1
>>736287656Think about it like in a Director's cute. It's a polished version of the original but yeah it does nothing special compared to it.Mods will make or break this game.

>>736293471For your soldiers? I don't think so.
>>736293881It depends on how good the numbers are. It's doing better than I expected, their publisher seems to be good at marketing.
>>736283118Their art department is obviously underfunded. The male and female models are identical and when you swap between characters it looks hillarious because only the head changes like a cheap hentai game. >>736293471For aliums yes.
>>736294834>ending cinematicYou mean this game is literally unfinished?
>>736294983Content is done, now it's hotfixing and further polishing, maybe fat updates to add stretch goals they didn't meet in the kickstarter. The cinematic is just some wallpapers with thext playing after final mission(s), silly anon.
>>736293881it's some quirk of the universe that there seems to be a constant inability to make a Stargate game. It should be the easiest thing to do
>fans rev up on the main menuHow. I swear I've capped the framerate at the graphic card settings.
>>736294379Starts out fun but then it quickly bloats into insanity. Missions take forever because your clearing out large maps with (literally) one hundred enemies
>>736294379It's extremely good but it is massive. And I mean massive; the creator cannot stop adding content to it and a playthrough is like 80 hours minimum. And it is bloatmaxxed with useless fluff research which you can seriously fuck up yourprogression on if you're not using the mod to examine the tech tree.Hands down the best xcom mod but it has some serious faults.>>736293881X-Division 2 when.

>>736296969There's a wiki for it if you ever get stuck or want more information on something.Have fun. use thermal drones if you're dealing with the chinamen or suffer
>>736297061>use thermal drones if you're dealing with the chinamenThat goes without saying, duh
>>736294379No. Almost all mods for OpenXcom are just content slop made with no regards for quality.
I've been thinking about buying this game for years now. It's only $25 but ugh IDK if I'll even get into it. I loved XCOM 2, and my favorite game of all time is rimworld so it's not like graphics matter.Does this game have an "endless" mode where I can just send my merc units out on missions and control or is there a forced plot/story with a deadline / timed ending? I'd rather the former.
>>736284101Cyberknights: Flashpoint. It's stealth-focused Xcom with freeform movement and cover, and a really good escalation system. Hacking is cool too, uses up fractions of your action points so it actually plays into turns as things are happening. Devs update the game constantly too.
>>736298078It has an optional extended mode which will take longer to complete.Besides that, consider playing OpenXcom if you never played the original or Long War Rebalanced for nuCOM (not regular Long War, get the Rebalanced version)
>>736298078there's an extended mode option for more fighting since you could let UFOs continue to pile on
>>736298308Game looks like dogshit especially the aesthetics.
