What are the things you like and hate the most about Owlcat's CRPGs?
>>736293914I hate how needlessly wordy Owlcat's dialogue can be, even by CRPG standards.
>>736293914>like The cuckoldry>hateThe non-cuckoldry
>>736293914the garbage tier mini-gamesfuck kingdom managment and fuck crusades
>>736293914It's the exact same thing which is the writing.Owlcat's writing is very amateurish which actually lends itself well to the Pathfinder games because it manages to recreate the feeling of playing a real D&D campaign with your friends where the DM has some great sessions but also pet DMPCs, obvious nerd shit like Arueshalae and the tone flipping like a switch
>>736294226the pseuds love it though. More words = deeper writing for those retards.
>Annoying, unthematic and purposeless RPG tropes like looting literally everything>Constant and long loading screens, especially annoying in kingdom management/crusade mode>Games becoming facerollable with one tactic before long even on Unfair (while in Pathfinder Unfair early game requires extremely specific powergaming setups)>Systems (Pathfinder especially) generally lacking even the potential for meaningful tactical depth, while the crunch and inadequacy of simulation hinders rather than supports emergent storytelling and RP>Extreme reliance on prebuffing in Pathfinder, extreme reliance on turn economy in Rogue Trader>Besides these shortcomings in the fundamental systems, Pathfinder in particular is also poorly implemented in many ways, like wordswordswords descriptions on abilities detailing fluff that isn't relevant in the game, or broken stacking rules>and so onYet, somehow they manage to be the most decent games in their genre. Systems-wise Pathfinder 1e at least has crunch going for it (which cannot be said about e.g. AD&D which is bad in all the same ways but isn't as fun to powergame), WotR in particular is extremely replayable, they generally play smoothly both in TB and RTwP, have decent UIs, above-average writing (in terms of "how well it serves the game", not necessarily in terms of e.g. the quality of the prose or keeping you at the edge of the seat for story developments), good atmosphere, etc, etc.
>>736294989>obvious nerd shit like ArueshalaeInsane how it's been 26 years since the Aerie archetype came out and it still makes people mad
>>736293914>likeEpic CRPG gaymeplay>dislikeWriting is kinda shitNothing they make will ever narratively beat picrel kino
>>736293914>What are the things you likeI like when Camellia is present.>and hateI hate when Camellia is not present.
>>736293914there is nothing to like about them
>>736293914>likeThe kits>hateEverything else. The games are all mean-spirited Leftist showcases of the devs' degenterste fetishes and they're all disgusting.
>>736295235As a NTR enjoyer, I agree with this.
>>736293914Reddit written characters and dialogs. Lack of actual serious prose and narration like in Planescape torment or Disco Elysium that treat its setting seriously
>>736295382But Pathfinder isn't a serious setting
>>736295382>reddit charactersKingmaker characters were all incredibly grounded, with Tristan being the only oddball
>>736295114Aerie is far better written than Arue who is supposed to be a 500 year old demon spy
>>736295474>being grounded means you're not reddit>fucking implying that Tristian is the only characterl like that anywayIf Tristian is an oddball, what does that make the chosen one of Urgathoa/Pharasma? The twins that made a deal with Nethys' herald? The dwarf that has special snowflake powers courtesy of Torag?
I've only played BG3 of their gamesI liked the story stuff.I thought the combat was boring, but I guess that's just how DND is. Not very tactical.
>>736295450Neither is Planescape
>>736295503>who is supposed to be a 500 year old demon spyIrrelevant and age for a demon is relative, this is addressed in-game. It just bothers you because she's cute and not a confrontational cunt, I know how you work
>>736295978>this is addressed in-gameNo it really isn't
>>736295978Regill has more writing dedicated to staring at you like a piece of meat than Arueshalae who is supposed to be constantly fighting temptation does
>>736296053It is, in banter with Sosiel. And I told you before (when you didn't reply) that she's extremely insecure, of course she's going to be bad at something if you convince yourself that you can't do it
>>736293914>consistently fumble the last act and a half, because scope creep and poor planning>the game is effectively unplayable for the first 6 months because of the multitude of bugs>despite having stellar character writing, they insist on adding characters that are written in a way that no one would like (Jae, Nenio, Sosiel etc)>a minor issue, but some of the character writing is weird and questionable (Like Yrliet's interactions counting as romance, locking you out of actual romances)>they have never made a non-exploitable combat system, where they bloat the enemy stats to compensate, pushing the players into the exploitable builds (can be countered by lowering the difficulty but still)>insistence on adding gimmicky side game modes like crusade management and spaceship combat that take away resources from the main gameplay loop (although they get better and better at this)Those are the important things that come to mind
>>736296185>Regill has more writing dedicated to staring at you like a piece of meatCan you name name some examples? At least five
>chars are hit&miss, you tend to like them or want to airlock them>levels/maps are somewhat empty and boring>build autism options that keep loons like me replaying is drying up since WotR>some writers there seem to enjoying pissing fans off more than sales
>>736293914>likeextremely deep character buildingsolid game mechanicswell-written characters (e.g. Pasqal)>dislikestat bloat and buffing (Pathfinder only)poorly-written characters (e.g. Nenio)
>>736296371The constant text descriptions of Regill staring at you with his calculating yellow eyes?
>>736296329>unplayable for the first 6 monthsTry however long its been since WotR came out until now, shit like hagriven claws are still brokenrogue trader is the only time the combat wasnt complete shit but then they cock up so many other things its still not worth playing, atleast not until they bring out the last dlcI just want a crpg with my stupid cutesy romance AND good combat
>>736296525>Regill looks at you coldly because he's one step away from being a robot>That means he really wants to fuck you and rape you to death
>>736296568I said he looks at you like a piece of meat, not that he wants to fuck you lolArue is supposed to be a vicious predator but you would be forgiven for forgetting this about her character. The game certainly does.
>>736296793What do you think succubi do to kill their victims...? >The game certainly doesThe game remembers it more than enough times, especially for someone that has gone out of her way to not act like that for several decades. Again, it just bothers you because she's not a cunt
>>736296845Why would it bother me that she's nice? It bothers me that she's the definition of tell don't show. You are told that she's struggling with her nature, you are never really shown this in the game.
>>736294226I wonder if it flows better in russian since they have to write in russian first.
>>736297110>when you first pick demon at the end of act 2>at Greengates, where she manipulates you knowing full well that she shouldn't be doing that>when Targona accuses her of being one of the demons that worked with Areelu>during Areelu's lab when you see your companions' fantasies>when Zanedra and the evil aasimar piss her off, both times Daeran goads her in >when she instinctively kneels in front of Nocticula>when Hepzamirah pisses her off>when she almost kneels against Baphomet but just barely manages to resist>when she spergs out at Xorges for being a qlippothAnd those are the ones I can remember, I wouldn't be surprised if there was more. No, she does it enough times, again, it just bothers you because she's normally nice and isn't in 24/7 cunt mode. I'm also going to ignore how her struggle with not wanting to rape someone to death is emphasized in her romance, not her regular questline
Just stop putting cuckshit into games
>>736293914I hate the gayass companions.
>>736293914>thanks to one choice you made 40 hours ago one of your companions is going to murder your favorite companion and then fucks offAt least make it a boss fight, you fucks.
>>736297640>No, she does it enough timesI disagreeYou have a strange hyper fixation on thinking my problem with her is she is too nice, something I don't care aboutThe Hepzamirah and Areelu lab scenes are good since you finally get to see first hand what she's struggling with, the game definitely needed more of that. Instead of it being two good scenes spread out over 100+ hours.
>>736293914i like the personalization, especially when you first create a character i hate the writing stupid faggots cannot create a single cute girl to save their miserable lives
>>736298621>twoI just named tenAnd as you were told before, Arueshalae started her redemption decades ago, so there's no reason for her to act like that always when she has obviously learned to restrain herself to an extent. And it only truly becomes a problem for her if you romance her
like the gameshate the fanbasesimple as'
>>736297163Do they though? Most of these games made for the mass-market are written in English straight up even by non-native English devs.
>dislikeAll of their games offer a series of disconnected, tiny linear maps with no content beyond the shallow, one-note combat, and as if that wasn't bad enough, all of their games are also poorly written, bloated, slow paced and extremely dull to look at.>likeSome of the music is ok I guess.
>>736298956>I just named tenI thought most of those examples weren't good at showing her spiritual struggle.>Arueshalae started her redemption decades ago, so there's no reason for her to act like that always when she has obviously learned to restrain herself to an extentProbably not a good idea to write a character that has already figured out their problems before the game started then
>>736299274>Probably not a good idea to write a character that has already figured out their problems before the game started then
>>736293914I like their style of writing/storytelling.I hate their mini games (Except for ship battles in RT, those were fine.)
