>sudden twist as the pov switches to teepo and you have to venture around the land
>you make a short stop at wyndia and think of your dream of becoming famous but need to find ryu and rei first
>you find the genes yourself instead of ryu
>you cross paths with other party members but before ryu does but they don't know you
>eventually you arrive at genmel and come across garr. he gives you the guardian spiel and you're interested
>you go on a pilgrimage to urkan tapa and meet deis at the tower, who spills the beans about the so-called goddess everyone worships
>you hone your skills at urkan tapa in preparation for the future. when garr arrives with ryu in tow, you tell him about the encounter with deis. garr blows you off and they head there anyway
>you go to the tower but ryu goes berserk and turns into kaiser, then flies away
>time skip

sorry to tell you this but puzzle fighter sucks. even the original
>game picks one color (you don't know which) and starves you of crash gems for it
>diamond is forced on you. no way to avoid activating its effect, so your chains get fucked unless you leave an empty column
>defending side has a ~50% attack penalty. this strongly favors huge attacks and fucks over skilled players who can chain (your 80 garbage chain suddenly turns into 30 counter gems after offsetting a 25 gem attack)
>once your opponent's counter gems fall, he gets to counterattack for free, leading to gay unstoppable comebacks (no matter how quick you are or how many times you attack, they can just bury crash gems in anticipation to ensure survival)
>lategame is just a back and forth with little puzzling involved until the timer expires and offsetting is disabled, leading to one-shots
Y mode is fun and shit, but any attacks that leave your opponent almost dead without finishing the job are a guaranteed loss (eat a 12-chain of 99+ gems)
Z mode had potential but the controls are downright retarded (impossible to tell whether A swaps gems vertically or horizontally around a power gem)
