the default is the design they concepted and iterated on repeatedly to get the "best" possible design, for what they wanted to achieve with that character, so i think it's normal.

No? Default color is their canon scheme. All other color schemes is for multiplayer convenience.

I ever so slightly lose some opinion of you. Everyone eventually settles on "their" color that isn't just default P1 and P2. If you use one of those, I can't help but feel that you're a tourist.
