And then finally there was Rogue Core, which has a lot of the shit people were asking to finally complete out DRG, and is instead going to be a completely separate game. As someone who thinks they're a bit boring, I think it's because dwarves are only ever really used as jokes or filler to pretend a fantasy story is interesting. The only time they're ever really mentioned is when people are just spouting memes about the concept of dwarves overall. Elves, beastmen, monster girls or whatever other fantasy race are like that most of the time, but they also get enough serious roles in many things.Obviously there are example of individual dwarves who are cool and interesting characters too, but there's not that many stories focusing on Dwarven culture or compelling Dwarven characters specifically. People usually only add them when they need blacksmiths or something and it's always the same generic portrayal.Maybe this isn't actually aproblem in wrpgs though, I don't play those much.

Truthfully, though, the more common thing to do as of late has been to just straight up pretend dwarves don't even exist. BG3 is without a doubt the most high profile/popular piece of D&D media in literal decades, but it doesn't have a single dwarf companion (despite them having been a foundational race of the franchise) and every dwarf NPC who shows up is basically treated as just a short/stocky human.
