Why does it get so much hate when it was universally loved and praised as one of the best FPS games ever made in the 2000s?

>>736286550Doom 3 was praised on a technical level, graphics, shadows, animation etc. where great for the time but now arnt as impressive. The presentation and atmosphere is still rock solid and stencil shadows will always feel like magic but once you look past it and focus on purely the gameplay its a bit lacking.

I liked it a lot. I don't mind monster closets, the game was also pretty spooky when I was younger.
It's better than Eternal and Dark Ages which are a Quake 3 clone and parry slop respectively.

Because the "praise" came from dudebros and normalfags who never played doom before.
